TRAs seem to be keeping away since organisers gained assurances from police that the women would, at last, be protected.
Lots of gay men also attending in support

Fantastic news! The crowd looks great

DialSquare · 02/04/2023 17:12

This is really heartening isn't it. Such a great turn out. I'll have a proper listen later.

SidewaysOtter · 02/04/2023 17:14

Bloody brilliant. Now they’re weekly I’m hoping to catch a couple.

As a PP says, the few TRAs in attendance aren’t being abused by the women, are they? As the women are when they’re outnumbered. Although I agree with another PP - I expect many are at home and don’t want to have to explain to Mummy and Daddy why they’re going out dressed like a terrorist.

FannyCann · 02/04/2023 17:21

That's intriguing @plumbago
There must be interesting conversations going on in the care home!

The elderly alert who read the Telegraph or the Times daily must be up to speed! I had the pleasure of meeting a 101 year old lady a couple of years ago and she was very sharp. Said she had read the Times every day since the 1940's though it wasn't as good as it used to be. Smile
It was before there were regular articles about all this otherwise I'm sure she would have been right on it.

Trans day of invisibility

They’ll be back. They’re bullies, remember, and they knew that there would be lots of people attending this time, so they hid. When they reckon they’ll outnumber women and think nobody is watching they’ll reappear.

Good point. When’s the next one? It’s time I went. If the women speaking always get a huge crowd, and the police do their job, the trans mob won’t be able to silence us.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 02/04/2023 17:33

The next one’s Easter Sunday & Kellie-Jay’s going to be back.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 02/04/2023 17:37

Brilliant

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/04/2023 17:47

On my way back now. I went along after seeing what happened last week. There was a big police presence at the ready but luckily not needed. Perhaps this is what we have to do now. Just keep turning up in bigger and bigger numbers.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 02/04/2023 17:50

I suspect the reason why there was a decent police presence was also because Claire Fox was there.

TidyDancer · 02/04/2023 18:25

I'm really hoping to go to the one at the end of April. I'm so pleased it went well.

There certainly has been a sea change. I've just been talking on the phone to my aged father, who's 96 and lives in a care home - and out of the blue he said, 'Did you see that terrible fracas in New Zealand with Posie Parker, and those dreadful woke police officers?' He's got all his marbles and reads the Daily Telegraph online every day, but never before has he shown any interest in this subject. Now recent events have well and truly peaked him!

I also read the Telegraph online and it constantly delights me with its 'gender critical' articles. Your father can't fail to miss it. The comments are fantastic too.

Lottapianos · 02/04/2023 18:50

Brave, brilliant, wonderful women ❤️

Thank goodness. Last weekend was very upsetting. I was very worried this weekend would escalate.
That murderer/torturer TRA has been at the centre of many of the recent protests. I wonder if they've been told they risk breaching their parole.

The interpretive dance TRA was odd, but it's fine, they have the right to express themselves through the medium of dance.

slowquickstep · 02/04/2023 19:09

It's a good day 💖

fromorbit · 02/04/2023 19:48

Every Sunday Speaker's Corner from now on. KJK is at the next one for Easter.

Amazing success today.

Apparently though there were loads of TRAs at a protest at Elephant and Castle. Maybe they have only enough support to do one mob in London at a time;

April 14th LWS are going to Birmingham as well as doing the London one.

raspberrywine · 02/04/2023 20:09

The Birmingham event is on 14 MAY, not April.

Boiledbeetle · 02/04/2023 20:34

if anyone is thinking of attending but doesn't know what to say...can I suggest a poem from a book of 80 poems written by a lot of people you know.

Let us not forget that Venice Allen is the person who originally got women together years ago to start talking about all this, and who made the suggestion to KJK to get out to Speaker's Corner in the first place.

I’m still sad I didn’t get the Venice Allan & SFW goodie bag I paid for in September 2018 (part of the ticket for the MCR event).

It wasn’t their fault, I was in kids A&E with my daughter at what turned out to be the beginning of her paediatric cancer journey but (thankfully) she’s in remission now and I still think about that goodie bag from time to time!

There must be! My 80 year old mum suddenly went all terven on the phone this week too. I always tended to avoid the topic with her, but she had a good old rant about the situation. I’d had quite a bad week, but when I heard it, I was cheering inside.

DerekFaker · 02/04/2023 21:08

Ahh this is great to see.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/04/2023 21:16

I’ve just realised from listening to one woman speaker that Lesbians who used to have special meeting groups, discos etc now cannot have them because they have to be open to ‘legal’ lesbians.

I presume gay clubs now have to be open to ‘legal’ gay men.

Another reason to write to your MP, especially those who pride themselves on being all about supporting the LGBT ‘community’ about updating the Equality Act.

Maybe, even if they stuff their ears with their fingers about ordinary women’s spaces for fear of not protecting the marginalised minority, they will listen to protect the L&G and push for the debate about updating the Act to make clear that the characteristic sex in the Act is biological, not sex modified by a GRC.

If you have not yet signed the petition to Update the Equality Act, there is still time before it closes on April 20.

Write to your MP about the petition - Sex Matters

The petition to make the Equality Act Clear has reached 100,000 signatures! Now it is time to write to your MP about it.

I was listening from home. It was so fab to see such a supportive crowd. When the transterrorists are there it is such a sensory overload and disorientating. Just nice to listen to the women without the awful noise.
Well done everyone. Women Will Speak.
