That statement is brilliant. They ACCEPT discrimination has occurred. No weasely words!

So all of those on this thread and elsewhere who have denied that this is discrimination are wrong.

Good news.

Toomuchtea · 12/05/2023 16:55

Dropping The Stand's previous solicitors well and truly in it, I see, who apparently told them what they were doing was legal.

I hope someone has now provided them with a copy of the EA.

CriticalCondition · 12/05/2023 17:12

That is a stonkingly good letter. A complete and gracious admission they got it utterly wrong and how they'll put it right. An account of how it happened, not to excuse but to explain. A great example of how to act like grown ups. Starbucks could take a lesson or two from this.

PSNonsense · 12/05/2023 17:18

Excellent! Can't wait to buy a ticket.

If she's asking for them to reinstate her slot, it will be interesting to see if suddenly all their staff walk out.

And they have to hire new, not bigoted, staff.

Job descriptions are going to have to be updated as posts are advertised: 'as part of our duty of inclusion and tolerance, you will be expected to work during events/activities that may not fit with your personal preferences and views.'

Establish at interview: if you can't do that, it's not the job for you.

dropthevipers · 12/05/2023 17:28

Does this mean the current crop of toddlers employed there have flounced out?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/05/2023 17:30

Interesting letter. Presumably their previous solicitors are Stonewall captured lawyers, insisting that the laws should be what they wish it to be rather than what it actually says.

Signalbox · 12/05/2023 17:32

Trans activists already on Twitter saying Jo Cherry has bullied the Stand and it’s staff by threatening them with legal action.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/05/2023 17:33

Nice they're donating to a charity I can get behind too, rather than a Stonewall 'fuck you'.

Signalbox · 12/05/2023 17:34

I bet this event will get a mass protest now. Door blocking maybe? Threats of violence to the venue? They’ll get it cancelled one way or another.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/05/2023 17:54

Oh yes, the twat signals gone out. I doubt it'll go off peacefully.

Signalbox · 12/05/2023 18:08

Didn't take long for the death threats to start rolling in...

But they did give her a platform and then cancelled it
Then cancelled as staff didnt want to associate with it presumably as they didnt agree.
Which is their right to. They don't owe her one.

Er, they are under a contract of employment!

Don't upset me by reacting when I abuse you!

This lot will believe that they're standing up for righteousness, they'll compare this to racism. And be absolutely blind to the fact that the prejudice and hate is entirely on their own side, and they are acting exactly like the abusers they claim to reject.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/05/2023 18:42

People are waiting for Stephen Whittle and the phantom bundle maker to explain how The Stand has come to a totally different conclusion to their legal analysis over the last few days. There are a few people pointing this development out to them on Twitter.

I bet they are. Chickens coming home to roost for Stonewall & their array of "legal advisers" 😁

What I find odd is that her fellow cult member and owner of The Stand, Tommy Sheppard has had nothing to say about this and Cherry has made no comment about Sheppard's role in this.

The fact that Cherry can't bring herself to make any criticism of Sheppard makes me think Cherry isn't as bright or as independently minded as she'd like us to think she is.

I disagree with Joanna Cherry on pretty much everything other than woman’s rights. But even there I think she would throw us under the bus if offered independence. She disagreed with the UK governments s35 stop on the GRR bill.

Sometimes someone who is not you will do or say things different from what you yourself would have done or said. Getting over that and accepting it is a basic building block or maturity/adulthood.

As is understanding that people are free to criticise them for those things they do or say.

nilsmousehammer · 14/05/2023 09:27

She has not denounced! Call forth the witch pricker!

SinnerBoy · 14/05/2023 10:20

Should we have a list of people for her to denounce? How long would it take, assuming that she denounces seven hours a day, Monday to Friday?

You don’t think she should called out MSPs in her own party for their discriminatory behaviour? What about fraudulent behaviour? What other aspects of party behaviour is it ok for her to ignore in order to pursue independence? How many laws should members of the Scottish Parliament be allowed to break before someone from their own party should hold them to account? Given there is now a fraud investigation going on at the top of the SNP, is it ok the party members didn’t ask questions?

Well she could start with one person who is top of the list for causing this fiasco. the founder of and co- owner of The Stand and her fellow SNP Westminster MP- for an Edinburgh constituency.

Cherry is as happy as any other SNP MP or MSP to turn a blind eye and toe the party line that asking questions is treachery.

Oh don't be ridiculous. Her silence on this bizarre given it was her own poisonous party who caused this situation. The club is owned by an SNP MSP. I don't believe for 1 second that if it had been owned by a Labour party member Cherry wouldn't have "denounced" them.
