If my partner kills me I don't know that him being a transman should be the take away. I would hope the fact he killed me would be the upsetting part. Not that he identifies as a man. If he kills me it's due to some serious mental health issues, not that he has a vagina.

Really??! This thread began because the OP was doubtful about news reports that a woman had carried out a school shooting, given the massive statistical likelihood of males carrying out such attacks. To her astonishment, it appears that the perpetrator was indeed female. And yet it seems that the shooter was indeed transgender, just as the OP had wondered. I don't know what the odds are on that, but it has nothing to do with the despicable NRA.

What about race? Is the race of assailant (UK) regularly given?

A sizeable proportion of people with gender dysphoria also have other mental health issues. Some of those may result in them hurting other people or themselves. Not all of them.

Trans Rights Activists frequently point out levels of self harm amongst people with gender problems, but not so much higher levels of harm to other people

To be fair to the media, news gets published so instantly nowadays that it's not surprising that this was reported so widely as a female crime. The perpetrator was shot dead. They only had appearance to go on. He looked like a woman and was probably physically a woman so it would be reported as a female attacker. It will have taken time for identification and perhaps even a bit longer than that to realise there were transgender issues involved. I don't imagine it means that it will be recorded as a female crime if mtf crimes get recorded as female crimes. They must have the same rule for whichever direction the dysphoria goes in. The reporting will probably correct itself to referring to the attacked by their male name and with male pronouns now that it's been worked out.

I'm very surprised this is the way it's gone. My thoughts were:
there are very few female attackers so it's unlikely to be a woman
there are very few transgender people so it's unlikely to be a man
I couldn't decide which scenario was more unlikely.
But for one of the very few female attackers to also be one the very few transgender people is so unlikely it's mind boggling.
