Belatedly - we've not had an FWR women of the year thread this year.

There are so many worthy of mention! I'm not planning on doing a spreadsheet to decide a 'winner' but if anyone else wants to please do.

So, to get the ball rolling with some obvious names...

Joanne Rowling - I think someone reckoned she's due a lifetime award but I'm pretty sure she's going to be doing more for women each year so that's premature.Grin

Maya Forstater and Allison Bailey for their important legal battles.

Special MNer's award to @IamSarah for her bravery and persistence.

Stephanie Davies-Arai & all those working with her at Transgender Trend - Quietly and respectfully trying to turn around all the harm happening to children.

Saucery · 25/12/2022 17:52

Most of the above, plus The Famous Artist Birdy Rose.

TheBiologyStupid · 25/12/2022 17:57

Happy to go along with the OP's suggestions and all of the others in this thread - support wren included.

Happy Christmas everyone!

@SacreBlue Flowers Flowers

rogdmum · 25/12/2022 18:01

Ash Regan would be my nomination this year.

All the ones mentioned so far JKR, KJK etc. Maybe the woman who flashed her fanny at Holyrood? Overnight legend there

That’s Elaine Miller, aka GussieGrips. Fanny physio and comedian.

SlagathaChristie · 25/12/2022 18:05

So many already mentioned like Kellie-Jay Keen and JK Rowling. I'd also give a shout out to Dr Katie Alcock for going against Girlguiding's nonsense safeguarding. Hard to stand up when you're in a leftie environment like academia.

Whereareyourshoes · 25/12/2022 18:20

Dr Kath Murray, Lucy Hunter Blackburn and Lisa Mackenzie (MurrayBlackburnMackenzie) for all their incredible policy analysis.

For Women Scotland for all their work to protect the rights of women and children. 💚🤍💜

There are other threads for discussion about individuals, let's not do that here please... objection noted, how about making a positive suggestion of someone you want to celebrate.

Now that persons other posts have been deleted, the only one that remains is the one where they state KJK s name.

It's a beautiful sight

All the women previously mentioned and all the fantastic posters on here but a special mention from me for Helleofabore who's patience and knowledge constantly leaves me in awe.

There was supposed to be a laughing smiley after that quote!

Whereareyourshoes · 25/12/2022 18:35

Elaine Miller for just being bloody amazing and the woman who heckled Nicola Sturgeon at the Zero Tolerance virtue signalling event, ‘Shame on you Nicola!’

I'll agree with you there, you always know when you're on a thread with one of the posters who like to tell us we are wrong about everything you just know if you go and make a cuppa and and a butty by the time you return @Helleofabore will have posted a wonderfully worded multi paragraph explanation of why exactly they are wrong, point by bloody point.

I read them in awe. I have visions of her sat in front of a bank of monitors pulling in files from all over ready to refute whatever drivel comes out in the next post.

I do like it when you get a good few pages in and she collects all their comments on one post to show exactly how they backtrack and change what they did five minutes earlier. It's like watching an artist at work.

WildIris · 25/12/2022 18:43

Dr Kate Coleman from KPSS.

Marylou62 · 25/12/2022 18:56

Quietly watching and reading and learning and screenshoting...(so I can remember the points) as I try and share to let people know what is going on .. you are all strong wonderful women (and men).. I've watched this unfold and tried my best to follow you all and share with my friends.. thank you all from a not so articulate woman..

Blister · 25/12/2022 19:01

Kerala Bell and all the other detransitioners for me

Yep!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/12/2022 19:10

Another MNer award: for the indomitable @TinselAngel and all she does to give transwidows a space and a voice.

OP posts:
JoodyBlue · 25/12/2022 19:10

Everyone mentioned already. But my shout has to go to Helen Joyce whose bravery and articulacy I have witnessed first hand this year. My eye we are so fortunate to have all of these women arise with their fierce intelligences and their refusal to let women's and children's rights go down the pan. 2023 bring it on!!!

InfluenzalA · 25/12/2022 20:08

Hadley Freeman!

ResisterRex · 25/12/2022 20:16

I agree with all these and I would add Miriam Cates as she's really stuck her neck out this year

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/12/2022 20:25

And of course the fantastic journalist Janice Turner who's been writing about this in the Times for ever - and still continues to do so.

Breakfastinbedonhols · 25/12/2022 20:58

Jenni Swayne (stickerwoman of Newport). If you haven’t read her police interview it is on this thread and it is an absolute classic:

Toseland · 25/12/2022 21:12

Miriam Cates MP has been bloody brilliant - thank you Miriam!

BlackeyedSusan · 25/12/2022 21:22

I'd like to nominate all those women who have written to their children's school to hold them to account. Thank you.

And all the women who have written to MPs or spoken out at work who have been that little link in making things better for the rest of us.
