Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

It is interesting watching them realise that no debate actually meant nope we've got nothing we can't debate

Kucinghitam · 27/01/2023 14:13

From 8 time zones away, DH sent me this:

twitter.com/MattCartoonist/status/1618660224662913048?s=20&t=SxFtjAec1ozYVAyss7xqcQ

He's climbed way beyond Everest and is accelerating out of the stratosphere Grin

Of course straight way he gets accused of being transphobic

All the comments on that response to the cartoon are pointing out its absurdity though.

Boiledbeetle · 27/01/2023 14:17

@Kucinghitam out of curiosity as he's somewhere else is any of this getting actual news coverage?

All the comments on that response to the cartoon are pointing out its absurdity though.

I mean the absurdity of calling rapists an oppressed and marginalised group.

That cartoon is so very funny, please thank him.

Sorry Boiled - he's at home in the UK, I'm away on holiday. (And yet, here I am, still MNetting!).

Well then...were YOU are is this getting any coverage?. And glad to see you regard mumsnetting as good use of your holiday.

Waitwhat23 · 27/01/2023 14:30

Saw this and thought it was apt -

Big glasses of whatever you drink to the women on here (some of whom were banned for speaking the truth) who have been fighting this fight for bloody years

Haven't looked at local news since I arrived, but I kind of doubt it. I'm keeping myself up to date via MN.

(BTW I'm not constantly MNetting while on holiday, it's just that because of the massive time difference I find myself wide-awake late in the evening after I've said goodnight to the people I'm visiting and am alone in my hotel room, i.e. around now).

This was a comment

Saying not to start on trans folk, that
one was murdered very recently and the murder reported in the mirror. Then telling Matt to please pick a different group……….
that they really are a small and inoffensive group.

Below that comment someone answered that the murdered man was a drag Queen and asked if they are considered trans now?

The only recently murdered drag queen I could find in the mirror, if that is the same person, was not remotely inoffensive at all as it happens, not that he should have been murdered.

i I almost have more respect for (1) the head up arse in sand ostriches still singing LalalaNothingToSeeHereNoDebate; (2) the steadfast "she's still a laydee no matter what she did with her penis, and if you mispronoun her you're evil, BeeeeeKind" nut jobs.

Me Too. It's shameful to see these vicious, destructive, awful people just pretend they never said awful, vicious things to and about women and were so contemptuous of any attempt to keep women safe just shove their hands in their pockets and whistle off to the next cause. At least the true believers did it for something they (wrongly) believe in.

duc748 · 27/01/2023 15:40

The cartoon may be on the the money, but I wouldn't be setting Matt up as any kind of hero. I recall some pretty unpleasant stuff from him on other topics. Likewise the Torygraph in general.

Boiledbeetle · 27/01/2023 15:42

Yeah...sure..we believe you😁

Well, probably, but he's right here. The wolf is dressed up as grandma for nefarious ends and while they're identifying as grandma to secure little red riding hood's trust and compliance, it puts her in a dangerous position.

IcakethereforeIam · 27/01/2023 18:46

Dr David Bell letter in the Guardian regarding that, imo, misleading and lightweight piece on the Tavistock. Fair play to them for publishing his letter I suppose.

I don't know that it's wise to set anyone up - least of all a cartoonist - as any sort of hero, or any sort of villain for that matter. Ditto comedians. Look at Izzard, who has gone from "these aren't women's clothes, they're my clothes" to full-on "she/her" mode. It doesn't make cats drilling behind the sofa any less funny.

Boiledbeetle · 27/01/2023 23:56

Just a flying visit. Well actually a flyposting visit

By which I mean, citation for setting up the cartoonist as a hero.

Furthermore, I've had it up to here with any kind of purity spiral Bad Media Bad People stuff. Bad Media can still be right about, well, stating the fucking obvious whilst Good Media can have their heads up their collective arses. I'd like to give posters on here the credit to be able to separate out those Bundles of Goodness and Badness - we're not TRSOH virtue-bunnies from JTT.

I thinks it's quite clear from history that people are products of their time and most people follow the crowd in general. I understand how you feel but I think a broad change in public policy will involve a lot of people just pretending they always supported what turns out to be "the right side of history".

Peter Tatchell et al will provide us with quite a lot of entertainment as they back away publicly though.

Kucinghitam · 28/01/2023 01:23

In terms of Good/Bad Media, hopefully the Mirror is sufficiently Unbad?

Bit of latenight butchery before I turn in, does anyone know if Maggie Personpeep ever finished 'working towards' her PHd?
