My boycott list is huge.
There are going to be no brands left at this rate.

Yeah I’m not going to be boycotting Mac.

as a PP says, make up is for anyone of any sex. You want to use a man to advertise it? Knock yourself out

sports bras are a different kettle of fish

I agree with this. People are losing sight of things for the sake of it, like another post I saw that said it should be illegal for men to clean toilets. Great let's make that a woman's job 🙄

Ah cross posted - I'm also listening with open ears and mind

DYLAN had a Web series/you tube .it started "day 1 of being a girl" you can watch it and make up your own mind it basically satires what being female is . do a you tube search and give it a watch.

ValuePartnership · 24/04/2023 08:27

Do women really do that thing that DM does in the commercial - sort of double fist shake in the air? Looks kind of male behaviour to me.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 24/04/2023 08:28

DM has made a mockery of being a woman. It's his whole persona. He is a man, always will be a man. It's insulting for companies to use someone who openly mocks women.

Laladybird · 24/04/2023 08:29

It's aimed at young girls. The point is to normalise men in their spaces, even in their identities.

That is certainly the result, and look how many girls are wanting to transition - it has created a new term (ROGD Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria - which the trans lobby and Stonewall claim in transphobic!)

His mannerisms are almost all what old gay men like me used to call "camp as a row of pink tents", but claiming to be a real woman! Loathsome!

Effieswig · 24/04/2023 08:39

I don't mind transwomen advertising makeup. Make up is used by transwomen.

I do have issues with Dylan, around the way he believes women act, around the fact that Dylan identifies as a a 'girl', around the way Dylan is trying to actually reinforce gender stereotypes. I believe Dylan is very damaging to trans women and women.

I think there's huge red flags around Dylan. I don't have an issue around Dylan advertising make up. I do think I would prefer to avoid companies that choose to ignore the huge red flags and use Dylan in advertising and ignore the issues with Dylans portrayal.

Why are these brands sending him products and sponsoring him??

Some possible options are:

  • the size of DM's followers,
  • the publicity in national press re DM, the current fad of advertisers for 'outrage publicity',
  • the chasing of bright young thing customers while abandoning those women customers actually currently spending money with them and sucking up 'pain points' of those current customers pissing off in hope that their new market lives longer and spends longer (presumably for the five minutes until they're the old-and-will-be-dead-soon-so-fuck-them customers themselves)
  • people in the planning teams sucked into the pretty glitter side of the story who have not yet been able to clock the massive issues they're supporting under the guise of 'equality' and being a lovely kind person

This seems to be the story on a number of other sellers who have leapt aboard this fuck-you-women bandwagon.

marmite2023 · 24/04/2023 08:48

The sports bra Nike thing was an issue because Nike has dropped female athletes when they’ve become pregnant. It’s the hypocrisy I can’t stand

make up is for everyone and mac has always had lgbt product ambassadors.

Throwncrumbs · 24/04/2023 08:49

Mammillaria · 24/04/2023 07:46

I'm no fan of Dylan's, but his make up always seems to be done well. I don't see anything inherently male/female about cosmetics, so unless they're saying he's an actual woman I can't get too upset about this.

From a distance, not so close up!

WickedSerious · 24/04/2023 08:50

Teriyakieverything · 24/04/2023 07:57

Whatever makeup he wears, he always looks like a ventriloquist dummy to me, especially when he bares his teeth.

They could introduce a 'gottle of geer' range.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/04/2023 08:52

Dylan takes the piss out of women ânsia laughing all the way to the bank on the back of it.

Wearing make up isn’t gender specific. Why not just have a bloke happy to be a bloke advertise it 🤷🏻‍♀️

nilsmousehammer · 24/04/2023 08:54

WickedSerious · 24/04/2023 08:50

It is not the trans aspect, it's the fact that this is a male famous for and currently making a very good living by publicly caricaturing male misogynist stereotypes to enact 'woman'. Not the trans part: the behaviour part.

I would usually say I wouldn't mock anyone's appearance, but frankly when a male person is shoving their appearance in people's faces in this insulting way all over the international media, then fair enough for people to say what they like. I wouldn't expect women just to suck up this ill treatment quietly, being female does not equate to doormat.

Mrsjayy · 24/04/2023 08:55

@Effieswig thats pretty much how I feel about the whole thing,

Mamaneedsadrink · 24/04/2023 08:57

Advertisers never really liked women anyway. They've spent decades making us feel inferior about ourselves to buy their products. Why are people feeling outraged or betrayed now?

Whatthechicken · 24/04/2023 08:59

A girl or a woman could have got that gig though - their largest target audience, those people that they get the most money out of.

I hate that women and girls feel pressure to wear make up, so I also hate the idea that advertising it should be women as it reinforces stereotypes.

Seems like different men’s objectives are just getting more priority than ours.

Society and CEOs want us to buy and use the stuff, but grifters get the gig of doing so. Women and girls lose out either way.

Don’t you find it offensive that he takes the piss out of women when he puts make up on? It’s like “look I’m a woman now and this is how women act”, jumping around and acting stupid. It would be like me getting cornrows in my hair and then putting on a Nigerian accent. Deeply offensive.

HappinesDependsOnYou · 24/04/2023 09:01

I am not bothered that they have used a trans person for make up as it isn't a woman specific product. What I am bothered by is the awful make up chosen. Neither is a good look and slapping a HIV message behind it does not change that! I never watched Dylan before but these 2 clips and the Nike one are just uncomfortable viewing. Not because of any trans issue but more the videos are cringy and something I would have done at 14 thinking I was cool. I don't want to see a mediocre make up artist trying to sell me products. I want to see a professional. I don't want to see a poke fun at sports advert to sell me sports gear I want to see an athlete!
