Do you already own anything by Nike that you no longer want to wear

Sharron Davis has just posted an idea - if you're really angry with Nike and no longer want to wear the stuff you've already got then send it back to them. I would love the thought of their offices being swamped.

The tweet is here:

https://twitter.com/sharrond62/status/1645015519072854017

A reply in the thread notes this as Nike UK headquarters

Film House, 142 Wardour St, London W1F 8DD

Anticipating someone pointing out the cost of living and wasting of clothes - if you're not going to wear something any more you've three choices, throw it out, charity shop or send Nike stuff to Nike in protest.

UK charity shops are so swamped with unsold clothes that it ends up abroad being their rubbish to deal with - so I reckon you can send your stuff back to Nike with a clear conscience.

And anticpating further criticism - I am not trying to Nike shame anyone who cannot afford to replace their running or gym gear - or just wants to wear what they already own. Nor am I trying to tell you not to buy Nike if it is the only thing you like or you don't care about the furore. Wear what you like, buy what you like!

But if you are angry, and don't want your Nike gear anymore then the above address is just a thought.

If you really wanted to support women, you shouldn’t have bought Nike in the first place. They use Uyghur female slaves to make their clothes. But ofcourse that doesn’t interest you a lot, you are only interested when something about trans people is on…

Don’t worry mate, we’re all crocheting our own yogurt by candlelight now.

Another good reason to boycott Nike, along with their despicable treatment of the pregnant female athelite.

They issued a statement asking people to Be Kind @fantasyhomesbythesea

Thank you @Mumped I'm not feeling it right now so I've reviewed on trustpilot 😁

There's posters on here that say they're from the USA and Australia, it's naive to assume we're all in the UK on here.

And there are Nike stores in Australia that people can take their things to.

Why on earth are people trying to shame women for making a statement about their boundaries?

Do you really not think women across the world taking things to local Nike stores or to offices or whatever is worth trying to shame them about ?

Mumped · 09/04/2023 21:08

I thought you were ‘as GC as they come’ @L3ThirtySeven

So how do you not understand why this advert might be problematic for women and girls?

And why have you been on this thread all day long telling women why, when and how they are allowed to protest?

I think it’s silliness and looking to be offended tbh. Transgender people are here to stay. What clothes are they supposed to wear? Are there not to be any adverts with transpeople advertising clothing at all? It’s not like there is a clothing shortage and every transwoman that buys a sports bra means a woman goes without a sportsbra. I mean come on! Of all the things to fixate on what another person chooses to wear isn’t anything to do with women’s rights at all.

Not when we have bigger fish to fry like keeping women safe in women’s spaces like prisons, refuges, rape crisis centres, hospital wards, school changing rooms.

Yes Ive been telling other women not to post Nike stuff to Nike Headquarters because it’s environmentally irresponsible. If you want to express outrage over transwomen buying sports bras and Nike doing an advert for them, there are so many ways to do that without contributing to the climate crisis.

Personally, I think protesting these adverts is petty and makes everyone GC look ridiculous. Embarrassing really. This is what we are supposed to focus on? Who wears what from Nike? Really? What’s next? Boycott Prada because they put a transwoman in stilettos by tossing all our high heels into the nearest river? It’s childish nonsense. No better than the idiots flinging tomato soup on paintings or dumping raw sewage on statues.

Aliciasays · 09/04/2023 21:20

Really don’t get the outrage on this. DM was just doing a paid partnership as an ‘influencer’. It’s low grade niche advertising, not like it was an ad on prime time that you couldn’t ignore.

It was appealing to DMs audience, if you’re not a follower why would you care? It reeks of transphobia to be honest. Trans women will want to wear sports clothes. DM has a well known OTT style of expression, both before and after presenting feminine. People who follow DM will ‘get it’.

Not that I need to qualify my opinion but I disagree with transwomen in women’s sport and certain other spaces and I think trans people remain the sex they are born regardless of cross sex hormones and body modification.

But trans people exist and some of them will want to buy sports clothes.

I agree. I haven’t bought anything Nike for twenty years because of their slave labour record. But apparently that’s ok, but omg let a transwoman buy and wear a sports bra and people are all like 🤯😱

Why don't you want to wear Nike anymore?

Cos they are misogynistic. Read the news.

Bore off? really?

I think DM is crap too but the frothing over this is really embarrassing.

