Do you already own anything by Nike that you no longer want to wear

Sharron Davis has just posted an idea - if you're really angry with Nike and no longer want to wear the stuff you've already got then send it back to them. I would love the thought of their offices being swamped.

The tweet is here:

A reply in the thread notes this as Nike UK headquarters

Film House, 142 Wardour St, London W1F 8DD

Anticipating someone pointing out the cost of living and wasting of clothes - if you're not going to wear something any more you've three choices, throw it out, charity shop or send Nike stuff to Nike in protest.

UK charity shops are so swamped with unsold clothes that it ends up abroad being their rubbish to deal with - so I reckon you can send your stuff back to Nike with a clear conscience.

And anticpating further criticism - I am not trying to Nike shame anyone who cannot afford to replace their running or gym gear - or just wants to wear what they already own. Nor am I trying to tell you not to buy Nike if it is the only thing you like or you don't care about the furore. Wear what you like, buy what you like!

But if you are angry, and don't want your Nike gear anymore then the above address is just a thought.

Oh yes, let’s cause extra CO2 emissions by posting stinky used Nike wear back to Nike because we’re angry! It’s totally worth the extinction of polar bears and the loss of yet more of Norfolk to rising seas, to exacerbate rye climate crisis just to score a point against Nike daring to have naff advertising.

Women's rights. Literally less important than polar bears.

And what womens right is Nike infringing upon? No right whatsoever.

If anyone is inciting a hate mob against a company could this amount to criminality?

No, it's a boycott.
Perfectly legal and respectable form of democratic protest.

Tell me you don't understand women's rights without... etc.

I love all my Nike stuff. I go to the gym 5 times a week and replace my leggings and trainers regularly. Won't be Nike next time.

There are tweets in response to Sharon Davies suggesting people enter Nike stores (to cause trouble to employees who know nothing about this and are just doing their job?) and to leave false negative feedback online?

Are Nike aware of this hate campaign? Are the police aware?

Since they're internationally not particularly bothered apparently by fractured skulls, screaming mobs kettling and exorting money/hostage holding/ or mobs carrying around placards with death and rape threats on them, I doubt women sending clothing back and talking politely to shop employees/leaving negative tweets is really going to be of much interest to the police.

Telling women that they are less important than polar bears isn’t the persuasive argument you imagine it to be 😄

Talking about yourself are you? Seriously, how is posting used Nike stuff to Nike defending any women’s rights? Even if you decide that it is a right to be able to buy a sports bra, the recent advert that many found to be naff isn’t taking away this right to a sports bra.

Youre not fighting for women’s rights by posting used Nike stuff to Nike.

So make your points clearer?

Do you lecture trans people about the environmental impact of transition? Those silicon implants won’t biodegrade and all those programmer socks from Amazon are imported from China.

EmotionalSupportHyena · 09/04/2023 14:51

I’m guessing our propolarbearposters don’t know (or don’t care) about Nike’s shoddy treatment of female athletes…

Lol. Silicon is a natural chemical element. It doesn’t need to biodegrade because it’s already 100% natural.

So is being treated awesome an actual right then? Who would have thought it.
I see you are struggling to come up with an actual women’s right that Nike is threatening.

Are you working for Nike?
I cant imagine why else you would want to try coercing us into not sending stuff back.
Does it hurt your bottom line?

Or in short, why do you care?

FWIW I currently have no Nike stuff, I only bought the Nike airs when my PF flares up. And now I'll be buying a different brand.

So now women speaking up is a crime AND and an environmental travesty.

I’m waiting for a couple more to call BINGO!

No, I do not work for Nike.

I take the climate crisis seriously, and posting tonnes of old Nike stuff just to score points in some offended feelings over Nike advertising is not a good reason to add yet more CO2 emissions and further exacerbate the climate crisis.

It’s an environmentally irresponsible form of protest. No one should be encouraging it at all.

Have a wee look at the periodic table my lovely. It’s #14 and goes by Si.

You can speak up in ways that do not also purposely worsen the environmental crisis.

I won’t be getting sidetracked from talking about women’s rights on this thread, I’m afraid.

Carbon emissions aren’t the topic. Start your own topic or better still, put your energy into campaigning against massive, environmentally disasterous corporations like Nike instead of narking at feminists on Mumsnet?

BellaPiella · 09/04/2023 15:09

All my gym wear is Nike. I won’t be posting it back to them, but need new trainers anyway and will never buy Nike again. Surely this marketing campaign is a gift to other brands who must watch this unfold and think thank you Nike 💰💰💰

LMAO, the sheer desperation is something to behold.
