Yes, transphobic ideology is the problem when trans people leave innocents dead.

WTAF?! Are you trying to justify this atrocity?

MsJD · 28/03/2023 02:08

Nobody deserves to die. I dont think Christians in the UK are particularly transphobic. Many UK churches have a "come as you are" philosophy and dont judge.

Can I ask, do you think people being judgey is the worst transpeople have to face? If not, what is it?

Apologies, I misquoted the wrong post - I meant the one by @MsJD.

At this point you have just jumped the shark.

Rather bizarrely, the first person to jump a shark was Madeline Bassett while aquaplaning in Cannes at the start of PG Wodehouse's 1934 Right Ho, Jeeves. (It becomes a major plot point when her would-be fiance dismisses the shark as being "probably a dogfish".) Unlikely, I know. (Also off topic - sorry!)

I believe @1Week was sarcastically responding to MrsJD!

MyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 28/03/2023 02:35

What is wrong with you people? Six people are dead, including three children and your biggest worry (and gossip) is that the killer is transgender? What possible difference does tht make? The issue at hand is the out of control gun deaths in the U.S., not what gender the person doing the killing is.

Wow! Really?

I’ve always associated it with The Fonz.

every day is a school day!

Fonzie Jumps The Shark (Happy Days, 1977)

The idiom "jumping the shark" was coined in 1985 by Jon Hein in response to a 1977 episode from the fifth season of the American sitcom Happy Days, in which ...

This the sex and gender board.

If you aren’t interested in analysing current news events through the lens of sex and gender, that’s fine.

But it’s the literal purpose of this board.

Tophy124 · 28/03/2023 02:40

Biologically female is what news is reporting here (from the US). FTM and preferred pronouns were he/him. So I believe they were born female and went by male pronouns etc. A disgusting, heartless crime regardless of their gender but unfortunately I fear this news about their gender identity will now play into the hands of those determined to protect their guns at all costs and will be labeled ‘an attack on their faith and way of life.’

MyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 28/03/2023 02:47

Well, it is a stupid purpose for a board. I actually can’t believe there is a forum that is just for being discriminatory against others. It’s awful and you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Get a life. You better hope that one day one of your children don’t come to you and say that they are transgender or some other thing you find offensive.

Check which board you are on. This isn't aibu. It's the corner of mumsnet where sex and gender is the sole purpose of the board you have posted on.

It doesnt mean we are uncaring monsters, but we are discussing the fact that the initial reporting of the shooting said female. This it's an odd crime for a woman to commit. Then transgender was thrown into the reporting, then transwoman then transman.

This is the problem with anyone claiming to be any sex it makes the reporting of crimes confusing. We are not disrespecting the victims and their families and their loss and suffering, but this board is not focused on that element of news items.

BadNomad · 28/03/2023 02:48

This is a gun issue, an America issue, and a mental health issue. Not a bloody trans issue. Trans people aren't notorious for school shootings.

some women on this board have transgender children. So maybe you should go find a board more to your liking because you are not going to be happy on this one.

MyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 28/03/2023 02:51

It’s the corner of Mumsnet where people come to be nasty. I get it. Will purposely avoid it from now on. There is absolutely nothing confusing about reporting of the crime. What possible difference does it make to you what gender the killer is. Does it take away the fact there are children laying dead on the floor of their school? Would it make them automatically come to life if you knew what was between the legs of the person that killed them? Get some perspective.

No it's the corner of mumsnet where women get to put women first and discuss how our rights are being eroded because men with cocks claim to be lesbians.

The perspective is that this is the second transman school shooter in 3 years.
And there has only been 5 other female school shooters in 45 years

Anyone who genuinely cares about the welfare and safety of children is going to want such a startling statistic to be properly explored by criminologists in peer reviewed research.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 28/03/2023 02:57

And if you think it’s a ‘stupid purpose for a board’ please do go start a thread complaining about it in the Site Stuff section.

We didn’t ask for it to be a dedicated board, it was a MNHQ decision.

It's a very worrying statistic that the most recent 2 have both been transmen.

Do you happen to have the dates of the others?

I'm wondering what the gap between them is like on the other three shootings?

mathanxiety · 28/03/2023 03:15

They've been using female pronouns all evening on the news here (US) despite the fact she's stated on SM that her pronouns are male. Her mother called her her 'daughter'.

RIP all those who died. Yet another senseless crime regardless of the perpetrator.

BadNomad · 28/03/2023 03:24

Yeah, but she's female, so no one cares about her wishes or her pronouns. If she had been a transwoman, however, it would be she/her/they/them.

It's very telling.

knitnerd90 · 28/03/2023 03:25

How did you get that the "last two" have been trans people? The case cited upthread was May 2019, nearly 4 years ago. The last shooting was, sadly, only a few days ago near Denver and there are no reports that the shooter was trans.

Unfortunately there are far too many guns and almost as bad, there's now a sort of cycle going on, a social contagion.

Talking about where the shooter is female