Mumped · 09/04/2023 21:27

If you can’t see how harmful bullshit stereotypes of femininity, performed by people with a dick and balls wearing a sports bra and sponsored by massive powerful brands are an important feminist issue then…NAH, you ain’t GC, bruv! @L3ThirtySeven

DiscoBeat · 09/04/2023 21:29

The economic and environmental waste that’s being encouraged is pretty poor.
Agreed!

They're posting sportswear, not dogshit or homemade bombs.

It’s not important at all. We simply disagree on the importance of it.
Please do let me know where you think this issue is in the following list:

  • womens maternity wards
  • violence against women
  • attacks on women’s rights activists
  • womens MH units
  • womens prisons
  • womens rape crisis centers
  • womens DV refuges
  • womens personal care when disabled/elderly
  • womens gyms/changing rooms/showers
  • womens sports
  • sexism and the gender pay gap
  • pregnancy discrimination
  • dying in childbirth
  • drugs not tested on women
  • gender pension gap
  • motherhood career penalty
  • CMS not being enforced
  • unfair divorce settlements
  • unfair sentencing by justice system
  • misogynistic police force
  • jobs restricted to women
  • awards restricted to women
  • bursaries/fellowships for women
  • crime statistics collected by sex not gender

A home video of a transwoman being ultra-feminine and prancing about while wearing a Nike sports bra posted online? It’s nothing. It’s not worth the mental space you are giving it.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 09/04/2023 21:48

I don't have any Nike stuff to post, but I am aghast some people on this thread thought Australian MNers are too stupid to google their own nation's Nike company headquarters.

Apart from anything else, have you not seen the price of international postage?

And I very much doubt that postal companies would ship masses of parcels via international post, without it being throughly paid for upfront. Before any of it went on the boat, the central sorting office that handled international deliveries would contact Nike HQ to confirm Nike was going to pay for it, and the customs charges too.

Mumped · 09/04/2023 21:49

Is Dylan Mulvaney a woman?

What IS a woman?

If we can’t even answer that, we can’t fully address any of the issues on that lengthy list of yours.

You can disagree with that stance but many, many women feel differently to you @L3ThirtySeven

Feel free not to give it anymore headspace. Plenty of you us will be, though, whatever you think or say.

CremeEggQueen · 09/04/2023 21:59

I am genuinely not trying to be goady, but are those Nike sports bras that I have been wearing as a female for many years now made to fit men? I am rarely confused but this has confused me. Surely sports clothes need to be made for women.
I'm genuinely not trying to be goady either, but you do realise we all come in different shapes and sizes, right? Not all of us are big titted, or whatever.
If you need a sports bra, then you need a sports bra.
There's not a one size fits all!
Would rather see a company trying to be inclusive to everyone not just people with Barbie figures

The irony, you said to me “you’re not GC, bruv” and now you’re asking me “what is a woman?” 🤣

I know a woman is an adult human female with two XX chromosomes.
How can you know what GC is if you don’t even know what a woman is?

And I see you are ignoring my request regarding the “importance” of DM prancing about in a sports bra as a “feminist issue”

Since you don’t know what a woman is, I’m starting to suspect you also do not know what a feminist is or even what important means.

How do you know “many many women” feel differently when you don’t even know what a woman is? 😳

CremeEggQueen · 09/04/2023 22:03

Also this

Mumped · 09/04/2023 22:06

I know why I’ve invested a lot of time on this issue today. But seeing as you think it’s all a bit ‘silly’, I’m struggling to understand why you have. Why not go off and concentrate on the ‘real’ issues?

Anyhow, it’s been great!

I’m off to parcel up my Nike joggers.

Me too. Besides some large men do have man boobs. Why not have sports bras for them too?

Bláthannabuí · 09/04/2023 22:13

Does anyone think Nike would ever in a million years hire a Trans Man to "model" their men's wear?
The shit us women put up with however that daft video was the biggest slap in the face yet..
Dd's needed runners this weekend, we always got them Nike since they started school... Ordered them sketchers. Will never purchase Nike again after that & neither will my dd's.

I’ve spent time on this because as well as caring about real women’s issues, I also care about the planet and the climate crisis. To purposely cause more pollution with pointless outrage with Nike (who as a US company is going to ignore your manky joggers), is environmentally irresponsible. You care more about virtue signalling your feelings about watching a transwoman in a sports bra than you care about the future generations of women who will inherit this planet from us.
