My boycott list is huge.
There are going to be no brands left at this rate.

MAC have a long history of supporting queer causes and promoting inclusivity with make up.

This is right on brand for them.

People of all sexes and gender can wear make up.

Honestly, some people just want to hound Dylan across the internet until she disappears. Its disgusting and bullying behaviour.

If you don't like Dylan, fine. Personally, not my cup of tea either and wouldn't have heard of her if not for people complaining.

The vitriol directed at this young person and the global scale of the relentless criticism and bullying is shameful.

Good on MAC for being one of the first global companies to genuinely stand behind the queer community- I don't think they're going to back off now and nor should they.

Ambertonix · 24/04/2023 09:03

At this point i think these big companies are taking the absolute piss and i hope it backfires badly on them. As for the weird one in a dress i think it is all a publicity kick to see just how far he can go and what people let him get away with. Society seems to be failing miserably at the moment. As for the Maybeline ad, he was DEFINITELY 'born with it' and im not sure we are pretending otherwise.

I'm no fan of Dylan's, but his make up always seems to be done well. I don't see anything inherently male/female about cosmetics, so unless they're saying he's an actual woman I can't get too upset about this.

Agree.

HappinesDependsOnYou · 24/04/2023 09:01

I am not bothered that they have used a trans person for make up as it isn't a woman specific product. What I am bothered by is the awful make up chosen. Neither is a good look and slapping a HIV message behind it does not change that! I never watched Dylan before but these 2 clips and the Nike one are just uncomfortable viewing. Not because of any trans issue but more the videos are cringy and something I would have done at 14 thinking I was cool. I don't want to see a mediocre make up artist trying to sell me products. I want to see a professional. I don't want to see a poke fun at sports advert to sell me sports gear I want to see an athlete!

They're hardly 'slapping an HIV' message on it. Maybe google their track record in this space before you criticise it.

WheelsUp · 24/04/2023 09:05

DM must be laughing all of the way to the bank. When this USP fails he can move onto the next gimmick. I don't blame him for milking it while people throw money at this persona.
While I agree that it's fine to have men sell makeup, don't the ambassadors need to apply it well so the product looks good ? There's loads of LGBT makeup gurus online who would fulfill that requirement better. DM is a glorified Audrey Hepburn cosplayer. There are much more talented cosplay makeup artists who would make brands looks better.
The person who pointed out the Attack on Titan mouth is spot on 😂

While I think Mulvany is awful and his parodies of women are repulsive Make is worn by any sex/gender so I don’t have much of an issue with this.
The sports bra thing is very different

agreed

bofski14 · 24/04/2023 09:06

Not so long ago, if a man was dressing up in knee socks and pigtails, we'd be warned to stay well clear and that he clearly needed mental health help. Now we must "celebrate" him or risk being hounded for our "transphobia". I don't know why the sudden shift happened but frankly, I'm sick of it. This is a fully grown adult man pretending to be a little girl. It's not transphobia to be concerned about that.

No, it is not 'bullying' to comment negatively. This is not someone innocently going about their day to day life. This is someone intentionally seeking comment, publicity, reaction, and making a living by it. They are getting rich on mocking and insulting women. The jury is out as to how consciously they may be doing it.

The whole 'if they're trans whatever they do no one must ever say anything negative or it's bullying' trope is pushing it.

ThePoshUns · 24/04/2023 09:10

I dont believe he is trans at all. He's a fame hungry young man desperate for attention. He does nothing to further the cause of genuine trans women with his little girl cos play.

NotHavingIt · 24/04/2023 09:10

Teriyakieverything · 24/04/2023 07:57

Whatever makeup he wears, he always looks like a ventriloquist dummy to me, especially when he bares his teeth.

Yes, like one of Ken Dodd's Diddymen.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/04/2023 09:12

Oh waaaah poor Dylan being hounded across the internet - for fucks fucking sake

Dylan is making a fuck load of money from taking the absolute piss out of women. He’s met the fucking president for Christsake. He’s so fucking offensive to women & yet there are ppl still feeling sorry for this utter attention seeking narcissist????

