How Long Before We Look Back In Amazement

..................over the fact that we had to go through all the transwankery. That we had to fight and fight over such an issue. That some men were allowed to do this to us. That even a lot of women could not see the harm this was causing women and girls.

I mean, surely there will come a time when we can look back and say "I remember that - it was awful - thank goodness people saw through it eventually." How long will it be?

I am increasingly fearful that that day will never come - we seem to be having our rights to single-sex spaces, and our identity, ripped away from us further each day.

thewayround · 16/12/2022 13:19

It has such a tiny impact on my life and I really only read about it ever on mumsnet, i doubt I’ll ever reach that point

thewayround · 16/12/2022 13:21

Thankfully my kids go to schools and their peers really don’t also seem to be bothered about it all. Thank goodness. No classmates suddenly decided they want to be called Jane instead of Jeremy

Apollo441 · 16/12/2022 13:25

A decade or more I fear. Just look at how the juggernaut rolls on. Just when you think the interim Cass report has finally brought some sense to the medical care, they contribute to a review and are much much more equivocal. The Department of Education was meant to issue long awaited guidance and hearing Gillian Keagan (the minister) talk about how we are now so much more aware of the issue of 'trans' children (not that they'd been captured by an ideology and there are no trans children) you begin to worry what the guidance will be. The post modernist, queer theory bullshit is embedded everywhere.

Nothing to see here. Be kind. Move on. This only exists in your heads.....

Is this the latest tactic since they can't win an argument, just pretend it isn't happening?

ResisterRex · 16/12/2022 13:29

It depends on so many things.

What means can the current government take advantage of to stop the GRR? They could do that now, presumably.

If the final Cass report isn't where it seems to be headed and if the queer theory-soaked RSE isn't dealt with by the government, at least 10 years.

If we have a Labour government next, even longer as they'll not want to draw attention to their championing of transing gay kids to satisfy their lust SM clicks on an "inclusive conversion therapy ban". Then how long do we have them for? Who knows.

The Tories could announce an inquiry. Especially if it looks like they might lose, Labour would have to govern while that was happening.

It's all politics isn't it? But with real damage to real children and real women.

no I mean I care about having men in my changing room at the gym

but in a very abstract, well I’m hardly ever there anyway, kinda way! 😂

waterwitch · 16/12/2022 13:31

thewayround try telling that to parents with children who have decided they are trans

Yes. And politics is why I can no longer vote SNP.
I am shocked by Sturgeon's stance on the trans issue.

But with a Labour government there is a tiny chance of some more funding of CAMHS. Especially if paediatric gender is being folded back into generalist CAMHS clinics. I regard the shredding of experienced CAMHS services as part of the underpinning of what is going on.

I don't think the future will look like the past. But I do think there will come a time when adolescent culture doesn't feed self harm through a gender lens in the same way, and 'being trans' whatever that is reverts to being a tiny minority.

ReunitedThorns · 16/12/2022 13:36

Salem, lobotomy, Thalidomide etc. This will be one of those.

But experts who did wrong during the Covid pandemic are calling for an amnesty, I expect the experts in trans care will do the same too.

Rainbowshit · 16/12/2022 13:36

Sadly I think it will only be when the current teenagers grow up and realise how much damage has been done to some of them.

Bloody awful.

but my point was for me and my teens and my friends and their teens…. It just doesn’t feature on our radar other than in an abstract hear about it on SM way

And that, right there, is why we have such a long hard fight ahead. It doesn’t affect me, so screw the women in prisons with rapists, the girls losing sports places, the teenagers being harmed by this ideology…..

picklemewalnuts · 16/12/2022 13:46

Gosh, you are well insulated, Wayround! I know far too many, some of them forever damaging their bodies.

It's tragic and happening all around you, like self harm, eating disorders and drug use- but state sanctioned, effectively.

Beamur · 16/12/2022 13:48

Rainbowshit · 16/12/2022 13:36

Sadly I think it will only be when the current teenagers grow up and realise how much damage has been done to some of them.

I think that there will be a shift but I don't think we will go back to 1985 or whenever this movement started to gain traction.
There will be a middle ground. Where better practice for teens and adults is less experimental. Although I fear that this will be formed around detransitioners experience too.
I don't think we will see transwomen competing in sports against women, although I suspect that many previously single sex spaces will no longer be so. Pronoun use is faddy and creates conflict so it will be interesting to see if that practice declines and falls or just settles into an accepted practice. How we write and sign off letters and emails is constantly changing. In my working lifetime I have gone from writing letters longhand which were then typed by someone else, following a very formal format, to dictating letters, to word processing them myself, to emails and now teams/zoom. How I have presented myself has changed too, I have never used Miss/Mrs and I will resist pronouns as I can't see how either are relevant to my work.
Society keeps changing.

But it should, or you are part of the problem. Don't you see that?

That is remarkable. There are 5 out of 7 of my teen’s group with trans identities.

plus I have two sets of friends with trans identified teens, and one work colleague with a trans identified teen.

That is just the teens!

Bloody hell!!!

Mine at very full on independent schools. Academic schools and huge focus on sport. My son doesn’t usually even get home from various sports training until gone 8, then dinner and homework. Not too much time for navel gazing thankfully!

GrrrrAReform · 16/12/2022 14:03

Far, far too long (if at all)

Every day I fear it's getting more and more entrenched. But I live in Scotland and am depressed beyond words about it all at the moment. Will buck up in a day or two no doubt.

fabricstash · 16/12/2022 14:05

Unfortunately this is alive and kicking in Bristol - bonkers

So no girls?

UnderHisEyeOverMyDeadBody · 16/12/2022 14:06

I hope so however, realistically I think if it does happen it will be decades from now.

Every time something comes out that I think could bring the whole charade to an end and open the eyes of the public, absolutely nothing comes of it.

MarshaBradyo · 16/12/2022 14:08

It really hope this is the case and soon

There were times I thought voices would be quashed

Then again a Labour gov might make it depressing again

thewayround · 16/12/2022 14:09

Helleofabore · 16/12/2022 14:06

So no girls?

Yes, early teen. Independent girls school. Seriously, they know those that have declared their to be called Jane rather than Jeremy on the school bus… but it’s not something that is on their agenda.

It’s very prevalent In the state school system as I suspect the poor schools are expected to cover it in a very liberal politically correct manner. Thankfully not my my children’s schools
