It’s not clear what the customer said, it’s presumed she misgenders the employee as he calls her transphobic. He calls her Karen and then either grabs the phone or the person who’s filming.

Notice the TikTok video, our recently sacked friend is already acting out fantasies of situations involving angry response to so-called misgendering.

Talk about being primed and ready to blow.

TheaBrandt · 08/05/2023 20:24

Anecdotally my teen Dd works in a similar coffee / cafe albeit independent one the worst customers are much older couples. “Mum age” women are the nicest.

Here's a police officer who had no compunction in reporting a young man on the autistic spectrum for hurtful comments. Not quite the same as physical retaliation but this will also have long-lasting effects on the young man's future. One wonders how a police officer as thin-skinned as this copes with the rigours of police work. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/uk-news/duty-transgender-police-officer-left-17652064

How can someone so sensitive possibly do their job as a PCSO? In fact, how can they cope with life at all?

Panteranoir · 08/05/2023 20:21

You'd have to have actual shit for brains to believe this utter crap

It's a gendered slur aimed at women.

Even in this one example there is absolutely no evidence that the woman behaved badly. Yet look at the behaviour of the server and your reaction that it must be her fault.

Karen is an extension of female socialisation, nothing more nothing less. It's keeping the boot of misogyny firmly on women's necks. It's aimed at middle aged women not just because they are of less value to society as their perceived attractiveness diminishes but also because that is when a lot of women start finding the strength to stand up to patriarchal bullshit.

You are a misogynist Miajk. You display hateful tendencies towards women. You've already labelled contempt onto the victim in this clip.

I wonder if you excuse racial slurs so freely.

👏👏👏👏

This is excellent

I only see , and hear, one woman. The other is most definitely a male, aka man.

😂

Absolutely everyone involved in persecuting this young man should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, it is disgraceful what happened to him.

gogohmm · 08/05/2023 20:29

This whole debacle is why we should not be using pronouns when possible, I have a name, avoids the need to gender me (I'm obviously a woman by the way but I hate having to have a title I'm just me!)

I'm trying to find a reason why i would need to use a pronoun buying a coffee! Please and thank you is not gendered. Do we know what preceded the outburst?

Think I'll start a one woman campaign to avoid them, so much easier than the politics of gender

Emotionalsupportviper · 08/05/2023 20:29

Kendodd · 08/05/2023 20:05

If only it was sarcasm!
As I understand it misgendering somebody is a hate crime (am I correct?) if that's what this women did and I complaint was made about her, I have little doubt the police would investigate her. The trans woman would be seen as the victim in this. I wish I was wrong.

As I understand it it's "non-crime" "hate" behaviour or something equally stupid.

Either way it is NOT illegal but is one of those things an over-zealous police force delights in.

Here’s another bonkers pcso. You’d have thought there was a higher threshold for getting hired by a police force, https://thelincolnite.co.uk/2021/07/ex-lincoln-police-worker-jailed-for-two-years-over-explosives-and-guns/

Ex Lincoln police worker jailed for two years over explosives and guns

She had a haul of explosives, chemicals, and weapons

Haven’t watched the video yet, can imagine it’s as fucking rage inducing as I think. You might want to search on Twitter for Rupert Myers’ past just fyi.

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 08/05/2023 20:45

Good. I normally stand up for the worker, knowing how vile the general public can be but this time the worker is well and truly out of order and clearly has a massive chip on their shoulder

Hoardasurass · 08/05/2023 11:55

He should be arrested for assault and breach of the peace also potentially theft as he refused to refund the female customers money after refusing to provide the goods she paid for.
If I didn't already boycott Starbucks due to their tra policies I certainly would after that

what does TRA mean in this context?

nilsmousehammer · 08/05/2023 20:00

The pattern of the defense of these behaviours are depressingly familiar.

  • Use name calling to identify the dehumanised group
  • Violence is acceptable if it's against the dehumanised

A whole lot of dysfunctional thinking in defense of dysfunctional behaviours. If this is 'the right side of history' then count me on the wrong side, and I'll be there with the basically civilised who believe no matter how vile you may think someone is, you don't get to behave like an animal.

@nilsmousehammer totally agree.

It’s quite disturbing how every time the Karen slur is discussed people justify why it’s deserved by those who behave ‘like Karens’ or the other justification that the slur came from the phenomenon of entitled white ‘Karens’ in the US - therefore using the insult is virtuous, almost like fighting racism …..

Only that is only one theory. None of the women in those stories was called Karen. The one in Central Park who called the police was called Amy I think. It’s just as likely that the Karen thing started with the thread on Reddit: Karen took the kids/Fuck you Karen/r. Supposedly by a disgruntled divorced dad claiming ex took him to the cleaners - but turned out to be written by a teenaged boy

Sadly I suspect it's a franchise and the fact that he feels entitled to behave like this, and has a history of throwing people out from the reviews, suggests he is possible the franchise holder or manager so there may not be much Starbucks UK can do to sanction him.

It is a franchise, but I've never seen this person serving before - I'm pretty sure he's not the owner.

BeverlyHa · 08/05/2023 20:53

do not want to watch it. brats all over this place

RealityFan · 08/05/2023 21:02

Not only are we expected to somehow ignore millions of years of human evolution where our ability to detect the sexes, and especially the opposite sex, is integral.

But we're also now meant to seamlessly ID someone not as the opposite sex, but no sex at all ie NB.

All in the space of mere split seconds if you put the span of human existence on a 24 hour clock.

Of course our friend here has no problem locating millions of years of human evolution in unrestrained violence, and violence on women.

THAT'S totally consistent with our existence as humans. What's not consistent is the demand to ignore biology and evolution.

FrostyFifi · 08/05/2023 21:11

I really hope the poor woman is okay. She certainly stood up for herself but most people would be shaken after something like that. Poor thing just going in to get a coffee and then that happens to her.

Here's a post by a Tweeter connecting the ex-Starbucks TRA barista with this person.

https://twitter.com/MalesInDisguise/status/1655599457797390337

Turn the sound on - voice is male.

And at the end, he points to his earrings and his eye make up, to show that he is not a man.

Well, I don't wear earrings or make up, so maybe I am not a woman, and didn't know it ...

Gosh, that’s a lot of self absorption in one TikTok video.

And I’m not wearing make up or earrings today, do I have to hand in my ovaries now?

Two women having a misunderstanding

How dismissive of the abuse of the woman who was the customer! Do you dismiss abuse against women by male people often?

Yeah, I did a decade of retail/catering jobs, as a student, and now I'm an HCP, so 30 years in public-facing roles. Middle aged and older people are generally much more pleasant than younger (though with individual exceptions, of course). This has been true for the 3 decades of my career, so I don't think it's a Millennial/Gen Z thing - each generation mellows as it ages. Confidence with age also helps - I think younger people often come across as rude when they are actually nervous.

I have been assaulted by men and women but never by a woman over 40 (except very old ladies with dementia who didn't know what they were doing).

Well, that seems a very self satisfied male who feels completely justified in abusing women.

I see them both as women. I don't know what the argument was about.
