Scotland PIE and LGB research thread

I wanted to research how PIE was eventually exposed as a child abusers lobby group and how it went from being influential and widely endorsed by groups such as Liberty and even feminists such as Harriet Harman, etc, to being reviled, quashed and the word ‘paedo’ becoming synonymous with child abuser.

I started with Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paedophile_Information_Exchange and my hairs stood on end, when I discovered right away that “PIE was set up as a special interest group within the Scottish Minorities Group” and “in 1969, it was the country's first LGBT rights organisation.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outright_Scotland and both were founded by Ian Dunn. This suggests that historically in Scotland, gay rights activism and child abuser lobbying have been very closely entwined.

The reason for the uncanny feeling, is because, on reading Trans Britain, I was disturbed to discover that James Morton joined a group of activists who had lobbied for amendments to the Sex Offenders Bill 1996 (around the age of consent) and called themselves The LGB Equality Network. This group strongly pushed the T at the expense of safeguarding.

Also, the fact that LGBT Youth Scotland (established in November 1989 as the Stonewall Youth Project by members of the LGBT community in Edinburgh.) has such a culture of child [redacted word which rhymes with looming]

This takes a huge amount of getting your head around doesn’t it?

There’s the stuff about giving false leads to obscure a the actual ring, and there is all the financial goings on Hein’s scam ripping off British Telecom. It gives the impression of a lack of moral compass.

Nope, I'm sorry I don't have any more to give about that part of the timeline. I can't say how I got interested in this in the 90's without potentially outing myself.
Hein is almost like 2 people. To some he's the larger than life mentor/editor/activist who's aim in life is to further gay rights. But at the same time he's a conman/scammer/money launderer. His address was used right up until his death as a home for dozens of shell companies.
In Hein's defence his magazine does piss off a lot of people so maybe the suggestions of criminality is just the media getting their own back. In which case we're wrong and we've been taken in by a petty squabble. Possible.
Or Hein used the emergent LGBT organisations to launder money, he's scamming the LGBT community as much as anyone else?
I honestly don't know which it is or how it works. Ideas on a postcard....

[A]nd both were founded by Ian Dunn.

Of course, Peter Tatchell wrote Ian Dunn's obituary...:
www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/obituary-ian-dunn-1151494.html

I just read this obituary now. This I found interesting:

In 1974, he and Derek Ogg convened the International Gay Rights Congress in Edinburgh - the first post-war conference of homosexual emancipation movements from around the world. This congress led to the formation of the International Lesbian & Gay Association (Ilga). Now a global federation of 400 gay rights groups in 60 countries, Ilga has played a pivotal role in getting gay equality recognised as a human rights issue in international forums such as the United Nations and the Council of Europe.

This makes me wonder about ILGA.. A paedophile at their heart.

Dunn also played an important role in launching Britain's first national gay newspaper, Gay News, in 1972, and was for many years editor of Gay Scotland magazine. He co-founded the Edinburgh Gay & Lesbian Community Centre in 1974, the oldest centre of its kind in Britain.

I can’t help thinking the lesbians in that community centre were the unwitting beards for the paedophile network.

Ian Dunn was a long-time Labour Party and trade union activist (in Nalgo and Unison), who hoped to win selection as a Labour candidate for the Scottish Parliament. A planning officer with Edinburgh Council until he took early retirement

So he was hoping to be a Scottish Labour MSP…

And the man murdered in Prague who shared an address with Hein was standing for the Lib Dems. Disclosure Scotland on the BBC did a documentary recently about the Magic Circle, quite a difficult watch. It's on iplayer.

The magic circle is also as clear as mud. However there is something in that Herald story about hostels for young men. I'm wondering if Dunn, Hein etc were the procurers/groomers for the lawyers. Sorry this makes no sense unless you've seen the documentary.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2021: ILGA-EUROPE STATEMENT ON GENDER

ILGA-Europe is issuing this statement at a time when we see more and more actors disputing the very notions of gender, gender identity and gender expression, and seeking to position biology and social construct at odds with one another, where biology has more importance. We are witnessing a deeply worrying rise of voices from individuals and organisations which are denying the human rights and dignity of trans people and non-binary people.

I'm going to go now as I think people should make up their own minds about what thus means. What I would really, really like to know is what these fuckers or their inheritors are up to now.

I can’t believe John Watt QC was only prosecuted last August!

Thanks for this, EndlessTea.

I usually just read, but I'm getting on this thread so I don't lose it, because I think these links are going to be very important.

Greycats · 22/02/2023 17:09

Jaysus I've just read the Rangers thread again. Are they really suggesting that MH and JR were business partners because if that's true then why isn't that a massive scandal?

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 22/02/2023 17:35

I dunno - obvs they are talking amongst themselves and not expecting a hoard of lurking Mumsnetters.
I imagine they’d be amenable to some direct contact though - after all, we’re all on the same team here, trying to stop paedos accessing kids and helping survivors of CSA to hold paedos accountable for historic offences.

When you think about the money ScotGov has given these ostensibly LGBT orgs over the years it gets really murky.

I feel like we need a name for our Paedos of interest that doesn’t use the normal letters - the LGBT stuff is just as an opportunistic as the sports coach stuff, paedos gonna paedo wherever they can.

Greycats · 22/02/2023 17:43

I hear you about LGBT being a vehicle and also victims. This is about opportunistic criminals taking advantage of decent well meaning people. Any ideas for an alternative way to refer to these creeps?

Basically, James Rennie and Martin Henry founded LBGT Youth Scotland, here you have it, he is heading up the investigation.

MH did resign from LGBT Youth Scotland 2 years before JR

This is dark.

Those poor lads.
Who the fuck appointed Martin Henry to that role in the SFA CSA report?

And who decided to limit it to just cases involving looked-after children?

Greycats · 22/02/2023 18:17

Although it's theoretically possible that he was inspired to do child protection work by his time at LGBT youth? I think there has to be more than coincidence.

There is a lot of coincidences in Scotland, it would appear.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/02/2023 18:36

I've been reading this thread and I don't know if this is relevant. I followed a bbc link from the feminism chat thread and notice a headline about a woman whose father taught at the Edinburgh Academy, where he abused the students. I wondered if there was a connection with the stuff discussed on this thread.

Her father was Hamish Dawson, he left the school under a cloud (allegedly pornography found in his desk) and moved to Cheltenham where he performedas Santa in Christmas grottos. He never suffered any repercussions for his paedophilia and died without facing justice.

One of his victims was the journalist Nicky Campbell. I found this tweet, apparently Cheltenham had PIE connections. Campbell's tweet is just above the one I've linked.

The tweet thread by Dame Alun Roberts is worth a look, I've not had time to read it all myself.

This article from the Daily Record is astounding, 9 abusers working at the school at the same time!
