I know it's a daily mail article but I can't help thinking. We only ever hear positive stories but the figures tell us this. I really hope the men and woman are getting the support they need from these complications. 🥺

Half of trans surgery patients suffer pain, sexual issues years later mol.im/a/11629421 via dailym.ai/android

If you look on some crowd funding sites and search on ‘top surgery revision’ you will see a worrying number of people trying to raise money to get the terrible results of the first surgery fixed. All sorts of serious complications and botches.

This seems to be totally unregulated as far as I can see - and so many are being permanently disfigured when it goes wrong.

What strikes me how rushed everything is. For surgery with lifelong implications and high risks of serious complications.
I had pioneering reconstructive surgery (airway not genital) It was openly recognised by all drs it was a major decision and lots of risks. I took time to make decision. I had a detailed consent appointment and they asked for me to bring my husband to ensure all risks were fully understood and I had support. I was under no illusions that it would be a miracle cure. A bit of your thigh and rib can’t fully replicate another body part. It’s physically impossible. Issues like no one knows how long it will last before re do needed, no long term outcomes available as procedure is so new, issue with hair (mines the opposite my reconstruction lacks the little hairs airway normally have)
I was older. I’m not autistic, no psychological issues. Yet it was recognised I needed detailed information (even if the information was we don’t know) and time to make a truly informed consent.

Have you ever been on the Reddit pages about regret? Not for those with weak stomachs.

@Dixiechickonhols - but this is the nature of the problems that TRA,s have created. If it's not done when I want, it's transphobic.

Yes exactly.
I’m part of a group for my rare condition and the USA women’s experience is very different. They tend to jump far more quickly into surgery. I think part is insurance related it’s cheaper to take hit of one major surgery and than pay co pay on repeated more minor surgery. But also cultural - I want it now and I’m paying therefore I should have it. Plus also the belief there has to be a fix for this - a common question from Americans is surely there’s a one and done option. I’ve never seen a British or Australian ask that. It’s very different to our British more cautious wait and see, try less invasive options first approach.

What's the subreddit?

They are probably talking about "detrans" subreddit. There are also a lot of detransitioners testimonies on youtube if you google "detrans stories" or "detrans regret"

A prominent transwoman insists they have a cervix.

A prominent transman allegedly expressed surprise and disappointment at being unable to breastfeed after a double mastectomy.

Either these individuals did not have the full biological reality of their surgeries explained to them in advance, or they were of the mindset to not listen/understand.

In terms of medical ethics both scenarios are troubling and warrant scrutiny.
