The odds are of course wrong, because we live in a sexist world where the 'dice' are loaded against women in the music industry.

That's why we need 2 sets of awards.

Agree

Of course its subjective - and there is arguments as to who & who shouldn't be in the top 5.

But it will be based on sales, commercial success, popularity etc etc - and who ever makes the judgement for the final 5 taken all of that into consideration.

Its not just 5 randomly chosen acts from an equal sex population to give the 3% figure that was quoted before. - that's all i was saying in the post above.

ErrolTheDragon
I agree, there should be two sets of awards (best male & best female) and they shouldn't have changed it - but what is stopping 5 males entering the female category next year?

midgetastic · 16/01/2023 17:17

It's not just sales and such - as by the metrics some women would be expected in the list

Felix125 · 16/01/2023 17:42

I'm not saying its just sales - its commercial success, tours, popularity, downloads etc etc. There will be various variables

RoseslnTheHospital · 16/01/2023 17:42

@Felix125 which Brit award did Baddiel and Skinner win in which year?

Felix125 · 16/01/2023 17:47

I'm not saying they won - they were invited to attend the event.
The suggestion was that novelty acts would not be invited to the Brits - yet Skninner & Baddiel were, all off the back of one song

Ladbaby have had 5 songs now - all gone to number 1 and never been invited to attend

Doyoumind · 16/01/2023 18:23

Is Felix just trolling? Reminds me of one of those tiresome know-it-alls in the pub who has a shit response to every point made.

Felix125 · 16/01/2023 18:36

No - I'm just answering some points raised

PP addressed this and couldn't find a metric that excluded all women from the top five.

However you slice it a separate category is needed because women don't get nominated.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/01/2023 20:31

Baddiel and Skinner wrote an original pop song that is pretty catchy and has endured the test of time.

Ladbaby is a gurning idiot who covers existing sings and changes some of the words for amusing bantz. It's not really the same thing.

In any case nether are solo female artists or nominated for Brit Awards so of little relevance to this thread.

Endlesssummer2022 · 16/01/2023 22:23

The only chance women have of getting nominated/winning and all of the extra success that brings now will be if they create a Women's music awards, similar to the MOBOs.

Felix125 · 17/01/2023 09:13

Ginmonkeyagain

Your argument was that 'acts like that don't get invited'

Burt clearly they do if Skinner & Baddiel were there. The 'catchy' music was written by Ian Broudie of the Lightning Seeds - Skinner & Baddie just supplied the lyrics to existing music - similar to Ladbaby

Ladbaby is also duet - Mark & Roxanne - 5 singes, 5 number ones since 2018 and not a single invite.

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/01/2023 09:30

Yes Three Lions was an original song written by an established pop writer and producer with a lot of good hits under his belt (Ian Broudie who is an established and credible artist who not only has his own band but has worked with a lot of artists included The Fall, Big in Japan, The Zutons , Terry Hall etc.. see you are not the only person who knows about music!), which is why it is a catchy pop song people like and has stood the test of time. Now some people do not like football songs but not all football songs are novelty hits - cf World in Motion.

Ladbaby on the otherhand is internet bantz that has got out of control and the "music" is objectively very very bad. It is the Colin Hunt of charity singles.

However Ladbabay and the musical merits thereof is not the issue here - female solo artists and their representation is not equal issue with whether commercially successful acts with little artistic merit are recognised by the Brits. So please stop it.

RoseslnTheHospital · 17/01/2023 09:36

This Ladbaby obsession is the oddest derail.

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/01/2023 09:38

Innit!

Felix125 · 17/01/2023 09:48

I'm answering your point that novelty acts don't get invited - its not a derail

RoseslnTheHospital · 17/01/2023 09:49

@Felix125 no, that was your point. That you introduced. No one else was discussing audience invitees and novelty acts.

Felix125 · 17/01/2023 09:53

Ginmonkeyagain
Well no - because the are a shit awful novelty act. Acts like that don't get invited to awards shows.

Quoted from the previous page - I'm merely answering that point

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/01/2023 10:00

But you brought the subject of Ladbaby up in the first place.

It has nothing to do with solo female artists as Ladbaby are not a female solo artist.

Felix125 · 17/01/2023 10:03

I know i did - and I'm answering the point that was raised from it........

My original point was that those who get invited & nominated are not always consistent.

RoseslnTheHospital · 17/01/2023 11:02

Oh they are consistent, they are consistently male dominated...
