Belatedly - we've not had an FWR women of the year thread this year.

There are so many worthy of mention! I'm not planning on doing a spreadsheet to decide a 'winner' but if anyone else wants to please do.

So, to get the ball rolling with some obvious names...

Joanne Rowling - I think someone reckoned she's due a lifetime award but I'm pretty sure she's going to be doing more for women each year so that's premature.Grin

Maya Forstater and Allison Bailey for their important legal battles.

Special MNer's award to @IamSarah for her bravery and persistence.

Keira Bell. Maya F. Allison B. Bev and Kate from LGB Alliance. Everyone fighting court cases. Everyone donating to them.
And everyone who’s written to their political representatives this year. Particularly in Scotland. Keep going

JKR as charitable hero of the year
Wonens groups in Scotland

So many women to be mentioned in so many aspects because everyone who speaks up is brilliant. Posters on here, honourable mention of course.

Everyone who is just keeping going in this shitty political and economic situation which always impacts more on women

Everyone living their daily life needing womens spaces and single sex services which are constantly under threat.
i already posted about this but this Twitter post is incredibly powerful. I hope that everyone who is taking away protections for women reads it and feels utter shame.

^ Henrietta Freeman, a disabled woman with home care tweeted about why she needs female carers. [Flowers] to her

My "best" death threat was from a trans-identifying male on Twitter telling me he'd like to "drown me in a canal".

Once I got over the disproportionate spite, I decided it was, in fact, an almost bucolic proposal. I've always fancied a weekend on a narrow boat. Think how many emails to MPs I could write about gender ideology whilst merrily chugging along...

IcakethereforeIam · 30/12/2022 12:40

Can you get WiFi on barges? If you can that sounds lovely.

Talking about barges, death threats are awful, coupled with bad, derivative, 'art'....just...no.

Comparing a twitter self-owner with the amazing women on this thread is almost cruel though.

Are we having a competition over who gets the most death threats now?

I can't decide whether a narrow boat holiday sounds nice or whether I'd be dancing along beside it, muttering 'for the love of everything, hurry up!'.

Rather not be drowned in one though.

TinselAngel · 30/12/2022 13:03

I got sent a lot of gifs of shitting dogs at one point. Where's my award?

TinselAngel · 30/12/2022 13:05

Was it from the Peaky Blinders?

As a collective, the highly intelligent, always informative and frequently very bloody funny ...

Women Of FWR Mumsnet

who have taught me a great deal and for over 8 years now have kept me sane even though I don't post much these days in those early days you were an absolute goddess send and I am positive I am not the only woman who feels like this.

Thank you to all of you, every single one.

KittyKlaws · 30/12/2022 13:14

Ok in typical fashion I seem to have landed somewhere among death threat comparisons - carry on. 😄

Blister · 30/12/2022 13:16

Are we having a competition over who gets the most death threats now?

I think so... with most perpetrators all of the same sex..

OmiOmy · 30/12/2022 13:56

Women can never be allowed to focus on ourselves, without a plopper plopping in saying what about the menz.

We are celebrating women. Get over it.

Amazingly, a thread celebrating wonderful women seems to have been derailed. I'm surprised, personally.

Waitwhat23 · 30/12/2022 14:05

I'm singing the word Bunbury to the tune of the William Tell Overture in my head whenever I read posts by the derailers.

Boiledbeetle · 30/12/2022 14:09

Ahhh I see we are once again free of strange festive doodles. It's been deleted.

And one of you had been round and cracked open a few windows too.

All nice and fresh smelling again

Remember ladies, when going into other peoples spaces always be polite.

I learned that from bee. Following bees example also got me deleted.

So, actually thinking about it.

BE ALERT

Your country needs LERTS.

Sorry predates the internet jokes only from me today.

DialSquare · 30/12/2022 14:20

Another live demonstration of overstepping women's boundaries. It just comes so easily doesn't it.

OmiOmy · 30/12/2022 14:21

Women I admire:

Nomcebo Mkhaliphi
Nomcebo lives with her family in Swaziland. She works voluntarily, travelling around schools to provide information about menstruation. She is passionate about ending period shaming and the stigma attached to periods for the health and wellbeing of girls. Nomcebo began doing this part time some years ago, and she has been dedicated to it full time since losing her job in 2018. She has a go fund me page, if you're interested.

Laila Mickelwait
Founder, #Traffickinghub Movement | Founder/CEO, Justice Defense Fund

Apne Aap Women's Collective, an anti-trafficking organisation in India who work with women and children in the red light district of Mumbai. I think they may have been compromised by gender ideology (in the past?) at a higher level but their grassroots work is vital.

NotBadConsidering · 30/12/2022 08:59

Katy Montgomerie 🤣🤣🤣

What do you think this is, the BBC?

Thank you, thank you for the wit and wisdom on a grey day👏

AutumnCrow · 30/12/2022 15:40

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been a compassionate friend to all while sticking with her reality-based principles and defence of women's earned, deserved and needed protections. And she's a brilliant writer.
