The committee is still led by Caroline Nokes who is an ardent genderist.

Some of the committee members seem to be new. Does anyone know their viewpoints on sex and gender?

I think we can guess what Jamie Wallis’ views are.

DFSsale · 30/01/2023 16:31

This should be interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

I think we can guess what Jamie Wallis’ views are.

But while I do wonder whether he was brought in as a way to try and stifle debate - as in how can you be SO MEAN as to say people can't change sex / men can't be women / women can't be men / non binary is nonsense, when an actual man who calls himself trans is sitting there.

A bot of a go on, then, I dare you type situation.

I don't doubt that Naomi Cunnigham is more than able to get her points across calmly and sensitively.

It will be interesting to see RMW's contributions. Robin has had a few goes at the topic recently, I wonder whether Robin will give a straight answer when asked. I shall assume not.

IwantToRetire · 30/01/2023 16:41

Thanks for this. Not sure I can listen but hopefully can catch up later in the day.

Though no doubt someone on FWR will do a quick and to the point summary!

So it seems like out of a committee of 11 members, 7 are on record supporting self-ID and the leader is an outspoken proponent of self-ID. Hardly seems fair for a committee with "women" in the title.

Caroline Nokes - genderist/self-ID

I wonder if Jamie Wallis will be sat there proudly as a transwoman in his suit and tie, using male pronouns.
RMW will be there proudly wearing a dress and using female pronouns.
I wonder if anyone watching will look at these two transwomen as ask themselves what exactly makes them trans?

How are these committees chosen? Do interested MPs put themselves forward? Or are they invited and if so by whom? And if too many who chooses who sits on it? Seems like a way for interested parties to manipulate Parliament.

ArabellaScott · 30/01/2023 20:11

Carolyn Harris - works a lot on menopause. Looks like she once supported Julie Bindel when Julie was attacked, but then deleted.

Dinenage seems waffly TWAW, according to this thread.

Pretty heavily stacked deck in favour of self ID. Hmm.

Imnobody4 · 30/01/2023 23:16

Elliot Colburn is co chair of the LBGT+ APPG and friends with Crispin Blunt.
I find the membership depressing, not sure if I can face watching to be honest.
I think the GC witnesses will more than hold their own though.

NancyDrawed · 31/01/2023 15:25

Bumping as this has just started

Ameanstreakamilewide · 31/01/2023 15:28

Her voice isn't as nice as the 'Waiting for the conference host to join' chap.

DFSsale · 31/01/2023 15:33

I’m listening in.
Dr Foran is a very interesting chap. He’s too smart to be caught out with some of these questions, and clearly knows his subject.

NancyDrawed · 31/01/2023 15:34

Maya has just arrived in the session as an observer!

PoliticalFootball · 31/01/2023 15:35

Coooeeee Maya 😁

GreenUp · 31/01/2023 15:36

Is anyone watching, the questioners are so biased.

Ms Anum Qaisar gives Lord Falconer lots of time to give his legal view on the use of Section 35 (he's a genderist) and then starts asking Dr Foran (feminist side) if "trans rights are human rights" and does he agree with Theresa May that "being trans should never be seen as an illness.

Dr Foran is there as a Public Law expert on uses of Section 35 but the questions are just being used to frame him as "anti-trans".

They are always really biased in their approach in these sessions

Blister · 31/01/2023 15:39

I do believe Theresa May should be dragged into this. She was the first to sell women down the river for political gain.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 31/01/2023 15:39

Beautiful top Maya's wearing. Lovely Suffragette colours.

She gets to simply bugger off into the sunset and all her after dinner speaking engagements.

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 31/01/2023 15:47

Who is the extremely rude woman with too much make up on tapping her pen as Naomi is speaking?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 31/01/2023 15:50

I could listen to Naomi read out the telephone book.

DFSsale · 31/01/2023 15:51

Is this MP a SNP one? Her manner with Naomi is completely different to her questioning of the blokes.

MrsJamin · 31/01/2023 15:53

Who is the woman doing the 'whataboutery'? She's maddening.
