My boycott list is huge.
There are going to be no brands left at this rate.

I'm all up for them using a man to advertise make up. But they need to choose a man who treats his fellow human beings respectfully and Dylan hasn't. Choose a different man. It speaks volumes to choose this one.

Yes, a man - as a man - wearing make up would be absolutely fine.

Honestly, some people just want to hound Dylan across the internet until she disappears. Its disgusting and bullying behaviour.

If you don't like Dylan, fine. Personally, not my cup of tea either and wouldn't have heard of her if not for people complaining.

The vitriol directed at this young person and the global scale of the relentless criticism and bullying is shameful.

HE is a 26 year old MAN, not some vulnerable teenager- and he’s making money by mocking women.

The whole thing is made up- he made a video about how he wasn’t getting any work so a friend wrote a “femme” role for him- and suddenly he was getting attention again. So he’s just carried on doing that. And it’s working like a charm for him, companies are throwing money and freebies at him, so who gives a fuck about the women he’s insulting??

I’d be alright with him disappearing to be honest.

Trying to work out what CEI and CSR mean?

Corporate Equality Index & Corporate Social Responsibility.

It's very much like the stonewall champions. Box ticking to get to the top of the list. Which enables funding etc.

https://www.hrc.org/resources/corporate-equality-index

All these companies are on the HRC list.

The 2022 Corporate Equality Index

The HRC Foundation's CEI celebrates its 20th anniversary of being a primary driving force for LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion.

Do women really do that thing that DM does in the commercial - sort of double fist shake in the air? Looks kind of male behaviour to me.

I do that in a celebratory way? Confused

It's almost like women are not a homogenous group...

The mental stretches are really coming in with this one.

Travellingwillow · 24/04/2023 10:24

There's a video of DM on an old US Price is right....🙄...bonkers. If this is what people want to emulate then we need to be switched off and rebooted.

SkyandSurf · 24/04/2023 10:32

Massive Streisand effect happening here with Dylan.

I'd never heard of this person until people on here started foaming at the mouth.

Seasonofthewitch83 · 24/04/2023 10:41

Oh good, another thread about Dylan. I am sure the marketing departments at the brands are appalled at all the ad revenue you are sending their way by getting angry over someone wearing make up.

Try telling that to Budweiser's $6 billion loss over their misogynistic advertising.

But people are just spending money on the company's other brands? All these dickhead men SHOOTING beer in anger - not sure that is the side I personally want to align my values with anyway.

Hoppinggreen · 24/04/2023 07:57

While I think Mulvany is awful and his parodies of women are repulsive Make is worn by any sex/gender so I don’t have much of an issue with this.
The sports bra thing is very different

I don't care what sex someone is, if they want to wear make up that's fine. However, advertising using a male who is an entirely offensive parody of women? No thanks.

Six billion

ArabeIIaScott · 24/04/2023 11:01

Dylan is 100% better at applying make up than I am. So that's fine.

ArabeIIaScott · 24/04/2023 11:02

Six billion so far, Datun.

Be interesting to see if the drop in revenue/share price applies across all these various brands. I guess some will be more affected than others.

'foaming at the mouth'

ArabeIIaScott · 24/04/2023 11:04

TBH this is one subject I'm particularly bemused that people come to Mumsnet to berate posters on.

Mulvaney is huge. People are literally shooting things in protest at Mulvaney's antics, this is in mainstream papers, all over the news.

T'isn't really us, at this point. Go shout at some other people.

Personally, I think it's because we're women. Some people just like shouting at women.

Using phrases like 'foaming at the mouth', to criticise women objecting to misogyny?

And equating a $6 billion loss to an 'increase in ad revenue', in an attempt to sound superior?

ArabeIIaScott · 24/04/2023 11:19

I guess so.

aligning values is another odd one.

If someone criticises women for criticising a male for mocking women, are they aligning values with all misogynists?

lilyvictus · 24/04/2023 11:26

Not the point of this thread at all, but with a full face of make-up Dylan looks weirdly like Emily in Paris.

Deadringer · 24/04/2023 12:08

I don't find the make up ads offensive, but I do find Dylan irritatingly offensive, that stupid faux feminine shtick gets old very quickly and surely wouldn't encourage anyone to buy the products.

Perfect

FlirtsWithRhinos · 24/04/2023 12:22

DM's sexism is not a value I align with, so I won't be purchasing brands that choose DM to represent them.

I would feel the same had Maybelline chosen to use a known racist or anti semite to represent them, but in this case it happens to be a known sexist.

It's a shame Maybelline chose to endorse sexist and regressive ideas about gender and makeup instead of taking the progressive view that men can enjoy makeup just as much as women can. Especially since the latter opens up a much bigger market!

AutumnCrow · 24/04/2023 12:39

JacquelinePot · 24/04/2023 08:20

Did your rabbit hole include James Lindsay? He got my cogs turning. I'm a bit conflicted because it sounds like tin-foil har time, but I also fins it thoroughly plausible 😬

Thanks for this link.

I listened to it with an open mind, including the sponsored advert stuff, and although I disagree profoundly which Allie Beth Stuckey's anti-abortion position, I thought it was an interesting discussion with some plausible food-for-thought. A few years ago I'd have thought 'total tin foil hat' but having become familiar with the sheer fucking lunacy on the Human Rights Campaign website, I'm no longer so sure.

Both ABS and JL are pretty articulate and knowledgeable and it really puts into perspective just how thick the extreme gender ideologists sound by comparison.

RealityFan · 24/04/2023 12:42

I've worked really hard to not believe in "thin ends of wedges", ulterior objectives etc.

But right now, it's impossible to believe anything other than this is a concerted assault.

Are we really to believe that Maybelline, after seeing what happened at Nike and Bud Light, $6 bn knocked off latter share value, would still go ahead as a normal commercial practice or sane decision making process, in using DM front and centre, seeing the previous fallout?

Are we really to believe that this is just some hip trans friendly SM manager at Maybelline reading the room wrong, and senior management are unaware or caught wrong-footed?

Because I certainly don't. Not anymore. Now I see this as a concerted assault by woke capitalism, not just on women and girls, but on the whole of society, happy to absolutely snub it's core base to appease the Denton's trojan horse playbook, and the Black Rock augmented corporate equity and diversity index.

We should be very very afraid.

lkkjhg · 24/04/2023 12:43

Only 10% of teenage girls do sufficient exercise. Seeing him prancing round in sports bra and leggings promotes a body image (no curves or bust) that most young women won't meet.

A Sports bra should prevent excessive bounce - hardly needed when he's got no bust!

They should promote women's sports wear by showing females doing sport, not some attention seeking bloke. The fact they ditched sponsoring female athletes that got pregnant tells you everything you need to know about the misogynistic attitudes of these companies.
