I know it's a Mail link but I've not seen it up anywhere else yet:

Rishi Sunak wades into trans debate saying 'biological sex matters'

Glad to see him taking a clear position.

I think it is very important that the British Prime Minister is stating this clearly and without hesitation or caveat
I don't, as I think he's just saying whatever he thinks will get people voting and jumped on the latest "culture war" topic.
Pitting people against each other, blaming others for everything that's going wrong, instead of looking inwards and maybe trying to fix things
Just like one who fairly recently started going on about the "tofu eating wokerati brigade "🙄 (can't remember who said it without googling)
Also the "I have a dream" speech about sending people to Rwanda.
Blame everyone else, make a "boogieman" to make a common "enemy".
That's how it seems to me, anyway

radrado · 02/02/2023 23:10

That’s why Conservatives keep getting voted in, they listen, bend and change with public opinion. Unlike Labour who just patronise the public and tell us we need to think like they tell us to.

Oh and how many non-white or female leaders has Labour had? Talk a big game don’t they..

PerkingFaintly · 02/02/2023 23:21

At last.

We've waited... how many years for the Tory Prime Minister to actually say this?

It's clear he's cruising in after letting the Nicola Sturgeon take the heat about male sex offenders being put in women's prisons. But good to hear from him none the less.

Now let's see what he actually does.

lechiffre55 · 02/02/2023 23:23

Right now I hope those pollster bean counter types are in two different offices giving the news to Sunak and Starmer of how Sunak coming out for women's rights has given the Tories a nice bump in the polls.
I hope Sunak has a little smile that it's not quite as bad in the polls for the Tories as it was yesterday. I hope Sunak in his mind is thinking more of this supporting women's rights and we might not get the world's worst kicking at the next election. I want Sunak to push for women's rights even if it's only to save his own ass. I don't care why, only that he does it.
Similarly in an office across london I hope Starmer is there sitting stony faced as the pollsters tell him Labour's lead is dwindling, and if it keeps up instead of a great victory he's heading into a hard fought race he might lose. I want Starmer to shit himself and wonder if he's made the wrong decisions. I want Starmer to worry if he keeps giving women's rights away that he might lead labour into another defeat despite being so far ahead in the polls at one point. I want him to really think about why. I want Starmer to stop being such a wet blanket fence sitting milquetoast and grow an effing spine and get some principals. I want Starmer to lie awake at night thinking "Did I really make the right decision on giving away women's rights?"
I don't care why either leader supports females, I just want them to do it. Even if it's only to try and get in power I want them to stand up for women. Stop giving away women's rights!
The specific language that Sunak used of "adult human female" gives me hope. That's a very specific phrase coming for a very specific place. A lot of debate will have happened behind closed doors about how to phrase Sunak's message on the topic. I believe the choice of the words "adult human female" is to try and send as strong a message as possible about where the Tories stand on this issue.

Tinkerbyebye · 02/02/2023 22:03

So? Better that Starmer and Nicola who don’t give a shit about woman. He, at least, has had the courage to say this, unlike the other two who are happy to throw women under the bus

I can’t vote Tory….I just couldn’t bring myself to do that. But I’m not sure I can vote for Labour either. I have voted Labour in every GE since I was able to vote. But my MP is Nadia Whittome. I voted for her in 2019 but I won’t vote for her in the next GE.

Has it actually given them a bump? Have you got a link for that?

If you read what I wrote you will encounter the words "I hope" at least four times, and "I want" at least eight times.
Those are clues that I am expressing my hopes and desires not reporting facts.

PennyToffee · 02/02/2023 22:02

What fools you are. You honestly think Rishi gives a shit about this?

They have spin doctors for this very reason.

These women are not fools. Save your insults for the politicians who cling to a batshit ideology, even if they know it’s a lie, even if they know most of the population knows it’s a lie.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/02/2023 23:33

Who would like to help persuade him to back up his views with action, to show he means this?

Please consider signing and sharing this Parliamentary petition to update the Equality Act to make I’m clear that the characteristic ‘sex ‘ is biological sex.

Ah ok yes on rereading can see that you did say you hoped and it wasn't fact 🙂
It's clearly my bedtime 😁

Youpillock · 02/02/2023 23:39

It's come to something when all we have to praise a politician for is stating the bleedin obvious.

JacquelinePot · 02/02/2023 23:47

Mr Prime Minister you are correct; now please do something about it!

Labour ushered in the dreadful legislation but it's the tories who have overseen the implementation of all these myriad attacks on women's rights. Get it sorted!

