Do you know what Nike? Forget about “just do it”, as far as I am concerned you can just do one.

It might well calm things down with beer drinkers in the US. I don't think it will do much for pinot grigio drinkers in the UK. (DD claims that this is the drink of choice for mums on a girls night out.) But we are not their target market and Dylan has little/no appeal for us.

Sports bras...different. I am told by members of my walking group that a good sports bra is a worthwhile purchase even though my sports days are long over.

This is playing out in an odd way. Silver lining is that COEs will be a bit more cautious about embracing the woke.

Women's concerns about the celebration of "new" women are not addressed.

Donald Trump Jr calls for an end to the Bud Light boycott

Donald Trump Jr on Thursday declared that it was time to end the boycott of Bud Light, arguing that the parent company donated more to Republicans than Democrats.

IcakethereforeIam · 15/04/2023 09:27

That man's a moron, 'I'm leaving them alone, I think you should too.' So, carry on with the boycott?

Liked a comment I noticed, 'Gas lighting Trumps' from someone apparently in the States, so not sure if pun intended.

Still a fan girl for the Mail picture editor....

This is quite good. I have real reservations about some of the limes taken by GB news, and worry that it is as polarising as Fox News, but they are good on gender. (Perhaps we should have an unbiased, informative national broadcaster. Perhaps we could call it the British Broadcasting Corporation.)

NANA AKUA: My heart sank when I saw that the beer brand had become the latest corporation to launch a partnership with Dylan Mulvaney to make videos promoting its product.

I wonder if Donald Trump Jr might have shares in Anheuser Busch?

I don't like that statement. I get a feeling of manipulation about it.

We're part of the fabric of America, we have tens of thousands of workers in our employ, (don't jeopardise them), we believe in freedom, hard work and respect.

To me, and I realise Brits aren't as patriotic as the US, it comes across as you cant boycott us because we stand for American values, noo don't look at the prancing twit mocking women while I'm telling you how amazing we are, in a humble way of course.

Oh, and not only that I personally work tirelessly so you can all have a beer and look into the sunset.

Nah.

Datun · 15/04/2023 09:34

Did he leverage his military service? To sell beer using a misogynistic twat who wants to hand out Tampax to women?

nilsmousehammer · 15/04/2023 09:41

I'm a good guy, American values, did I mention I'm a good guy, look at the American values.

Yeah whatever.

Nah.

It's a Belgian owned company.

Not that you would notice from the push back.

I have an ear worm of "good old boys drinking whiskey and rye", except it is Bud Light.

GailBlancheViola · 15/04/2023 10:27

The statement has a definite patriotic Americans plea about it. Funny how their VP of marketing chose to trash those self same patriotic Americans by describing them as fratty with an out of date sense of humour and not the right sort of people and seems to think a man derisorily mocking and parodying women is fabulous. Hmm.

Fukuraptor · 15/04/2023 11:25

This is from before the recent controversy but I came across it yesterday. I think he does a good job of pointing out how women would never be celebrated in this way.

On my way to the shops now to return the Nike trainers. Shame as they're just the style I was after, but I cannot support Nike!

MavisMcMinty · 15/04/2023 12:26

Don’t watch the Matt Walsh thing if you love Kate Bush.

I don’t think so? HQ is in St Louis,
Missouri.

They’ve always (in my lifetime) promoted American values and a patriotic image. Supportive of our military.

I know that’s not for everyone but the statement will work on their target market, hopefully without enrage the cancel culture mob. (Not the target market the VP wanted to attract, obviously, but I suspect her days there are numbered.)

I would really like to see companies just focusing on what they were created to do, in this case brewing beer, rather than engaging in political nonsense.

AB InBev was formed in 2008 through the acquisition of Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch by Belgian conglomerate InBev—which is itself a merger of Stella Artois-maker Interbrew and Brazil's AmBev. In 2015, AB InBev acquired its biggest rival in North America, SABMiller, for $107 billion.

Easy Google.

Which makes the all-American brand fight-back rather strange.

Not to me, probably not to most Americans. It just feels like a historically American company, traded on the NYSE, with a parent company overseas. No one is going to think people in Belgium are driving the marketing strategy.

I said from the start and still believe this was probably a younger person with a budget to give to influencers, not a decision made at the Executive level or by a big marketing team. I think that’s true. I also think the woman VP will resign or be fired.

AliceOlive · 15/04/2023 19:27

And the benefits of this event remains- companies will be aware that getting involved in promoting people like DM will lose $ in the US.

AliceOlive · 15/04/2023 19:30

On a separate note, my husband just bought beer at the beer store and asked the clerk if this really impacted sales. They said it had a huge impact and they have loads of customers that switched to other brands.

He also said Bud light was prominently displayed at the front of the store and there was a vehicle outside with their advertising all over it.

Fukuraptor · 16/04/2023 10:00

I suspect a good reason for the parent company to try and calm the horses but not say anything too controversial is that they are probably trying to limit the damage to this one brand rather than have the boycott spread to their other brands.

Yes indeed. Although as ear worms go, it's a goodie

Absolutely horrific thread where girls with eating disorders discuss trying to attain Mulvany's physique. Including mastectomies.

Donald Trump Jr. is not the boss of me. It's too late for the bigwigs at Budweiser to try and seek some neutral ground now after they fired such a salvo on behalf of the Trans lobby. Plus, the more Budwesier bleed from this, the more other companies will avoid doing the same.

Also, Kiwifarms is back up after a brief outage and the first thing I see on loading the page is this:
