Belatedly - we've not had an FWR women of the year thread this year.

There are so many worthy of mention! I'm not planning on doing a spreadsheet to decide a 'winner' but if anyone else wants to please do.

So, to get the ball rolling with some obvious names...

Joanne Rowling - I think someone reckoned she's due a lifetime award but I'm pretty sure she's going to be doing more for women each year so that's premature.Grin

Maya Forstater and Allison Bailey for their important legal battles.

Special MNer's award to @IamSarah for her bravery and persistence.

Ramblingnamechanger · 25/12/2022 17:21

The Baroness.

SiobhanSharpe · 25/12/2022 17:21

I love all those suggestions but for me Elaine Miller does it all with humour and style. Not to mention articulacy.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/12/2022 17:25

Ash Regan, for standing up to her party, and standing up for women & girls.

EpicChaos · 25/12/2022 17:25

Everyone that has attended a speakers corner/similar event, or has just terfed about generally.
You are all heroines to me!

DameMaud · 25/12/2022 17:28

I second Ash Regan

Boiledbeetle · 25/12/2022 17:31

All of you bloody amazing lot.

MontyBoston · 25/12/2022 17:31

I think Ash Regan, God bless her. Honorable second place to GussieGrips and her minge.

I am furious with Sturgeon and Chapman, among others.

ZestFest · 25/12/2022 17:31

So many strong and inspirational women to choose from. I want to say Maya and Allison, but then JKR had so much to lose when she picked her side. Joanna Cherry is awesome, KJKM is brilliant at getting public focus and Elaine is magnificent.

I nominate all of them lol - and as a poster upthread said, all of those people quietly terfing, stickering, talking and raising awareness.

pieceofpasta · 25/12/2022 17:32

I think it would be great if all these women were made Dames. That would send a message! Has JKR been offered a knighthood? Has she refused?

MontyBoston · 25/12/2022 17:33

Here's to the continued struggle on 2023..

!!!!! FWR women of the year !!!!!
MarshaBradyo · 25/12/2022 17:34

All the women on these threads who keep posting sane and intelligent posts

OneMorePlant · 25/12/2022 17:36

JK Rowling and Kellie-Jay Keen both have been amazing this year.

Also an honorable mention to all the women doing their part wether it's stickering, online debates, protests, mailing MP's, having conversations on the street. It's been amazing seeing this movement grow and everyone getting more courage to speak out.

NothingButAWalkover · 25/12/2022 17:39

All the ones mentioned so far JKR, KJK etc. Maybe the woman who flashed her fanny at Holyrood? Overnight legend there

*Autocorrect - Kellie-Jay Keen

I’m nominating a collective - all the regular FWR posters - because regardless of ‘bigger’ issues, you lot help fellow women survive & escape abusive relationships every damn day.

I personally may have not made it out, much less be able to build a life beyond abuse, without you.

I wouldn’t have the info, tools or confidence to challenge misogynistic behaviour/policies without you.

And I certainly would have become some poor cowed sad dour shadow of a woman without your humour, strength & straight talking.

Thank you all for your support, directly or indirectly, you have helped me keep my sanity & make it through to a happier life far away from the man who abused me.

FWR women, you are my women of the year, every year.

littleburn · 25/12/2022 17:44

Bev Jackson and Kate Harris, co-founders of LGB Alliance. Veteran feminist and lesbian activists. who I'm sure didn't expect to still be fighting this shit in the 2020s.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/12/2022 17:45

There are other threads for discussion about individuals, let's not do that here please... objection noted, how about making a positive suggestion of someone you want to celebrate.
