The First Minister told Lewis Goodhall that as a "geneal principle someone who rapes a woman should not be in a women's prison" but says there's a "danger with a blanket approach because you catch cases that you shouldn't"

What she's doing here is calling in aid to the GRR Bill at Section 6B about screening of sex offenders in order to say that it's unwise to use blanket approaches. She's implying that saying a particular rapist can be excluded from a women's prison because he's a bad rapist, is a manifestation of the sensible and balanced approach adopted by the Scottish government in passing the GRR Bill.

Her fundamental assumption/suggestion is that the GRR Bill is a model of good law. But then she's got to do that because that albatross is securely hung around her neck.

I have heard people, politicians, claiming to be defenders of women's rights who I'd never heard defend women's rights in the past.

Considering no one should be in prison, I have little sympathy on how they are kept but that's another thread on who should be in secure mental services vs prisons!

I do think this defending woman rights at the expense of the rights of transsexuals is wrong and transphobic. No one deserves special treatment why should women have secure single sex spaces if we don't legislate for trans spaces. We should move forward as a society to a place where genotype means nothing we are all equal as we are human. It's time we desexualised ourselves the day a girl can walk down the street in a bikini when a man is topless will be the day we have equal rights.

Even if the opponents were racist, so what? Are we now going to view as “not valid” even completely normal objections if the person making them is in some way morally deficient?

I tell my kids that if they disagree with someone, they should discuss why, based on facts, and try to find a compromise. I tell them that name calling is not helpful, will just make everyone cross, and is never ok.

i used to think NS was a smart but cynical woman who pursued this agenda out of a single minded political desire to frame Scotland as progressive, and different from the UK government.

I am now starting to think that she has actually genuinely absorbed all the propaganda. And isn’t as smart as I thought. She is a very good saleswoman, marketeer and communicator. She has brilliantly branded Scotland.

But she’s failed on the big political challenges facing Scotland and she’s ‘progressive’ for the sake of it, rather than having a deeper more well thought through concept of the Scotland she wants to move the country to and why and what that means for the people of Scotland.

Well, I must say that your opinion of their screed is much more positive tna is mine!

When she says 'all women' does she mean 'men and women'?

I can't keep up with everyone's individual interpretation of the word woman any more.

Perhaps she could add an interpretative dance to make clear what she means.

What you need to do is teach your son to respect women and girls boundaries before he is big and strong enough to force his way through.