They have spin doctors for this very reason.

But then again, what fools the faux-progressive parties have been of late, either actively shitting on women or in some sort of funk.
No idea wtf their spin doctors are playing at.

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2023 23:48

I am pretty certain Rishi believes it. Still won't be voting for him though.

skilpadde · 02/02/2023 23:53

It's an improvement on what he was prepared to say out loud last March.

Back then, when asked what a woman is, he said "The PM answered this perfectly, I agree with him."

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2023 23:57

I think the tide is turning. People are tired of being kind. Labour had better get with the tide.

Wellies54 · 03/02/2023 00:05

Now is the moment for Keir to state the truth. It will be hard to break with the gender ideologists and they'll shout a lot but it's now or never. Public opinion would be on his side. If he keeps trying to sit on the fence he'll end up looking like a fool. It's so ridiculous, I mean Rishi Sunak probably believes in gravity and that the Earth isn't flat too. Doesn't mean we have to agree with his policies.

Needmoresleep · 03/02/2023 00:07

This should never have been a party political issue. Sex is a biological fact.

Both Stamer and Sunak had successful careers before entering politics. Both have wives and daughters. Furthermore both have wives who are religiously observant in religions that recognise biological fact (Judaism and Hinduism) and are raising their children in these religions.

Nothing in Rishi's statement is out of line with what most men with wives and daughters would say, completely regardless of political leaning.

So what is Stamers problem. Why can he just say what he almost certainly believes, and what he presumably wants for his own family.

(I hope his wife decides to vote following her own beliefs including the importance of safeguarding for women and girls. I can't imagine being married to a man who would deny my biological reality.)

HappyAlley · 03/02/2023 00:12

I’ve never seen a more insincere parroting of something that yes, a spin doctor, has told him to say to gain votes.

does it matter if the message is out there? I dunno. I mean, at least he answered the question, even if he was spoon fed the answer.

Obviously still never voting Tory tho’

IceyDicey · 03/02/2023 00:12

FOJN · 02/02/2023 22:17

Yes you're right, it's a serious moral failing for a politician to listen to the electorate and try to win an election. Presumably Labour aren't pursuing a similar strategy because they value ideological purity over votes.

Rishi is a politician listening to the female electorate to get their votes. and doing the right thing It’s exactly what a good politician should do.
Why labour spends their time calling us bigots and and isolating their one decent MP, Rosie Duffield and expects our vote is beyond me.

Labour has a woman problem and I do not trust them to get their house in order and out of Stonewall clutches any time soon.

fromorbit · 03/02/2023 00:13

Every time someone famous talks about this things get better. Now it is terrible he didn't have the guts to say it when JKR first spoke up or when other women did earlier. However he has been speaking out on this for the last few years though. As for the recent UK polls... you can see them here :
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_United_Kingdom_general_election
Dec 22 The Bill passed in Scotland

Jan 16 The Tories announced Section 35,

25 Jan 2023 Bryson convicted.
There has been a small Tory bump recently but it isn't huge and may just be temporary. There will be a dedicated Scottish poll in mid feb that will one to watch as the SNP will panic if it shows a drop.

Sunak could be doing more but it keeps issue alive and signals it will be something discussed in 24 election

InterestingUsernameTBC · 03/02/2023 00:19

All the Tories need to do to win votes is point out what Labour believe on this issue because if you get Labour politicians giving their answer to what is a woman they're going to look like raving lunatics.

How on Earth do they expect the ordinary voter on the street to trust the economy to a party that thinks it's perfectly reasonable for a woman to have a penis? The Tories would be absolute fools not to use this as an election strategy. It's a gift!

And if Labour want to avoid it being a 'culture war' issue then they should just come up with some sensible policies on the matter.

Oh, I just LOVE these patronising sugary posts. Helpfully pointing out how daft us poor wee lambs are.

I don’t care if a spin doctor has prompted him in this direction. The more politicians that state this, the better.

Yes, Rishi. Good man.

Well, they've lost over the last few days

if they say they are they are.
Acceptance without exception,
TWAW
you can't misgender,
No trans woman is a predator
that will never happen
No one would go to all that trouble to pretend to be a woman
Transwomen are the most vulnerable.

From their arguments.

So now we are stupid for believing the prime minister of the country. I mean Christ if it was Boris they'd have a point! Anyway wether he means it or not it's on record he's said it. He knows Labour women are politically homeless. And he's an intelligent man with daughters.

I'll use my judgement over certain posters.
