Do you already own anything by Nike that you no longer want to wear

Sharron Davis has just posted an idea - if you're really angry with Nike and no longer want to wear the stuff you've already got then send it back to them. I would love the thought of their offices being swamped.

The tweet is here:

A reply in the thread notes this as Nike UK headquarters

Film House, 142 Wardour St, London W1F 8DD

Anticipating someone pointing out the cost of living and wasting of clothes - if you're not going to wear something any more you've three choices, throw it out, charity shop or send Nike stuff to Nike in protest.

UK charity shops are so swamped with unsold clothes that it ends up abroad being their rubbish to deal with - so I reckon you can send your stuff back to Nike with a clear conscience.

And anticpating further criticism - I am not trying to Nike shame anyone who cannot afford to replace their running or gym gear - or just wants to wear what they already own. Nor am I trying to tell you not to buy Nike if it is the only thing you like or you don't care about the furore. Wear what you like, buy what you like!

But if you are angry, and don't want your Nike gear anymore then the above address is just a thought.

If anyone is inciting a hate mob against a company could this amount to criminality?

Sending sportswear in the post is not a ‘hate mob’ you silly sausage!

Plus, corporations aren’t humans 😂😂😂

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2023 12:47

You realise that people are allowed to dislike, disapprove of and boycott brands? And encourage others to do the same?

Kleptronic · 09/04/2023 12:47

I wish all the historical hate mobs had got the memo that it was all about posting used clothing.

Mumped · 09/04/2023 12:48

@MerlinsLostMarbles

Right. Well, if you’re concerned, why don’t you set up a crowdfunded for poor, victimised little Nike to fight the evil hate mob?

Do me a favour!

I don't do any sportswear (happily old, lazy & untrendy) but will seek some out in a charity shop and send it to the Nike address above, thereby also helping out a charity.

Please don’t do this, there are many people who shop exclusively at charity shops who actually want to buy Nike products who can’t at regular prices.

stealthninjamum · 09/04/2023 12:53

I think I’ve got some Nike running shoes that are crusted in mud. I’ll send them back without a stamp and be pleased that Nike are paying the postage.

PinkyU · 09/04/2023 12:59

Wouldn’t a better idea be to sell your unwanted items cheap the donate the money to a charity that promotes or supports your cause? That way no clothes are being sent to landfill, charities are being helped and others get quality items of clothing/footwear they’d otherwise not be able to afford.

Surely this is better than sending clothes to a head office who will send them to landfill?

The economic and environmental waste that’s being encouraged is pretty poor.

Serotona picking up one or two Nike bits makes no difference to other charity shop shoppers if she wears them or posts them.

Either way they wouldn’t be there for someone else to buy.

Should I not buy a large dress and alter it to fit my medium frame in case a larger woman wants it?

I do understand your impulse to Be Kind but it’s ok for other women to prioritise making a political point for the benefit of all women over one random woman’s ability to buy secondhand sportswear (who might not be poor anyway).

EmotionalSupportHyena · 09/04/2023 13:01

The economic and environmental waste that’s being encouraged is pretty poor.

Other people have different political priorities to you.
Get over it.

Nike will most likely donate it right back to charity we are talking principles here

I think you’re trying to derail the thread with a comment you must know (unless you live in fantasy land?) is bollocks @MerlinsLostMarbles

Boycotting a brand that doesn’t ally with your values isn’t hate.

You can’t commit a hate crime against a multinational corporation.

Hope that clears that up.

Mumped · 09/04/2023 13:55

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 09/04/2023 13:58

Sadly I can't do this. I have never bought Nike clothes or trainers as I have never been confident about their child labour policies.

Sending clothes back to a company is inciting a hate mob.

Is this the new upside down world where words have different meanings.

Covetthee · 09/04/2023 14:05

I don’t think sending back clothes that have already paid into their company will do anything, unless its a newish item and you get your money back

do the feedback on their site and boycott the brand from now on, these companies only notice stuff when it hits them in the pocket and not buying anymore will make them
notice more.

There are tweets in response to Sharon Davies suggesting people enter Nike stores (to cause trouble to employees who know nothing about this and are just doing their job?) and to leave false negative feedback online?

Are Nike aware of this hate campaign? Are the police aware?

I hope Nike are aware - the whole point of the exercise is to make the company aware!

Hassling retail staff isn’t ok tho. I can’t imagine many feminists would promote that - it’s really not our style.

Women are leaving negative reviews on the Nike website, and some are returning unwanted Nike items. Send in the army!

You know about projection, right?

Companies using a transperson in their ads isn't going to make the sky fall down.

I’m not the one who thinks that posting used clothes is a ‘hate mob’.

Deffo not projection. Just looking out for your mental health!
