Despite everything that has happened over the past few days;

Ben Bradshaw
''A warm welcome for @ Keir_Starmer as he recommits to reforming the UK’s out of date gender recognition process at tonight’s @ LGBTLabour @ LGBTHM
reception in Parliament''

If you look at the big picture according to best available evidence, improvements in trans rights go hand in hand with improvements in women's lives.

That is the reality. That is the uncomfortable fact for people on FWR.
People can point out anecdotes all they like, the reliable and robust big picture statistical evidence is that improvements in trans rights go hand in hand with improvements in women's lives.

People entrenched on both sides view this as a zero-sum game. They could not be more wrong.

In the words of JKR - citation needed. Let's have the evidence, proper peer reviewed evidence @suggestionsplease1

Out of interest, what else could be done to reform it other than self ID? The tories have already made it virtually free and put it online. I'm struggling to think of other ways it can be reformed.

I would like to see the GRA repealed — a shifty, dishonest bit of legislation, apparently passed as a sop to those who wanted same-sex marriage. (Though I don’t know anyone who would change their gender in order to marry.)

If not repealed, it should be amended to make clear that none of the concessions to trans people outweigh women’s single-sex rights or child safeguarding issues

Please sign this petition to update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic ‘sex ‘ is biological.

This would make it easier for organisations to provide sex-based, safe, and dignified services and spaces for girls and women without the fear of law suits on the basis of ‘legal’ sex counting as sex - which in practice allows for any man to be included.

Define trans, define rights.

What statistical evidence?

Who are the women whose lives are being improved? Where?

You aren’t even suggesting causation, just vaguely implying correlation, without even supplying evidence if that.

Thanks ScrollingLeaves, have signed

That’s great. It would be so good if it gets the 1000,000 signatures before 20th April as then the Government will consider a debate.

I wonder how the evidence of emerging scandals will play with Starmer? He has a reputation for presiding over an organisation that ignored the abuse of children (the CPS). Presumably being i/c of a political party that ignores the abuse of children must be a very comfortable place for him:

Newtonsnipple · 12/02/2023 18:45

How is Keir this dense?

Even TRUMP gets it!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/02/2023 18:57

How is he this dense? He's made a calculated decision that "trans rights" will reign supreme. He didn't do what women do and look behind the surface to keep ourselves and children safe.

He's a man so he took at face value all the males with AGP who insisted they just wanted to pee with women. He believed that the same actors in the trans activist groups innocently wanted to share the joy of their transitions with everyone's children in schools. And accepted that removing women, our language & single sex spaces was a small price to pay to include the stunning and brave white males everywhere they wanted to be.

garlickybuns · 12/02/2023 19:11

@MrsOvertonsWindow i think your paragraph here about sums it up sadly:

TheABC · 12/02/2023 20:24

The Head of Stonewall said he was "having conversations" with Starmer and it's interesting that he used exactly the same language as Sturgeon for the prisons issue.

Starmer's aware. He has just made the calculation that it's politically expedient to ignore the issue in public.

He also indicated that he'd left the Tories for Labour.
My guess is it's yet another deal done behind closed doors as seen in the Denton's report. Two influential men ignoring the grooming and gaslighting of mainly vulnerable girls (as exposed in the Times today) in favour of their mates and their desires.

Yes, government by Stonewall.

Happylittlechicken · 12/02/2023 22:41

how? How will allowing males into female spaces improve womens lives @suggestionsplease1 ? How will letting males compete in womens sports benefit women? Which women? Will in benefit women in Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Uganda, China?

Itisbetter · 12/02/2023 22:50

So one less option when I’m choosing who to vote for.

It takes some cheek to write this hand in hand shit.

Are we supposed to believe this gaslighting bs that pretending men are women improves womens lives or what.

What actually is hand in hand?

ScrollingLeaves · 13/02/2023 00:17

Mitigate Kier Starmer’s proposed self -ID by updating the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic sex is biological, not sex as modified by a GRC.

I was just checking in to see if @suggestionsplease1 had provided the evidence for this fanciful assertion but, as usual, answer came there none.

SinnerBoy · 13/02/2023 16:10

...as usual, answer came there none.

Well, that's because, as we all know, there is no such data.

GailBlancheViola · 13/02/2023 18:41

I live in the vague hope that once, just once we'll get the answers to the questions, the evidence and the data @SinnerBoy it's not much to ask but it never happens.

0Oo · 13/02/2023 18:46

Political parties seldom garner votes from policies that voters are vehemently against.

Why would they push for self-id if it would cause a defeat at the polling station?

0Oo · 13/02/2023 18:49

Given what seems to be the opinion of most people on this forum, I'll just throw this in to create some balance:

Happylittlechicken · 13/02/2023 18:59

@ooo er…. Um…. What is that supposed to be? Shall we do a brief history of the misogynistic, sexist, abusive gender ideology next?

What are you going to post next? A history of the evilness of the anti gun lobby published by the National Rifle Association?
