I know it's a Mail link but I've not seen it up anywhere else yet:

Rishi Sunak wades into trans debate saying 'biological sex matters'

Glad to see him taking a clear position.

What fools you are. You honestly think Rishi gives a shit about this?

As far as the protection of women's rights is concerned? God no,of course not. But I bet he does believe it. They all do really. And the more people who admit that, the better, whatever their motives.

He's been told to say he believes it. I'd hazard a guess he'd say he believed the sky was green if it got him a few votes and let's face it, he hasn't got much else.

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 02/02/2023 22:07

Excellent. As for ‘saying it for votes’ well possibly, but I am prepared to bet he truly believes that a woman is an adult human female.

And I am also prepared to bet Starmer is saying TWAW for votes, but doesn’t truly believe it especially after the last 2 weeks.

Which is why I don’t trust Labour on this.

MarshaBradyo · 02/02/2023 22:08

Sarah2891 · 02/02/2023 22:07

I agree, he might not care about it but I'm sure he fully believes it.

You have to be beholden to something quite nuts to not believe it. It’s simple plain English

HolibobsinApril · 02/02/2023 22:08

I almost feel dirty that I agree so highly with a Tory!! 🤣🤣

You trust the Tories?

Oh my.

Lapland123 · 02/02/2023 22:10

It’s really good that he says this and recognises this

now if he could stop his party fleecing the people of the country via massive taxes and minimal public services by lining their own pockets, that’d be a great next step

They have spin doctors for this very reason.

This. When will people learn, that these people will say anything to cling to power.

Andrelaxzz · 02/02/2023 22:10

The Tories know it is a popularist vote winner. They do not give a fuck about women. Not saying Labour are any better. But don't be fooled by slimy Sunak.

Remind me what Labour's spin doctors are doing again? Don't worry, I found it

I think Rishi has daughters. He probably does not want penises invading their private spaces or competing against them in sports. I am so sick of transwomen invading female spaces. Two weeks ago I went to swimming pool at my gym and in female communal changing room there was a transwomen. I just saw him as soon as I entered, turned around and went home. First time I'd seen him there. I told reception on way out I was disgusted an adult person with a penis was allowed in a female only changing room when a male child of 8 years is not allowed in. I told them I would not be renewing my membership again too. I have been a member for 14 years and last year paid almost £3k for membership.

The point about politicians is they say things "for votes". Because if we like what they say, we will vote for them. That's how democracy works. If we don't like what they say we vote for someone else.

We have been campaigning for politicians to say this, and some have, some haven't. Now RS has and I' delighted.

shard5 · 02/02/2023 22:13

It's all very well him saying the right things but this issue has gone out of hand whilst his party are in government.
It's too little too late and hes only saying it now to deflect attention from all the bullying and fraud claims against his MPs. This is what the headlines will talk about tomorrow so the Raab and the Zahawi issue will became chip wrapping.
Gosh I feel as if the Tories have made us all into cynics but I can't help feeling there's a reason he's coming out with this now and it's not because of Nicola sturgeon or the Scottish prison issue.

Octopusmittens · 02/02/2023 22:13

Good for him, he gets my vote.

LadyKenya · 02/02/2023 22:10

Why can’t Labour say it plainly? What is holding them back? They seem tied to lies for zero reason

And how much of a vote winner is it really, posters on here always going on about no one cares that much

It seems the same posters go on about it’s nothing and it’s a populist vote winner

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 02/02/2023 22:13

Well hopefully Labour’s spin doctors will say - look, don’t give the Tories ground on this, you have badly misread the public on this one. Drop self-ID, commit to single sex sports and prisons.

Then the battleground moves to hospitals and RSE lessons.

What they say for votes and what they actually do when they have those votes are completely different things.

How can you not know this?

NearlyMidnight · 02/02/2023 22:15

@caringcarer - that's really upsetting. I can imagine feeling shocked and embarrassed. And I wouldn't want my daughter there.

No shit, Sherlock. What’s important is that he’s saying it, loudly and publicly, not whether he believes it. I’m willing to bet he does believe it since he has daughters and a brain though. I’m sure of it were politically expedient to say otherwise or to keep silent, he would do so, but the important thing is that he’s saying it and this forcing others to take a position. You’re the fool for believing that doesn’t matter.

FOJN · 02/02/2023 22:17

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 02/02/2023 21:55

He's saying it for votes though not because he cares about women's rights.

He cares about his legacy and not getting the biggest kicking at the polls in history

Yes you're right, it's a serious moral failing for a politician to listen to the electorate and try to win an election. Presumably Labour aren't pursuing a similar strategy because they value ideological purity over votes.

Fluffymule · 02/02/2023 22:18

Both Sunak and Starmer know and believe that Woman are adult human females and that humans can not change sex, that no man can become a woman either by identification or medical procedure.

Sunak is prepared to say this publicly, unreservedly and on record.

Starmer is not.

Maybe after the disastrous blowback on Nicola Sturgeon this past week, and the subsequent overwhelming evidence that the voting general public do not support her Gender Ideology policies like Self Id, Starmer will now grow a spine, drop his dishonesty and follow Sunak's lead.

The problem Starmer has is just how much content out there, on record, in embarrassing and shameful detail, needs to be rowed back on by members of the Labour front bench. Stuff like Lisa Nandy insisting that 'trans' rapists should go into prisons 'of their choosing'.

AlliwantforChristmasisgu · 02/02/2023 22:19

When two parties say it then we will have the luxury to choose which one we think may be better for women’s rights in general. But when only one says it I have no choice. I will never vote for a party that wants self ID.

Ohifyouinsist · 02/02/2023 22:20

LadyKenya · 02/02/2023 22:10

This. When will people learn, that these people will say anything to cling to power.

But the Labour party refuse to say it, and allow their MPs to heckle and abuse the tiny number of colleagues who are brave enough to say it. If the Tories are only saying it for votes, why aren't Labour doing the same? Cowardly fuckers.

FOJN · 02/02/2023 22:20

What fools you are. You honestly think Rishi gives a shit about this?

He probably cares about this issue as much as I care about his motives for saying it but someone needs to and at this point I'm not particularly fussy who it is.

HighWindows1 · 02/02/2023 22:22

Douglas Ross promised all Scottish Conservatives Councillors would be working to ensure single sex facilties are available in all Scottish public buildings including schools. He said this prior to the last council elections. Now that's other the councillors are doing fuck all.

They just say it so you'll elect them. But until they demonstrate they're actually going to act on it I won't fall for it again.

NearlyMidnight · 02/02/2023 22:22

@PennyToffee - please - no need to be rude. We all know politics is complex and how they parties get into power, who supports them, who finances them, who lobbies and what they can and can't do are all affected by multiple, constantly changing factors. They get us to vote for them - and we do, (or don't), - and we do that based on what they say or what we believe they will do, (based on past experience and other things). And if, like you, people don't think the politicians will do what they say - then they won't vote for them.
