Should prove interesting if he wins the leadership contest and tries to pursue the GRR through court.

'Isla Bryson should not have been in a women's prison ... Isla Bryson is a rapist who is completely at it; I don't think they're a genuine transwoman, I think they're trying to play the system'.

I think some of the debate of “at it” as a phrase is relevant. It’s obviously not very high brow but it’s a also quite a benign phrase as some one up thread said “wee Fergus is at it” kidding on he’s not well enough to go to school.

Harold Shipman wasn’t at it prescribing those old ladies the wrong doses of medication, Fred west wasn’t at it.

It’s a joking phrase used for people who are so plainly having you on, said with a wry smile.

rapists in women’s prisons - well they are just at it! That’s how serious this is to the SNP

It also matters because Yousaf is a politician operating at a level of power enough that he has proposed and written Bills.

His use of language matters. Either he has thought carefully on the subject and chosen his words, (often he just parrots Sturgeons) in which case its instructive, or he's thoughtlessly exposing his underyling feelings.

His words as a politician have power, impact and consequences.

Can I just point out that Humza's "at it" if you move the space by one ironically describes Humza perfectly "a tit"

Hoppinggreen · 17/03/2023 09:26

Bryson wears pink - what more evidence of womanhood do you need?

You jest but that's actually a higher bar of effort and commitment than self ID.

There used to be an easy way to know who was faking it. It was called "transexual" and doctors were very gatekeepy about who went through that medical pathway.

In gender lalaland Bryson is a transwoman. No ifs. No buts.

I really hope every single woman is smart enough to never vote for Humza. I'm so over politicians treating us like 3rd rate citizens.

Well, the Equality Act still refers to transsexuals with regard to people with the protected characteristic of gender reassignment.

I would say the intent was never for gender to be more than the "medical pathway", so the distinction you make is an important one.

The right shade of nail varnish, half-tarantula eyelashes.

But in other good news Humza has apparently been reported to the police for the hate crime - of misgendering

Breaking his own overreaching hate crime law 😅

Sorry Dues, haven't rtft so not sure who you're quoting but seems a good time to point out for that pp:

The distinction they're making is between men pretending to be women and men pretending to be men pretending to be women.

When you realise that, it becomes very clear.

The quote was from Humza, in the clip linked in the OP - a man who seems very likely to be the next Scottish Minister. He is an idiot. There is no valid distinction.

Fake transwomen = transwomen = men

The rapist examples make this blindingly obvious. At least to anyone with an ounce of common sense (so not Humza then).

@ArabellaScott I think we need to be really clear on this. A male criminal who only ever comitted tax fraud, who is mild mannered and pleasant, can still cause alarm, fear, and distress to women who are locked up with him.

This too of course. But we still seem to be at a point where even rapists are considered to be people who can be legitimately placed in women's prisons as long as they are "genuinely" pretending to be women, rather than pretending to be pretending to be women...

Forbes and Regan, who are on the side of women and anti-GRR, have both had a lot of negative press, which Humza (who seems to be the current leadership's favourite) has not. Anyone might think there's a smear campaign going on.

JacquelinePot · 17/03/2023 13:47

Gah, sorry! Formatting made it look like you were quoting someone quoting him.

As you were

That was the original intent. But "gender reassignment" includes everyone regardless of the stage of transitioning they are in. Meaning they could just say that they are a woman but on a waiting list to see someone and technically that is enough.

The entire thing is just awfully put together.

They don't even have to be on a waiting list. Just say that they intend to change gender.

It's like making a law that the only people who can drive a vehicle on the public highway are those with a valid licence and also those who intend to get a licence.

And you can't ask to see their licence, because that would be vanphobic.

Well! Man or woman? At the end of this clip......just throw all the pronouns 'at it'

https://twitter.com/Rachael2Win/status/1650454384503840769?s=20

Neil Gray beclowning himself.

It's disturbing that they can't seem to bring themselves to call a male rapist 'he', to say he's a man. Like it's some sort of blasphemy. Ffs, it isn't literal violence. Just practice saying it in front of a mirror.
