Sturgeon has accused some opponents to her GRR Bill of being "homophobic and racist" as well as "transphobic"

Twitter thread. Interview out shortly.

twitter.com/ginadavidsonlbc/status/1618903941537841153

'there are people who have opposed this bill that cloak themselves in women's rights to make it acceptable but just as they're transphobic you'll also find that they're deeply misogynist, often homophobic, possibly some of them racist as well'

I don't care what they call us.

Men cannot be women. End of.

ResisterRex · 27/01/2023 10:19

Amazing. Calling all voters homophobic and transphobic - and not even on a hot mic!! Can't see that ending well.

ArabellaScott · 27/01/2023 10:20

I shall add her weaselly caveat, for completeness:

'that's not everybody who opposes this bill. I want to be very clear about that'

'it will be interesting to see how many of the so-called defenders of women's rights in the context of the trans debate suddenly don't think that all women's rights are actually important. And there are some people that I think have decided to use women's rights as a sort of cloak of acceptability to cover up what is transphobia.'

I should have copied the whole thread out, I've just buggered up the order, now!

It's all in the link in the OP, anyway.

<dons cloak of acceptability>

<vanishes with a flourish of ribbons>

It is the exact DARVO and Reverse Forced Teaming we have come to know and indeed, love, here on the FWR board.

The First Minister told Lewis Goodhall that as a "geneal principle someone who rapes a woman should not be in a women's prison" but says there's a "danger with a blanket approach because you catch cases that you shouldn't"

I'm sorry, what??

There's a danger that you might accidentally put a nice rapist in the men's estate when he'd really prefer to be in with the women?

How is she still in post?

NancyDrawed · 27/01/2023 10:24

*general

(I copy/pasted the typo!!)

Anactor · 27/01/2023 10:25

It’s full-on ‘people disagree with me because they’re eeeeevuuuulll’, isn’t it?

"Yes, probably one, perhaps two antis aren't like that...."

Ye gods! If you are not capable of drawing up legislation properly then move over and let someone else do the job.

If a rapist is wearing a blanket approach as a cloak of respectability, then the women are still wrong.

I think I got that right.

She really can't see how this looks to the majority of people can she.

Soubriquet · 27/01/2023 10:30

I have a husband and female partner. In the same relationship.

I am 100% not homophobic. I’m not racist.

They can call me transphobic if they must because I don’t and I will never believe men can be women

Rightsraptor · 27/01/2023 10:37

She's desperately fighting to survive politically.

Let's hope she doesn't.

WinterTrees · 27/01/2023 10:38

"Yeah, some of the people who don't agree with me are homophobic and racist and they don't recycle and they use their mobiles in the quiet carriage. Probably. And they probably have BO."

ArabellaScott · 27/01/2023 10:38

I think we're watching the start of the slide, Rightsraptor.

She was on the wane anyway, but this is scrabbling.

It’s mind-blowingly obvious in this context, yes, because of the insanity of the current situation.

But actually this is continuity Sturgeon. This is what joyous and civic nationalism has been like since before the 2014 referendum.

littlbrowndog · 27/01/2023 10:44

She’s always very clear about things

🤣🤣🤣🤣

ArabellaScott · 27/01/2023 10:46

I'm sure she's technically correct, given that the majority of the population is opposed to her GRR bill, that among that huge number of people there are people with some views that aren't nice.

I don't see it's a winning argument politically, though. 'Yous are all just horrible bastards'.

OP posts:
nilsmousehammer · 27/01/2023 10:55

Oh I can't wait to see the explanation of the homophobia accusation.

Because I'll bet she's using the twisted up and ideologised version that identifies as homophobia and actually means 'a homosexual person said gender identity doesn't change sex and refused to provide sex according to a TQ+ person's chosen identity'.

Fuck that Nicola. That ferret's going to have to be reversed too. You've been the one busily supporting the 'no good woman is homosexual' and 'no good woman has a faith or culture that presents boundaries to male sexual rights' bullshit.

EndlessTea · 27/01/2023 10:55

Interesting RightsRaptor and Arabella.

The GRR project of hers - her hubris - leading to her downfall.

I hadn’t thought of that.

But she has shown herself up to be devastatingly flawed -forcing Westminster to intervene to halt her poorly written and judged legislation - making Scottish independence look a little less rosey.

turbonerd · 27/01/2023 11:11

All the -phobics out in one go!
And racism too!

All my favourite people at once!

I’m getting popcorn AND crisps for this.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/01/2023 11:11

Lol is she really using the political equivalent of “the people who disagree with this bill are all mean and smelly pooheads and loads of all the best people agree with me but wouldn’t know them they go to another school” 😆😆

Does she really not know how bad this looks??

Datun · 27/01/2023 11:23

She's going to have to start defining homosexuality, if she wants to bandy around words like homophobia.

Ooh, I hope someone can ask her that.
