TRAs seem to be keeping away since organisers gained assurances from police that the women would, at last, be protected.
Lots of gay men also attending in support

Hi - the event today looked marvellous.

I just wanted to say that I’m in NZ and obviously it has been a difficult week or so in many ways - though in some it feels like a scab has been ripped off and the festering sore is at least exposed now and for that I am so very grateful to Posie.

But I also wanted to say thank you to Julia Long and (everyone!) for remembering the women of Australia and New Zealand today and for the reading the speeches, that should have been read out at Albert Park, Auckland, in front of the NZ Embassy in London. It means more than I could express and was profoundly touching.

We have followed the battles and supported women in the UK from afar for a long time and it was moving to realise you will not forget about us either. It reminded me of the great kinship between women, of all that binds us and it made me hopeful for all of us. So thank you.

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/04/2023 22:43

I was there and had the privilege of being able to speak, it was truly wonderful to finally share my story

Crutcher · 02/04/2023 22:54

It was a bot boring TBH. Without the TRAs to provide entertainment it there was little worth watching.

RhannionKPSS · 02/04/2023 23:55

I think you will find that Let Women Speak isn’t done for entertainment, it’s to give a voice to women & girls & inform people, it’s unfortunate you can’t see that

ifIwerenotanandroid · 03/04/2023 00:01

I've long thought that we'll know we're back to what passes as normal when women are left alone to have their meetings because those meetings are 'boring'.

We're not there yet.

I was hoping the TRAs would provide the entertainment. Otherwise the Women Speaking were kinda repetitive and preaching to the choir. You hear 3 you've heard them all.

Walkingtheplank · 03/04/2023 00:30

What a turn up for the books - alot of Police and very few TRAs.
It seems bizarre that the TRAs just evaporated. I wonder if they just didnt realise LWS has gone weekly.

I also wonder whether the Minister for Policing (who was on the news last week saying that what happened in NZ was awful, that womens rights had been threatened and that KJK had every right to express her views) might have had a word with The Met about last weeks poor Policing.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/04/2023 01:45

Some NZ women held a LWS event too.
Dangerous fascists, every one Wink

What a fabulous turnout!
I'm still only part way through watching - i've got as far as a very upset lady is discussing her school age child, she shows a folder but i am unable to see what it's about, can anyone enlighten me please? ( about the 1:05 minute mark )
Fingers crossed that as many people can turn out every week.

Yeah, coz women all sound the same. No need to listen to more than 3 of them. Especially not at an event called Let Women Speak. It would be different if it were blokes, right? They might have something important to say.

🙄

The menz might play drums and twerk, then punch some old ladies in their faces, so much entertainment!

Were you there? Because I was, and very quickly it got repetitive and preaching to the choir.

Crutcher · 03/04/2023 04:58

At Speakers' Corner anyone can speak. And most weeks most speakers are men. And most of them or boring and repetitive AF. I'm talking even the select few who gave anything intelligent to say at all.

Notice how there are no reports of them being attacked, screamed at, surrounded or bullied in any way.

That was my first thought, nobody mobbing him, nobody assaulting him, nobody even telling him to go home. Look how safe he is and how confident he feels.

So much for the most vulnerable, most oppressed group in society.

SapphosRock · 03/04/2023 07:27

The success of Let Women Speak, depends on them showing up and being their arseholey, music blaring, silencing-us selves.

That's a bit insulting to the women who speak isn't it? Claiming the only reason these events are a success are because they attract violent TRAs? Not because women can actually be heard speaking.

KJK Tweeted 'bring your eggs' for the next one though so hopefully they will be back Confused

Floisme · 03/04/2023 07:27

Goodness, from fascist to boring in 7 days.

TBF most things in London are repetitive and boring.
Museums. Lots of old stuff looking much the same. Boring.
Art galleries. Far too many paintings, most done in boring old paint.
Parks, full of boring trees and flowers. Seen one park, seen them all.
Shops full of boring clothes, generally overpriced.
Theatres showing uninteresting plays and musicals. They repeat them every night! Boring.

I recommend you stay at home and make your own entertainment.

Goodness, from fascist to boring in 7 days.

Indeed! Makes you wonder why they were so desperate to silence women last week.

Still, it’s in the middle of London. Anyone finding it boring can toddle off and feed the ducks, or buy their sweets on Oxford Street or something.

A very sad story of how two schools supported the transition of her 11 year old daughter without her knowledge. The child now lives with the dad who has affirmed the transition and mum is seen as a transphobe. The daughter first came out as a lesbian, which mum supported, but the daughter was bullied for it. The daughter is now self harming despite transitioning and she 'can't wait' until she's 16 and can get testosterone and 18 a double mastectomy. I cried when I heard her story. The mum is understandably desperate.

Put the mum in touch with Erin Friday, of Our Duty, and threaten any surgeon that will touch these children with law suits.

Without conflict it kind of puts paid to the core demand of 'let' women speak. It's a bit like Piers Corbyn and his band of crackpots coming there weekly to announce, 'they' will not silence us. Completely ignoring the fact that he's free to spout his theories week after week and nobody has the slightest interest in silencing him.

By and large Speakers' Corner has a very receptive audience for anti trans views. The vast majority of people there would agree. The only reason the event attracts interest and stands out in any way above the weekly cacophony of debaters and pontificaters in Speakers' Corner, is because of the controversy and counter protests.
