That's all I'm saying - Google is your friend and it's in the byline.

Sex stereotype - women are more compassionate, women are multi-taskers. Men are more aggressive.

Can you provide any evidence (research) to back up women being compassionate and multi-taskers? Surely those are gender stereotypes. Is there any evidence of a biological sex-differentiated basis for either of these? I'm firmly convinced that women being good at multi-tasking is a myth, being a woman who is totally incapable of this.

Men being more aggressive (due to testosterone) I can't argue with - crime statistics show this. This is a biological difference.

I think the multi-task thing was refuted? In any case, what women and men are expected to do affects this. Those who are expected to prepare dinner while minding children at the same time etc. will get better at it because they train at it by having to do it a lot. So if you compare the average woman with children with the average man with children who have a traditional division of labour at home you might find seeming evidence for women being better at multi-tasking, but perhaps not if you compare a single father with a single mother, say, or parents in marriages where chores are shared differently.

A bit like three-dimensional mental rotation skills which are strengthened by the types of games boys typically play and by computer games. Training girls in those skills for just a few weeks showed in one study a reducing gap between boys' and girls' average scores on that skill. And clearly the reason why there are more men in IT is partly due to boys having more access and spending more time with computers than girls, so that they are better at the point of entry to university courses, which will then discourage the girls and so on.

This is the problem, overall, when trying to establish if some skill is innate or not as most skills improve by training and the more sex-segregated young people's upbringing is the more differences they will show partly, at least, due to the training aspect.

@nepeta - absolutely excellent clarification, thank you, so much for such a detailed response.

Yes I kept thinking that I wish Doc Stock could wade in and put us right.

I find it all so fascinating, i also love these boards for sharpening ideas and understanding.

Obviously statistics show that men commit crime more than women especially violent crime . How is it definatly known that this is down to testosterone ? I'm pretty sure noone checks the testosterone levels of a man each time they are arrested . Surely there are people who's behaviour/ aggression is affected way more by drugs or alcohol than their hormone level . I know 2 people that are the most placid people I have ever met but I will go nowhere near when alcohol is involved as both are very aggressive/ dangerous and one of them is a women .just wondering?

There have been quite a lots of studies on it but I’m not really familiar with them. I keep meaning to read Carole Hoover’s book about testosterone (I’ve listened to a couple of podcasts on it but not gonna around to reading it). As I said above though, castration can make dogs more aggressive, so it can’t be as simple as high testosterone = violent and low testosterone = non violent. It’s definitely a factor tho.

Cortisol also seems to be involved and I guess booze and drugs would mess around with cortisol levels?

I used to be married to one of those Jekyll and Hyde drinkers - very laid back and sensible 95% of the time but couldn’t have more than two beers without it escalating into a three day bender where he would give away treasured possessions and fight strangers in pubs. Took him a long time to admit he had a drink problem because he only did it every 6 months or so. He’s been sober for over 5 years now so that’s a positive end to the story!

Testosterone and cortisol levels are linked to criminal behavior, according to new research

New research provides evidence that heightened levels of testosterone and cortisol are associated with a increased risk of impulsive and violent criminal behavior. The new findings have been published in the scientific journal Hormones and Behavior. .....

Disgusting people. How do they become so brainwashed? No other mass shooter would have their actions excused like this.

It is an extreme example of the sacred caste - trans are above reproach whatever they do.

In a word: No.

Respecting the chosen illusion of someone who murdered six people, three of them nine year old children, is not something I support.
