Belatedly - we've not had an FWR women of the year thread this year.

There are so many worthy of mention! I'm not planning on doing a spreadsheet to decide a 'winner' but if anyone else wants to please do.

So, to get the ball rolling with some obvious names...

Joanne Rowling - I think someone reckoned she's due a lifetime award but I'm pretty sure she's going to be doing more for women each year so that's premature.Grin

Maya Forstater and Allison Bailey for their important legal battles.

Special MNer's award to @IamSarah for her bravery and persistence.

Alison Bailey (and Ben coopers support wren if it’s female)

That wren was the inspiration for my name change so let’s assume she is! 😄

Every single woman fighting for women’s rights, from JKR and the other high profile women, to the most sporadic anonymous poster here thinking “this isn’t right” putting a pseudonym to a petition. Standing up for our rights is a far more dangerous and isolating activity than it should be as we approach the end of 2022.

”Nevertheless, she persisted.”

Has anyone mentioned Emma 'FondOfBeetles' Hilton yet - some sterling work on sex differences which I'm sure has informed some of the glimmers of return to sanity in various sports. It's been a long year, so much happening recently that it's easy to forget significant contributions earlier in the year.

One of my favourite things on Twitter is someone saying very stupid about the human body/biology/sports and then seeing Fondofbeetles entering the fray - it's glorious how she can point out the facts with brilliant effect.

There are so many this year, but for me it's the women of For Women Scotland. On and on they battle, never giving up, in the most depressing of circumstances. They have my utmost admiration.

I actually can't believe I left off FWS from my list of brilliant Scottish women - they definitely deserve a mention!

IamSarah · 26/12/2022 20:40

OMG I can’t believe I’ve been given a Mumsnet award in the OP! Thank you Errol that means the world. I definitely could not have got through this year without the support of Mumsnetters.

My FWR women of the year are:

@Artichokeleaves
@AmmaryllisNightAndDay
@Boiledbeetle
@Waitwhat23
@ArabellaScott

Other women of the year in no particular order:

Rosie Duffield
Shonagh Dillon
Karen Ingala Smith
Judith Green
Naomi Cunningham
Karon Monaghan
Maya Forstater

@IamSarah 💋💐

Helleofabore · 26/12/2022 21:55

I am gobsmacked to see my name here! I have been travelling and just got wifi access!! Thank you all. However, I don’t deserve this mention at all. I am merely channeling all you amazing posters! There are about 50 wonderful recipients on this board that I could name. Posters who come from all walks of life, from all professions who give their knowledge, experience and insight generously.

I agree with all the posters mentioned on this thread and probably all the women and groups mentioned who are not posters as well. And yes, Sarah, for your continued bravery, you are very worthy of this award.

Anyone who has read my posts lately know that I post so I can calm the raging dissonance that some posts cause through dishonesty and manipulation. Thank you for reminding me that I am not alone in that.

Don't worry we've been keeping Onnabugeisha busy for you this evening she's actually rather...sweet.

😙😁

Helleofabore · 26/12/2022 22:02

I have visions of her sat in front of a bank of monitors pulling in files from all over ready to refute whatever drivel comes out in the next post.

That would be awesome!!! The truth is very low key and sadly, boring!! Usually my little phone. But now I would just love that set up! Wink

Ok. Imagine me like in the crime shows with three screens and an archive that is filed carefully for speedy access!!!

Although, having now been to the loo and can concentrate the fact that you are doing this on your phone usually.

Seriously... I can't even.

How???????

Right back to CSI style imagine because the actual does not compute.

DialSquare · 26/12/2022 22:17

You do deserve it Helle. I imagine many many lurkers are in awe of your posts too.

Thanks dial. I am chuffed. But really, I am but one of many! Together we really do stand stronger, don’t we! X

DialSquare · 26/12/2022 22:25

Yes we do. As you said earlier, we come from all different walks of life with different experiences and with different strengths but we all have the same goal.

ArabellaScott · 26/12/2022 22:30

Agree with all the pp's that we owe Helleofabore a great big thank you for her persistent, patient, clear and cool headed posts. Flowers

And big applause to all the women of FWR for their wit & wisdom.

Also nominating MoirasSaggyBundles for best username of 2022.

Outwith MN -

The women of Iran
KJK
Ash Regan
JK Rowling
Elaine Miller
Allison Bailey
Hadley Freeman

NotBadConsidering · 26/12/2022 23:01

JK Rowling being nominated is like Meryl Streep at the Oscars: you have to give others a chance of winning something.

I’d like to nominate @ArabellaScott for funniest post of the year on a recently deleted thread which went along the (paraphrased) lines of

“Wait, buildings contact people now? What do they use, brick phones?”

🤣🤣🤣

TinselAngel · 26/12/2022 23:32

Thanks for the nominations Wims, I won't say I don't deserve it 😉

An honourable mention for Helleofaberyl from me, for putting the hours in. She's Datun's heir!

ErrolTheDragon · 26/12/2022 23:38

Datun's heir? She aten't dead yet!Grin

I second all these nominations! All the regulars on FWR are brilliant (well... not all the regulars :) I've learned so much from all of you.
