Complications from trans surgery!

I know it's a daily mail article but I can't help thinking. We only ever hear positive stories but the figures tell us this. I really hope the men and woman are getting the support they need from these complications. 🥺

Half of trans surgery patients suffer pain, sexual issues years later mol.im/a/11629421 via dailym.ai/android

@NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision there was a thread a few days ago, possibly two, on FWR sparked by a Julie Bindel article on the enormous number of children identifying as trans in Blackpool. Perhaps coincidentally, Blackpool also has the largest number of 'looked after' children.

This worries me greatly. Children in the care system are already mostly dealing with trauma and disassociation. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see how that might translate to a disembodied experience.

Empowermenomore · 17/01/2023 15:29

Scott Newgent knows about complications. This is Scott’s advice:

“Parent? A declaration of "I'm Trans," really means:

I feel like I don't fit anywhere Mom, help me! Don't butcher my body, help my soul! Teach me how to embrace the AWESOMENESS of being different!'”

Excellent point. This is far from being 'just' a feminist issue. Mumsnet is a parenting website and a lot of my concern is about what's happening to children. Safeguarding seems to go out of the window as soon as certain words and ideas come up in conversation. So many teachers, youth workers, social workers, psychologists, doctors, other HCPs, politicians and lawyers have swallowed whole the idea that trans rights are an extension or even an integral part of gay rights, but in fact they're not just a separate issue, but in conflict. Lesbians, gay men and bisexual people face discrimination and violence because they are same-sex attracted, not same-gender attracted. Now we have a new variety of homophobes telling them they're bigots who need to work harder at resolving their genital fixations and accept that lesbians can have a penis and gay men can have a vagina.

Whatever happened to critical thinking and common sense? Why have so many people forgotten or not grasped established, uncontroversial facts about child psychology and development, which should have made them realise that teenage girls are very susceptible to social contagion and young children are not knowledgeable or insightful enough to make major life decisions at the age of 6?

These surgeries are a mass medical lawsuit waiting to happen.

I really hope it's not.

If people choose to have this sort of thing done to themselves then it should be at their own risk and no one else's.

TheKeatingFive · 17/01/2023 15:42

But if vulnerable people have been misled, coerced or poorly advised, then what?

the down side to these procedures is not fully explained to those seeking these type of surgeries.

I don't buy that. Genital transition surgery is not something anybody rushes into unprepared , like a tattoo or botox. It's no secret this is very complex, timeconsuming , expensive surgery with a long recovery time and obvious potential downsides.

Spoken like a mature, sensible, well-informed person with plenty of life experience and a healthy amount of scepticism.

Now think back to being a teenager. Look at how many adolescents think they're immortal. They know in theory there are risks to doing all sorts of things but they somehow convince themselves none of those things will happen to them. Drugs, alcohol, driving fast while under the influence/barely qualified, etc etc.

Then there's the substantial group of teenage girls who self-harm in various ways and whose self-esteem is on the floor. This is an extreme form of self-harm, and undergoing it leads to admiration and praise.

It's all very fucked up.

Capturetotalelotion · 17/01/2023 16:15

I remember GiGi Gorgeous did a YouTube video ages ago about how she nearly had bottom surgery but didn’t and the reasons she hasn’t and would never do it. Very interesting POV. Although I have seen that her spouse has recently had surgery which is also very interesting.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 17/01/2023 16:24

Not long ago, I found a 14 year old posting on twitter who honestly, genuinely believed that vaginoplasty (penile inversion surgery) could be reversed. Just put the penis back together, the way it was before.

These kids are so naïve, and honestly, when I think back to being 14, I didn't have any idea either.

I can’t say I care. Anyone that isn’t happy in their body is never going to be happy in one of the opposite sex anyway 🤷‍♀️

What is needed, more than anything, is adequate mental health support and counselling. At the moment there is a huge dearth of people trained in supporting those questioning their gender.

Rather than close the whole conversation down, we need real support. Long term counselling by those who are trained in gender issues. I believe that gender isn't always simply black and white - it's known in the animal kingdom, so should be expected in humans. BUT, it's such a huge massive undertaking, that we need to ensure that anyone struggling is protected from rushing into decisions. Young people need protecting - and in theory, they should be, but the reality is the lack of support available.

It’s almost like these surgeons have opened up a gaping wound in these people and then the body has tried to heal but is so injured it doesn’t do very well…

I've had common treatments and surgeries for actual serious health issues, and I did not even get correct information from my surgeons or doctors from all the side effects or long term issues I could experience.

So I absolutely believe these people are not informed correctly.

Callous. I care. I want these troubled youngsters to be given appropriate help and support in the hope that they can learn to live with themselves better. All the evidence from decades ago was that most of them did grow out of gender dysphoria by the time they were through puberty.

There is an article on Glinner's substack by a mother of a child wanting to transition. Everyone should read it.

Richie Heron, Sinead Watson and Chloe Cole are three people speaking out about what they were told might happen. Mainly they were not forewarned about any of it. The detransitioners reddit has grown to over 40,000 subscribers.

Medics that might want to explain it, are at risk of being sacked or doxxed or cancelled if they dare to speak out about what the after effects might be. Jordan Peterson is about to lose his licence for speaking out about it [and to be sent for 'reeducation'.

The 'joke' in the GIDS in London was that there would be no gay people left, as so many parents were transitioning their little gay kids.

James Esses wanted to look into it as part of his MSc and was kicked out of university for suggesting it.

To say that adults or teens are fully informed is a lie, whichever way you look at it. Children are being told in schools that they can be anything they want to be.

Teens who have had mastectomies are asking when their breasts will grow back. This is heartbreaking.

Yes I agree. It's the same with any operation etc. If there needs to be an inquiry or something so be it.

Yes I agree. If I go for an operation I expect to be told all the risks.

IcakethereforeIam · 17/01/2023 16:38

@JusteanBiscuits I think I kind of agree with you. Gender, in so far as it exists at all, isn't black and white. Sex on the other hand is black and white, male and female even taking dsd's into account. I don't understand your animal kingdom digression, you surely don't mean.....clownfish!?

Better mental health support seems so obvious to me, I think it's inarguable but definitely not affirmation only.

I'm not sure if you are getting this yet.

People who have tried to study and report on the risks have been prevented from doing so. So how would anyone know the risks if people are prevented from reporting on them?

With my armchair psychologist hat on, I wonder whether they've created an open, painful and difficult to heal surgical wound that reflects how they feel inside.

How can you not care?

These are vulnerable people being missold irreversible medical procedures that will destroy their quality of life forever. Some of the victims were set on this path as literal children.
