Belatedly - we've not had an FWR women of the year thread this year.

There are so many worthy of mention! I'm not planning on doing a spreadsheet to decide a 'winner' but if anyone else wants to please do.

So, to get the ball rolling with some obvious names...

Joanne Rowling - I think someone reckoned she's due a lifetime award but I'm pretty sure she's going to be doing more for women each year so that's premature.

Maya Forstater and Allison Bailey for their important legal battles.

Special MNer's award to @IamSarah for her bravery and persistence.

What do you think this is, the BBC?

I wonder if any of the women upthread would stand a chance of getting an award if they were nominated. JKR would be the obvious one.

Reading the nomination process:

'You’ll need your nominee’s name, age, address and contact details. You’ll also be asked for your nominee’s gender, ethnicity and nationality to help us with our diversity monitoring.'

I would have thought ‘gender’ means sex in this case. It is still the ‘polite’, prim way of stating sex on many forms. It’s problematical now because of the ideology.

In this instance I'm inclined to agree.

I assumed that JKR would have been offered a Damehood and so must have turned it down - but I see that she has got an OBE and a CH, so maybe not, unbelievably. I'm going to nominate her.

Oh I can't nominate her - you have to have supporting letters from people who know her, plus address etc.

Go through her agent? I'll send them an email.

Well, there's quite abfew you could approach who know her.

Maybe start with Baroness Nicolson?

I don't recall seeing her on the thread yet, forgive me if I've misremembered but Martina Navratilova. I've just seen that she's been diagnosed with cancer. She's an awesome sportswoman, has no truck with men in women's sport and isn't afraid to say so. I wish her all the best.

I was going to mention her too, having seen that.
