Do you know what Nike? Forget about “just do it”, as far as I am concerned you can just do one.

Didn’t read the whole article, but just watch what she says.

The article is great, though:

The decision to work with Mulvaney angered many loyal customers, including country singer Travis Tritt, who made the decision to remove all of the products from his tour bus and Kid Rock, who shot at several cases of Bud Light.

I have read that part elsewhere. But in the US this will just be made out to be rednecks/conservatives being whatever *ist.

Everything is so polarized and I truly believe many have stopped thinking for themselves. They look at whatever channel they follow (and they are all awful!) and decide what they think based on what they are told.

The POTUS invited DM to the white house. The VP wrote a supportive letter. There are plenty of people who, at most, will look a bit sheepish if you point out any problems with this because they refuse to criticize a D, ever, period.

I am absolutely disgusted with Nike. Before I was aware of this, I ordered some Nike trainers. I will be returning them immediately!

AlisonDonut · 11/04/2023 18:38

I'd like to know what percentage of sales are for female items as opposed to unisex and male.

AliceOlive · 11/04/2023 19:40

@AlisonDonut I found this

https://www.statista.com/statistics/888763/nikes-revenue-by-customer-segment-worldwide/

But would love to factor in who actually made the purchasing decisions, and who paid.

Wives, mothers and girlfriends surely buy the bulk of the women's and children’s clothing and probably a large % of the men’s also.

Nike's wholesale revenue by segment 2022 | Statista

This statistic shows Nike's wholesale revenue worldwide from the financial years of 2020 to 2022, by customer segment.

AlisonDonut · 11/04/2023 19:53

So not 1% which is the amount that went to female athletes for promotions then. Weird.

Oigetoffmylawn · 12/04/2023 10:38

Well that's good news!

IcakethereforeIam · 12/04/2023 10:51

The lady responsible for the Bud light promotion is now suspected of being trans herself 😁 I don't believe she is. I think suspicions arose because of the DM promotion, associated 'woke' statements and because she's had three children by surrogacy. I believe there was cancer and bearing her own kids would have increased the chance of a recurrence*. Obviously, not something that worried her regarding the woman/women whose bodies she rented (wonders if she asked Dylan to be a surrogate?).

  • can ignore this as even more of a derail, but wouldn't egg harvesting also be risky regarding hormone sensitive cancers?
Ourladycheesusedatum · 12/04/2023 10:57

So boycotting actually works, who knew.

Next up Mark's and Spencer's, and the innumerable others (who's names I've forgotten, sorry)

Nike was the Greek Goddess of victory…

BluebellBlueballs · 12/04/2023 12:15

This has made me so happy! Definitely a case of go woke go broke. At the end of the day all these companies want is our £££ so hopefully others will sit up and take notice.

Bluebells1970 · 12/04/2023 12:24

Hopefully this will make other companies take note ... not all publicity is good after all.

highame · 12/04/2023 13:14

This is interesting. Bud, I believe is mostly drunk by men, so men don't want transwomen advertising their stuff........whoda thought.

Whilst we are battling along, men are also thinking about the progressive branding and giving their opinion.

They may take a long time to recover from this. Their base drinks at least weekly, some daily. They won’t stop drinking beer; they will just drink something else. There are so many beers to choose from now in the US. Both older brands and new. Many faithful Bud Light drinkers probably never bother to try anything else unless pressed. What happens now when they try something and like it? They won’t go back easily.

Also, the VP claimed to love bud light beer, and that gives her some serious credibility problems in my book. No 40 year old Wharton Grad would. Too many great options all around.

Its that moment when loyal customers realise that the brand they've been supporting for years has nothing but contempt for them and would rather court people who will never buy their brand than deign to acknowledge what their loyal customers want.

Interesting that there hasn't been a push by TRA's to buy bud light in support (could that be because it tastes terrible)

nilsmousehammer · 12/04/2023 17:12

They can insert their 'pain points' sideways up their ageist, woke little bottoms.

It may be indicative of the likelihood that the influence of TRA is limited when it comes to real-life, offline reality.

The loud voices are magnified online. A few people can make huge waves. In the tangible world, you still need many people working together to have influence.

Imagine DM, in Eloise costume or Nike Gear, flitting and flopping around and trying to convince any mature, healthy adult to join up with any cause.

I should imagine that’s for several reasons, not least because a lot of that generation don’t drink or they’re too young to, even if they want to. And even if they did suddenly start drinking it, it’s such a small demographic that the increase in sales will be more than offset by the reduction in their traditional customer base.

Wonder if this will be a Ratner moment for brands and their EDI policies?

$3bn wiped off their share price!

But hey, apparently we just don’t “understand” Dylan (oh we do, mate) and the brand owner say Bud Light has been “in decline” for some time. Yeah, but that decline has rapidly sped up over the last 10 days, hasn’t it, so you can wriggle out of the bad publicity that way. Nice try, though.

Dylan Mulvaney says Bud Light critics 'don't understand' her

In an appearance on Rosie O'Donnell's podcast , Mulvaney said she was a 'target' because she only began transitioning a year ago. Her campaign with Bud Light launched on April 1.

@SidewaysOtter great analogy re Ratners

Badbudgeter · 12/04/2023 18:39

It does remind me of the Yardley brand attempting to appeal to a new market in the 1990s. Failed to attract new customers in meaningful numbers, alienated their existing customer base. Went into receivership.

It was taught to us as an example of how not to market a brand in uni.

GailBlancheViola · 12/04/2023 19:18

Yes it is treating their customers with utter contempt, the sneering remarks by the VP about their core market were definitely in Ratner territory. Happy to pocket these despicable customer's cash in the past though.

When will businesses learn that their one and only job is to sell stuff people want to buy to those who want to buy it. That's it.

It is not their job to preach, lecture, 'educate', tell their customers what to think, play politics or sneer, offend or insult their customers.

I am rather happy that Bud have had 3bn wiped off their share price, I hope it continues to fall.

Next stop Nike.
