Starmer insults women’s intelligence to blame Sunak for judicial failures when it was Starmer’s CPS that failed to prosecute rapists

I am so fed up with politicians and their seedy bully boy tactics.

So Starmer having failed to get personal approval from voters who rate Sunak higher than him, doesn't think maybe I should try harder to be more relevant to voters.

No he decides to roll in the gutter and use personal attacks. https://www.jackfm.co.uk/news/politics/labour-takes-inspiration-from-australia-with-sunak-attack-ads-but-they-need-more-to-pull-off-a-proper-ousting/

I'm not saying the Tories are blameless, but lets face it, it was/is the CPS who continued/s to fail to prosecute rapists even when the police present evidence, because the CPS only want to take on sure fire winning court cases to up their stats.

So not only has Labour tried to make out Sunak (who became as MP the same year as Starmer) personally doesn't want child abusers to go to prison, but now has plagerised women campaign's slogan about how rape has been decriminalised. https://rapecrisis.org.uk/get-informed/the-decriminalisation-of-rape/

And yet Labour still doesn't know what a woman is, nor have they re-admitted women expelled from Labour for saying women are biological females. But think our tiny emotional brains will be overwhelmed by their crass statements about women's issues.

Labour seem to think that because this sort of politcal sloganeering used by the vote leave party were sucessful during the Brexit campaign, that this is how they will win the next election.

Which is worse? That our politicians think voters are such dimwits. Or that they might be right. https://labourlist.org/2023/04/labour-attack-ad-rishi-sunak-crime-twitter-controversial-advert/

I think I’ve missed something here. Did the one of the OP’s posts say something about time zones? I’ve looked back but can’t find it.

Are you serously telling me that you don't know that NI is in the same time as the rest of the UK?

I believe I did know that, but I have never been to Ireland, and I suppose if someone had told me that it crossed a time zone, I might have been inclined to believe it. I don't have any reason not to.

I can certainly understand why someone else might not know whether, say, Ireland, or NI, or France, was in a different time zone if they'd never been there or had no reason to call someone there.

I was shocked the other day to find out Bermuda is in the same time zone as Eastern Canada.

Did you know that Canada has six time zones, plus Newfoundland which has a wonky one?

No. It's totally irrelevant to the actual discussion.

FigRollsAlly · 16/04/2023 01:26

Thanks Demi. Good to know!

The OP, on a different thread they started, asked if Belfast was in the same time zone as the rest of the UK.

CliantheLang · 16/04/2023 03:20

Well, since we're thoroughly off topic, how many people know that Mexico is the latest country to finally nuke the whole concept of Summer Time?

I dislike BST. I don’t like very long light evenings because they make it difficult for me to go to sleep. I also find the clock changes discombombulating. I’d have GMT all year round, if I could.
I know this probably isn’t a popular view, most people I speak to about it seem to favour BST all year round, but each to their own.
Brexit, though, is wholly shit on every count with nothing to recommend it at all.

AlisonDonut · 16/04/2023 08:22

I don't care which time they have I've just like it to stay the fucking same the whole year round. GMT is just fine, all the time.

borntobequiet · 16/04/2023 08:58

Oops thought I was on a Brexit thread. Each of the three main political parties are shit on gender issues, I should have said.
I’m just hoping there’s a local party that focuses on traffic calming measures or something who I can vote for with a clear conscience in the local elections. (The LD candidate dropped off some election literature so I rang her up and told her why, as a previous LD member, I could no longer vote for them.)

Floisme · 16/04/2023 09:08

Well I'm not ashamed to say I was mortified enough last night to get onto Google but I'm afraid I came away pretty sharpish after reading that France has 12 time zones. (I'm guessing that includes French territories but who knows.) So I'm afraid I'm none the wiser Blush. Blame my dad who, when I was about 7, used to make a great show of going round the house changing all the clocks while I watched, feeling like my head was being turned inside out. I think we mess with timey wimey at our peril.

Needmoresleep · 16/04/2023 09:10

Each of the three main political parties are shit on gender issues, I should have said.

But presumably shit in different ways as Starmer takes a different line to Sunak. Which do you prefer, and what approach do you think politicians should be taking?

lifeturnsonadime · 16/04/2023 09:11

It's just really lazy politics in my opinion to say that Tories are vile so we should vote to lose women's rights.

Why such low expectations?

ResisterRex · 16/04/2023 09:14

The attack ads don't seem to have worked

Ourladycheesusedatum · 16/04/2023 09:20

Errr I think I would have guessed that Ireland is in the same time zone as UK mainland. But I actually dont know. I thought time zones ran down from top to bottom so it's not a stretch to imagine a timezone line down the sea between us.

Have to agree with gmt/BST. Just pick one and use it permanently. I'm sick of changing. I always shout at the TV when someone comes on and says we'll save electricity cos it'll be lighter in the mornings. Yes mate but it'll be darker in the evening when we will use all that electricity we saved that morning. Or kids can come home from school in daylight, yes mate but they are going to school in the dark.
That old saying about equal and opposite actions.

DemiColon · 16/04/2023 12:04

Yes, time zones run top to bottom.

I also would like to just keep the same times all year. And I think noon should be when the sun is highest, that's what it's supposed to mean.

If people want more time in the morning/evening, they can change their schedules, get up earlier, stay up later. Shops could have different summer hours, if they wanted. Adapt to the seasons rather than trying to pretend nature adapts to our whims.

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 12:06

I’m fine with it switching as I like later lighter evenings in summer

Cause I know where lots of places are but I have no idea of the time zone^.

Are you serously telling me that you don't know that NI is in the same time as the rest of the UK?

Time zones are based to some extent on lines of longitude, but not always exactly so. As Northern Ireland is longitudinally to the west of the mainland of the U.K. it is understandable not to be sure what their time zone is.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/04/2023 01:13

Oh so worldwide humiliation then excellent Grin. Thank you for telling me @TooBigForMyBoots**
I appreciate it.

If you're the op. have you pointed out that it's time zones and BST I've never understood, as opposed to the location of Ireland? I'm asking because that was the conclusion you seemed to come to yourself on here? You don't have to of course, My ignorance is all mine.

Needmoresleep · 17/04/2023 07:32

Floisme, all I know is that the west coast of Ireland feels as if it should be in a different time zone, though not as much as the west coast of France which has very late summer evenings.

Anyway came back to post that Keir has done it again. This time on Council tax rises, not women.

Its weird. As if the Labour Party wonks are sitting around asking “which are the issues where we feel vulnerable”. Then deciding that attack the Tories is the best form of defence.

Abetter strategy might be to consider where their offer is better than that of the Conservatives. If they struggle, and the problem seems to either not listening to voters/members, or from sitting on the fence and failing to agree/articulate what they stand for, then they need to tackle that first.

Floisme · 17/04/2023 07:58

Thank you Needmoresleep It's ok though - ridiculous to have got to my age without understanding time zones Smile (I still don't though.)

I imagine Labour are basically doing a lot of market research at the moment - throwing out ideas and seeing how they go down with the public before they write their manifesto.

They linked it because you made a nasty sneering post in AIBU about people not knowing timezones of their own country and then lied about it being a TAAT. If there's negativity, you've caused it.

Floisme · 17/04/2023 08:28

Yes, I saw it yesterday. It’s called something like “Fuck me pink and call me Rosie” or something similarly dramatic and attention seeking.

That was a dick move, @TooBigForMyBoots Hmm