Jesus fucking christ

GoShorty · 24/04/2023 09:12

Effieswig · 24/04/2023 08:39

I don't mind transwomen advertising makeup. Make up is used by transwomen.

I do have issues with Dylan, around the way he believes women act, around the fact that Dylan identifies as a a 'girl', around the way Dylan is trying to actually reinforce gender stereotypes. I believe Dylan is very damaging to trans women and women.

I think there's huge red flags around Dylan. I don't have an issue around Dylan advertising make up. I do think I would prefer to avoid companies that choose to ignore the huge red flags and use Dylan in advertising and ignore the issues with Dylans portrayal.

I think this is where I’m at too. I was utterly
offended by the Dylan/Nike sports bra advert and feel very strongly that men do not belong in women’s spaces, but I don’t particularly object to men in general advertising makeup, with the exception of Dylan with that ridiculous parody act - horribly insulting to women. I would say though that it’s not something that would speak to me or encourage me to buy their products. I’ve used Bobbi Brown for years and have always found it brilliant for subtle, ‘like you but better’ makeup. I went to the Bobbi Brown counter in Selfridges a while back to see what was new and it was staffed by two trans men/men in drag makeup and it really didn’t speak to me as a customer. That’s not the look I want so I wasn’t encouraged to stop and try anything.

GoShorty · 24/04/2023 09:14

I meant to type two trans women, not trans men there 🙄. Really heavy drag makeup on them both - even if it was nicely done, it’s not a look I want (or would have associated with the Bobbi Brown brand). Would have expected it more at MAC for example.

KalimbaMoon · 24/04/2023 09:26

Women are the main consumers and the target client base for make-up brands. If women didn’t buy into the beauty industry, these brands couldn’t survive.

Trans women also wear make-up, and to a lesser extent, so do some men (guyliner etc). Dylan, however, is openly mocking women with a very ditsy, silly, flailing girl act, as evidenced in the Days of Girlhood videos.

If Dylan is employed to advertise make-up, or Nike sports bras or any other product that is aimed at women, that means a natal woman has missed out on a paid gig.

These brands think they’re being inclusive but they’re actually excluding and insulting their main client base.

Then he'll be vrying what a victim he was and how he was pressured into this shit onf OH, His poor mental health.

Datun · 24/04/2023 09:28

Like others, I can't suddenly approve of Dylan in that ad, just because they're not actually saying the words this is what a woman does. Parodying women is Dylan's whole schtick. In fact, he identifies as a little girl. Or did, presumably the pushback was a little stronger for that.

Dylan isn't acting like any woman who is advertising make up, either.

It's very theatrical performance, more like drag. Which, if that was Dylan's purpose, I don't think anyone would care as much. Men wearing make up? It's not exactly groundbreaking.

And yes to The George Soros foundation funding these companies. And funnelling it through a compliance index, similar to the Stonewall index. I read years and years ago how much money was being pumped into the promotion of transgenderism, and one of the donors was George Soros.

Well exactly Dylan won't last forever what will happen when someone newer and shinier comes along and Dylan is sidelined ?

It's aimed at young girls. The point is to normalise men in their spaces, even in their identities.

I agree Dylan is fame hungry but on what basis do you think he isn't genuinely "trans"? How are you defining trans? Why doesn't Dylan doesn't fit that definition?

literalviolence · 24/04/2023 09:48

I'm all up for them using a man to advertise make up. But they need to choose a man who treats his fellow human beings respectfully and Dylan hasn't. Choose a different man. It speaks volumes to choose this one.

Tinysoxx · 24/04/2023 09:59

Even forgetting the gender ideology stuff, the emaciated body and manic-like behaviour would not make me want any person like this to advertise my product. What damage would they do to my brand reputation in the future? They are paying someone who has a very unstable life and health. It’s bizarre and shows that fashion/beauty advertising is very short-term game.

Exactly
I can't imagine they would choose an actual woman who looked and behaved in that manner, to represent their brand.
