Meanwhile, a Boyle on the backside of humanity can make nasty jokes about rape, mock disabled people and swipe at talented sportswomen he finds unattractive (i.e. Becky Adlington) … yet somehow he’s a darling of the left. Make it make sense

It makes perfect sense once you acknowledge that the left has a woman problem.

Women who don't centre men are not welcome in left leaning politics.

The Labour Party told women who do not centre men that they don't want their membership.

They have allowed dreadful bullying of Rosie Duffield and allowed Lloyd Russel -Moyle to behave terribly in the HoC.

SinnerBoy · 04/05/2023 10:19

Chiselled Greek go Frankie Boyle says that Rebecca Adlington isn't very attractive. I see.

Datun · 04/05/2023 10:33

WeeBisom · 04/05/2023 09:11

Wow there’s a lot of trans activists online who don’t seem to realise that gender critical beliefs are a protected characteristic in the equality act.

Echo Chamber Land, I'm guessing. and an unhealthy reliance on misinformation.

It will probably take more court cases for it to sink in.

It's always the handsome ones isn't it?

Of course Boyle is a beautiful male specimen. (Swoon!)

His joke about Rebecca was beyond creepy - not only insulting her appearance, but then giving a theory on why she had a good-looking boyfriend. Basically, he said she must be really dirty because of how long she can hold her breath underwater. He has never backed down from this nasty, unnecessary joke about a young woman who at the time was only about 19.

SinnerBoy · 04/05/2023 12:36

Greek god dash it all!

Well yes, they want us to be useful idiots. No more no less.

I am puzzled that staff refusal to work leads to the event being cancelled rather than the staff being replaced, is this the tail wagging the dog?

Quite. I am vegetarian but if I were a waitress and refused to serve meat dishes to customers I’d expect to be out on my arse.

Employers cannot be expected to allow each staff to ‘stand on principle’ for each of their individual principles.

And the self indulgence of expecting your employer to take the hit for your principles! It is for the staff to take the sacrifice by resigning from their job if they feel that strongly!

Honestly, this really shows an extraordinary entitled self-indulgence! Leave your job if you feel that strongly! Have genuine courage of your convictions!

Jo Cherry has sent a solicitors letter

twitter.com/joannaccherry/status/1655610903922892801?s=20

https://twitter.com/joannaccherry/status/1655610913842507783?s=20

The letter seems more than fair to me. There seems to be a bit missing at the end of the 2nd page. I hope that's just an error from it being copied onto twitter. Anyway 🍿

It was a good call to take time to build up a watertight case also maximises the embarrassment and media coverage against those against women having opinions when they lose another censorship attempt. The Stand have no legal case, their cancelation wording was dumb, they were relying on Cherry being too nice to sue, as daft a move as picking on JKR or Julie Bindel. I think they are almost certainly going to cave before it goes further.

Cherry is a real hero for taking this discrimination on directly once again.

FisherthemsFriend · 08/05/2023 23:55

I’m reminded of the Malcolm Tucker question “Are you SO dense?” Did they really think they could get away with doing this to a KC of all people?

SammyScrounge · 09/05/2023 00:54

CremeEggQueen · 02/05/2023 00:15

But they did give her a platform and then cancelled it
Then cancelled as staff didnt want to associate with it presumably as they didnt agree.
Which is their right to. They don't owe her one.

But they do owe their employers compliance and they do owe obedience to the law on protected characteristics

.

dunBle · 09/05/2023 07:59

I am going to absolutely piss myself laughing if they do make the mistake of trying to fight this, and she gets awarded damages and then donates them to the LGBA.

LizzieSiddal · 09/05/2023 08:51

Good for Joanna. Whatever happens now there will be a huge amount of publicity and people will become aware that this behaviour is against the law. Suck it up TRAs!!

dunBle · 09/05/2023 07:59

I am going to absolutely piss myself laughing if they do make the mistake of trying to fight this, and she gets awarded damages and then donates them to the LGBA.

They would be very stupid to do that. I imagine they will now consult lawyers, who will tell them that they don't have a leg to stand on and the best thing is to settle. After all, Cherry has very generously said she doesn't want money, simply an apology and a reinstatement of the original offer to be interviewed at the venue as part of a programme of interviews with politicians.

The only way they could justify fighting it would be to argue that Cherry really is transphobic, and they have evidence to prove it. Well, good luck with that, matey.

Shelefttheweb · 09/05/2023 09:16

The only way they could justify fighting it would be to argue that Cherry really is transphobic, and they have evidence to prove it.

It would need to be more than that. The Stand already hosts acts who are racist, disabilist, sexist etc.

ArabeIIaScott · 09/05/2023 09:17

Would be a really interesting court case, that's for sure. Although probably a quite short one.

Datun · 09/05/2023 09:29

If she's asking for them to reinstate her slot, it will be interesting to see if suddenly all their staff walk out.

And they have to hire new, not bigoted, staff.

lifeinthelastlane · 09/05/2023 09:33

They are discussing this on radio Scotland just now. Arguments on Cherry's side seem stronger so far.

Yes, there's plenty of time yet.

They just need to advertise and make it clear that staff who are unwilling to work when their views are not in 100% accordance with all potential performers.

Perhaps potential staff need to start flagging on their CVs which beliefs they refuse to work with?

'Will not serve beer to x people'
'Will not tear tickets of x people'
'Will not show x people to their seats'

(Substitute 'x' for beliefs of your choice.)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/05/2023 16:37

They seem to have climbed down on legal advice. https://twitter.com/StandComedyClub/status/1657038933748862979?s=20

Well that is deeply pleasing! The legal letter to Joanna Cherry's legal team is worth a read too:
