I take total offence at the use of "queer" people dying of AIDS mentioned in the MAC ad.
At the time "queer" was a slur. Nowadays it includes a healthy dose of straight people. Plus the majority of those dying awful deaths were gay men.
Now while this whole trans movement specifically states that trans women are women, that means DM is a woman. I have no idea if DM is supposed to be a straight woman or a lesbian - according to DM and DM's supporters' own definition, definitely not according to heterosexual or homosexual - but DM is DEFINITELY not supposed to be a gay man.
As DM's target audience is young women - because Maybelline and Mac are not targeting overworked, underpaid, exhausted middle aged mothers, nor are they targeting the vast majority of men of any age - they're essentially rewriting history in this ad. "Queer" =/= gay man to that audience.
It's also hugely disrespectful to all those who suffered under that slur while they and/or their friends were dying. I have close friend who has ONE friend left from that time. All his other friends from then died before they were 35. Queer still isn't a term he can deal with.
