Most stupid centring of men on national women's day

What's the most stupid centring of men you've seen on national women's day. This particularly annoyed me as it is literally centering men with both the messaging and the framing of the male individual.

I haven't got the guts to tell the person that posted it on social media they're an idiot, so will have to content myself with venting here.

It's particularly depressing because she's a bloody teacher and supposedly an intelligent person.

There is a valid point in there, though. How many men had their wives typing up manuscripts and doing that kind of stuff, in the days before there was word processing? Lots. That’s not to say women did not and could not achieve in their own right, but that many did not get the chance because of social norms, and the work they did was not recognised usually. So it’s that old saying of behind every great man is a great woman, I think.

Maybe, but they should have used the opportunity to highlight the women excelling in business and innovation… not thanking women for cooking cleaning childcare to enable a man to be brilliant at Cambridge University. I thought it was outrageous and so did many others! That’s why they took it down

Please come back with the science @ElonsMusky ! I'm going to bed soon (currently 10.10pm UK time) and I'd like a laugh before I turn in!

Findwen · 08/03/2023 22:16

I am sure @ElonsMusky will be right back, but I hope as a man I can clear up everything for you women folk.

“Must a name mean something?” Alice asks Humpty TRAumpty, only to get this answer: “When I use a word… it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.”

MrGHardy · 08/03/2023 22:17

The amount of likes on the tweet about men versus the likes for the tweets about women...

Daisyismynameorisnot · 08/03/2023 22:18

Yawn...come on @ElonsMusky I'm waiting...Hmm

Lizardonachair · 08/03/2023 22:18

It's sad that I am not even shocked anymore. I just feel so angry about this.

drhf · 08/03/2023 22:21

I prefer the line that “Behind every great woman is another great woman”.

And I wore my t-shirt saying that today.

Yes, that is good.

Sleepyquest · 08/03/2023 22:37

Personally I didn't see any bs today and I'm pleasantly surprised!

elgreco · 08/03/2023 22:38

I was asked if I was having a good IW day today by a male contractor (snidely), I launched into a furious rant about how men had taken over, he did agree it was a pile ofshite by the time I was finished.

drhf · 08/03/2023 22:42

My nomination is a big employer which invited two men (not trans women - or trans men - just men-identified men) as its in-house IWD speakers today.

When someone senior (not me) questioned this decision, the EDI team stood their ground and claimed there is "research" to show the best way to promote "gender equality" is for men to do it. Um... Citation needed?

Beowulfa · 09/03/2023 08:25

In yesterday's Metro their full page 60 second interview was with a transwoman drag queen. Double womanface on IWD- outstanding effort.

I'm just here for the science bit.

MollochTheCorrupter · 09/03/2023 08:56

It's ok. I educated myself and found out it's very scientific. Star maths and wishy thinking.

To be fair, I'm not immune to ignorance. The first time I heard the word bigotry was in Harry Potter when Hermione is talking about how wizards hate giants. In my young mind I made the link big/bigotry and thus assumed it was a term to describe hatred of people of height like Hagrid.

It took a few years and a red face to realise I had oversimplified a tad.

Something else to blame Rowling for though, eh?

That has tickled me.
😂😂

Shock horror, the TRA never came back! Who would have guessed it

I think I'd like to know how they're defining "gender equality" there. Doesn't sound very equal if voices of women aren't respected on our own day to centre us.

Random789 · 09/03/2023 10:02

On the upside, I was pleased to see that the Guardian pulled the stops out yesterday with a lot of stories about the many fucking catastophes that are affecting women in the UK and across the world while we all dance about in denial of their existence as a discrete and politically significant category.

It was positive because it made me feel that the Guardian is waking up to how badly they have let women down. But of course it was also horrifying to have so much evidence of disadvance collected together.

It brought home just how completely society underplays or disappears women's status as a victimised group, how severely misogynistic you have to be in order to retain this fiction of women as privileged and powerful. (Privileged and powerful like a rabbit that is allowed to run away even though the fox wants to eat it.)

I am picturing Musky, wild-eyed and tussle-haired, sitting at their keyboard as the dawn breaks, surrounded by half-drunk cups of coffee and empty crisp packets and muttering 'the science must be here somewhere' as they open page 842 on the google search for 'how men become ladies'.
