It’s not clear what the customer said, it’s presumed she misgenders the employee as he calls her transphobic. He calls her Karen and then either grabs the phone or the person who’s filming.

It’s pretty hilarious that the manager RAN AWAY from his own workplace. He obviously realised he had royally fucked up. I imagine getting a new job will be quite tricky now that so many people have seen him providing appalling service, engaging in vandalism of the workplace and assaulting customers. I’d love to think he’ll reflect on his behaviour and learn something but we all know he won’t.

I must say I feel a bit sorry for his Mum. I’d be absolutely mortified if my son turned into this sort of man.

WallaceinAnderland · 10/05/2023 19:02

Interviewer - So tell me Tall person, why did you leave your last job?

Tall person - I'll get my coat

I do seriously want to feel sorry for this person as it was obviously a totally shit day at work and I can't imagine the feeling on getting home and the reality of the situation really sinking in. But I am struggling to justify why I feel any compassion for someone who had such an aggressive, entitled attitude.

With proper customer service training this could have been de-escalated pretty quickly. Maybe if Starbucks really are LGBTQ+ supporters they should include some misgendering role play in their training to help their staff deal with it in an appropriate and, most importantly, legal manner?

Helleofabore · 10/05/2023 19:02

I don’t think we have to imagine how his mum feels. I suspect she knows this side of her child’s personality rather well if mum is in their life.

"I'm talking to this lady..."
"Actually I identify as x."

Woman would likely have apologised and moved on.

Although if someone is so dependent on others not going by their own perceptions but correctly using your personal chosen language that they will become unhinged if a mistake is made?

Either some kind of large badge or t shirt is needed, or serious consideration needs to be given as to whether a customer facing role where you're constantly meeting busy strangers is the best job for you.

Well played to Starbucks if it’s true they’ve dismissed him

they smashed a glass door in their temper tantrum, then left the premises. I don't imagine it was a decision the owner of the franchise agonised over.

Shelefttheweb · 10/05/2023 19:31

"I'm talking to this lady..."
"Actually I identify as x."

”I'm talking to this lady..."
”I’m the manager, can I help?”

How you or anyone else identifies is irrelevant.

I don’t. That clapping in the woman’s face was aggressive and appalling.

Yes I think that was the worst bit of it. It must have been very intimidating. Hearing him call her a Karen made my blood boil. Apparent from being misogynistic, it was a pathetic attempt to silence her as he had very little argument to back himself up. It’s funny how TRAs love misogynistic comments.

Am I the only one who is shocked at ten quid (TEN QUID!) for a cup of coffee?

Not just any coffee - undrinkable muck?

I think it was two cups and a cake. But they don’t want common riff raff with their unwashed I woke views anyway so if price excludes those who slip through the card only payment policy then that is a good thing…

Shelefttheweb · 10/05/2023 21:05

*unwoke

DrBlackbird · 10/05/2023 21:22

there's a very real possibility that the trans movement is going to result in a significant social push back on gay and lesbian people and rights

This my worry for dearly beloved family members. The "no LGB without the T" is clearly leading to backlash against all in the US. A dreadfully worrying time and real possibilities of gay right’s being rolled back by conservative Republicans in no small way to the increasingly aggressive demands of TRAs.

nilsmousehammer · 10/05/2023 21:28

Yes. And also the aggressive pushing that kink/depravity/total lack of boundaries/lets involve kids is a normal part of LGBT and must be accepted as such. LGB people spent bloody decades trying to get the general public to accept that they had the same sexual appropriacy and safety as hetero people.

All I can do as a homosexual is repeatedly state (at this point in my sleep) that when you see the acronym LGBT+ it now means 'people of any and all sexualities whose one thing in common is supporting gender ideology' and NOT 'diverse people of all faiths, beliefs, cultures and politics who happen to have homosexuality in common'. It's a political group label, not an LGB classification.

I don't think it will escape doing the damage though. Women's rights and child safeguarding are also casualties of this spectacularly selfish movement.

The nearest branch to me has a pin pad lock on the loo to stop homeless people from using it. It's signed as a wheelchair accessible toilet but the pin pad is too high to be reached from a wheelchair.

I buy my coffee elsewhere. Even if their coffee didn't taste like it's been burned to cinders, I'd buy my coffee elsewhere.

It's still undrinkable muck, though.

Fuck me, is this evidence of balanced reporting from Penis News? Because I was fully expecting a “Trans person cruelly treated by evil conglomerate” type thing.

Starbucks sacks trans worker who accused customer of transphobia

A trans barista who accused a customer of being transphobic and misgendering her has been fired from a Starbucks in Southampton, Hampshire.

Definitely this as well. I see it with my own DC/DCs friends whereby furries, choking, fetishes of all and sundry have been very successfully packaged and sold as part a general LGB ‘progressive’ acceptance. They’re all scared of saying that ‘x is not acceptable’ for fear of then being labelled as conservative.

DrBlackbird · 10/05/2023 22:19

Actually, more worrying is that they genuinely believe that these are a ‘normal’ part of expressing sexuality/sexual preferences. It’s mostly young women I really despair for.

They seem to be trying to minimise it, and then it ends with a completely unrelated sentence about a lesbian couple in Miami being subjected to a homophobic rant by a stranger. Confused

Penis News don't "seem to be trying" to minimise it, they are minimising it. They omitted the physical assault and attempted phone theft against the filming man, the theft of the woman's money through refusal to issue a refund, and the smashed glass door. Claiming that the manager tried to stop the filming makes it seem like he asked the man to stop or maybe put his hand in front of the lens, not that the manager tried to wrest the phone from the man's grip.

The non sequitur about the lesbian couple is forced teaming. It makes a false analogy between someone who might have been unintentionally misgendered and someone who was deliberately accused of paedophilia, in the hope that the reader will be as outraged for the trans person as for the lesbians. It's as transparently obvious and laughable as when my cat turns his back and pretends that he didn't want a stroke after all when I ignore him during a Teams meeting.

And hence pretends that lesbians and trans people somehow share oppression and should stick together against the dreaded cishets.

Right, so if some loon starts aggressively ranting at a woman, she’s not allowed to talk back assertively, or she’s as bad as him? Roger that - let’s all just do whatever shouty men demand. Mustn’t stick up for ourselves- so unfeminine.

Both parties in any exchange have a responsibility regarding communication. You're trying to argue that the only way to deal with conflict is to shout, and it isn't.

So what was she supposed to do, with a grown man shouting slurs like "Karen" amd "transphobic" at her? Simper and say "pretty please"? Do you think that would have actually calmed him down, given that he assaulted a man and broke a glass door? This is the same "logic" that has women blamed for their husbands battering them.

It's very clear that you are a misogynist who knows exactly who the woman in that video clip is and who the man is, because you know who to hold to the far-higher standard of verbal behaviour and whose physically-violent behaviour to not even mention.
