Why are trans people the "most marginalised and vulnerable" in society?

taracetamol · 18/01/2023 18:54

Trans people are often described as being the most marginalised and vulnerable in society.

I do not pretend that people who identify as trans aren't subjected to prejudice or ridicule and indeed, sadly, threats of violence. Yet how is it quantified that they are THE most vulnerable within the UK? What evidence supports this? I genuinely want to know because I find it difficult to find statistics that relate exclusively to the UK.

Because men say so.

tobee · 18/01/2023 18:55

Hang on, didn't we have this yesterday? 🤔

tobee · 18/01/2023 18:58

Or was it on chat or aibu?

Workerbeep · 18/01/2023 19:05

Good question of which I’d also like to know the evidence and criteria which backs this up.

I’ve just watched Stephen Flynn of the SNP state this in parliament.

what make me question this…
from 2008 to 2022 eleven trans people were murdered in the U.K.
in 2020 one hundred and ten women were murdered by men 🤔

WandaWomblesaurus · 18/01/2023 19:06

Where are the stats on the trans people murdered?

SinnerBoy · 18/01/2023 19:08

Why are trans people the "most marginalised and vulnerable" in society?

They're not, it's a lie, nothing more than a propaganda strapline.

SueVineer · 18/01/2023 19:09

They’re not imo

Where are the stats on the trans people murdered?

Somewhere between 6 and 9, since 2010, depending on criteria. If you pick 9, that's how many women have been murdered in Britain so far, in 2023.

Workerbeep · 18/01/2023 19:10

unherd.com/2022/01/the-truth-about-trans-murders/

I found some here. In the article it is reported that the same period 1800 women were murdered.

YumiSutzuki · 18/01/2023 19:10

They're not.

iklboo · 18/01/2023 19:10

They're not. They just shout louder. And because women don't exist matter anymore.

NecessaryScene · 18/01/2023 19:11

Where are the stats on the trans people murdered?

No immediate answer to hand, although I know I've seen them quite a few times over the years, but I just want to note that the numbers are so small, in both the UK and the US, that it's not even statistics, you can easily count individual cases.

And doing so, we know that almost all were not in any way "transphobic" or "hate crimes".

MsFogi · 18/01/2023 19:12

They are not. They are simply blokes who say they are marginal and vulnerable - repetition does not mean it is true.

SinnerBoy · 18/01/2023 19:15

...repetition does not mean it is true.

Absolutely, they are just using it to further the agenda.

The list below is from 2021 from the wonderful Dr Karen Ingala-Smith - who has also been compiling lists of murdered women for years and if I'm not mistaken it is her list of names that MP Jess Phillips reads out each year.

(I just wanted to point that out as those lists are titled 'counting dead women' and for people not familiar with her work, the title 'counting dead trans people might sound overly harsh)

From many years of speaking to trans widows, most of our exes seem to be middle aged, white professionals who are either engineers or work in IT. In the USA by contrast, many of them are ex army.

Either way, how they go from being in the most privileged group in society to the most marginalised, purely by declaring a trans identity is a mystery.

rogdmum · 18/01/2023 19:18

I also think it’s a TERRIBLE message to be giving to gender distressed adolescents. How many come to believe it because it’s all they hear about themselves, and by their supposed supporters/allies. I find it quite sickening actually

GailBlancheViola · 18/01/2023 19:28

It's another one of those never answered questions @taracetamol .

But they are most definitely not the most vulnerable, they just use the trope to cover and avoid questions or criticism about their agenda, it's used as a shut down tactic.

TinselAngel · 18/01/2023 19:36

I wonder if it's another thing (like murder statistics) that is appropriated from Latin American trans prostitutes, who just like prostituted women are of course vulnerable.

Melroses · 18/01/2023 19:43

Victor thingummy wotsit of the UN answered that connundrum whilst giving evidence to the Scottish Government. Transgender people are most marginalised because a South American study concluded that the high rates of their murder were covered up in the statistics by transwomen being recorded as men. This would all be solved by recording them as women instead. 👍

In the UK, a child is murdered each week, with parents the biggest killers. And that doesn't even account for the scale of neglect and physical abuse that social services are having to deal with.
There are thousands of elderly patients with dementia and alzheimers who need caring support.
We're living through an unprecedented economic crisis with children going hungry at school, parents missing meals to feed them and demand for foodbanks higher than they have ever been.
I could go on and on. Britain has huge numbers of vulnerable people falling into different groups.
I have no respect for anyone trotting out the 'most vulnerable' line for a group of people whose sole 'vulnerability' is that they self-identify as a different 'gender' in a modern Britain which is hugely supportive of gender non conformity.
Once you realise that so many of those are male, middle-aged and more than capable of looking after themselves, then it's clearly nothing more than entitlement with bells on, and utter nonsense to anyone with a brain.

Thank you for that link.

TheGreatATuin · 18/01/2023 20:02

I realise my post above may be seen as harsh but when you look at reality - who is dying, who is going hungry, who are most at risk in every social category, it's children and the elderly.
Trans people may have challenges but as a group, they are only 'most vulnerable' if you are so privileged as to not even see the genuinely vulnerable groups.

dapsnotplimsolls · 18/01/2023 20:02

'Marginalised and vulnerable' = someone said something a bit mean to them once.

IcakethereforeIam · 18/01/2023 20:06

Central and fashionable.
