How Long Before We Look Back In Amazement

..................over the fact that we had to go through all the transwankery. That we had to fight and fight over such an issue. That some men were allowed to do this to us. That even a lot of women could not see the harm this was causing women and girls.

I mean, surely there will come a time when we can look back and say "I remember that - it was awful - thank goodness people saw through it eventually." How long will it be?

I honestly don't think the lie is sustainable. The lawsuits will help with that.

GoldenPineapple88 · 16/12/2022 15:54

It cannot come soon enough, OP.

Eventually, yes.
So many people have been sucked in to this nonsense.

I had a friend on Twitter who started a thread about her workplace - she is a medical secretary and was tweeting because some of the doctors she worked for refused to use patients preferred pronouns.

I replied that as they were doctors, they were particularly well-placed to know that people cannot change sex.

She blocked me immediately.

This is an agenda coming to fruition. Many of the trans NGO's are funded by the same people worldwide. Women are not the target per se, it is the children. Why are billionaires funding this?

Baldieheid · 16/12/2022 16:11

I fear it won't end in my lifetime, but that when it does, it will make the Jimmy Saville (and other 70s, 80s TV "stars") scandal look like a side bar in the daily fail. The USA is lost. They don't give a toss about schoolkids being gunned down in their classrooms, so why would they care about this? This country has a chance, but it's going to take something horrific to make it change.

TheShellBeach · 16/12/2022 16:15

I wonder the same thing.

Thankfully my kids go to schools and their peers really don’t also seem to be bothered about it all. Thank goodness. No classmates suddenly decided they want to be called Jane instead of Jeremy
How old are your kids?
I am currently working with two 17 year olds who have waited until they left high school so they could be ' free to be the real me' In the last few years I have worked with quite a few 15 and 16 year old as well.

That is so true. Apparently their 2nd Amendment rights are more important than children's lives.

When the PP said 'poor schools' she wasn't referring to poverty stricken schools or schools in impoverished areas.

She was using it as 'unfortunate'- they feel obliged to toe the party line, as opposed to religious and independent schools that may feel more freedom to promote a particular ethos.

I'm not convinced she's right, but I don't think she was looking down her nose at state schools.

I would think power. If you can get people to carry out medical experiments on children all in the name of progress you can get them to do anything.

I suspect that as the current generation of 20-somethings grow up, there will be a shift away from pronoun/identity politics. It’s harder to maintain outside of a university environment, if you’re working and in a more professional setting. Furthermore, I imagine that as it becomes an established identity held by 30 and 40 somethings, it will be less appealing to teens, and that aspect will fizzle somewhat.

I feel this; unfortunately the embedment in schools, which will include staff (teaching is mostly female and I've already noticed there are growing numbers of trans men entering the profession) will potentially result in making it very difficult to balance appropriate teaching on this subject. Which will influence teens.

Though the oldies thinking they're hip effect may come into play in about 10 years.

WarriorN · 16/12/2022 17:04

Where there's potentially a big push back is increasing awareness of and research into women's bodies -sport, medicine, fitness etc. the differences are huge. Invisible women etc.

Englands Women's football team clearly used modern methods of training which includes awareness of cycles. There's also a lot of current sports research into brain injuries among female football and rugby players.

Awareness of menopause among younger women is growing etc.

I think in a decade young women and girls will be more empowered in these areas. Hopefully also for girls' hormones etc causing awful symptoms which is potentially another driver to transition.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 16/12/2022 17:06

I think it won’t survive as long as some people fear. There is an increasing pushback from gay men (based on an unscientific view of tweets). They are resentful that their history and lifestyle is being rewritten from a trans perspective. I think their voice will be difficult for the pseudo liberals to ignore.
Add a couple of expensive lawsuits from detransitioners in the US and it will become harder to defend medicalised responses.
In the meantime the push to strengthen the EA and repeal the GRA could have long term benefits.
It’s painful and horrible but partly thanks to the fuss at Edinburgh Uni 30k people have watched AHF on YouTube

nauticant · 16/12/2022 17:09

I'm waiiting for the first major celeb to find they have an indocrinated child and publicly come out and say "No thank you".

It wouldn't surprise me for a seemingly very small catalyst like that to make awareness and speaking up spread suddenly.

PermanentTemporary · 16/12/2022 17:17

Not very likely re the celebs. There are loads who mention their trans child - most very sensitively and clearly with permission- and for those who don't it will be because it's too painful and private. Any celeb who washed that kind of linen in public would quite rightly lose credibility.

It has such a tiny impact on my life and I really only read about it ever on mumsnet, i doubt I’ll ever reach that point

Unfortunately it's having a massive impact on my life.

PermanentTemporary · 16/12/2022 17:21

Depends on what people mean by 'my life. It's affecting people I know, my work, my sport.

But it should, or you are part of the problem. Don't you see that?

Why “should” it.

I am a single working parent.

outside of my family, my children, my work and my health… my external concerns are alcohol dependency and campaigning for more understanding and support (deceased parent due to alcoholism).

I just have the time or inclination!

Because women's and girls' rights are being eroded, left, right and centre, just to satisfy the desires of a bunch of men.

Right. So your daughters don’t play sport? And don’t go to something like guides? And won’t be going anywhere on a school overnight trip where a male could be accommodated with them? Ie. Not just your school but other activities with other schools and groups?

Plus your daughters doesn’t go out and use public toilets? Or public changing rooms? Won’t need single sex spaces?

Your daughter won’t ever miss out on an opportunity due to a male getting it instead?

And when that time comes, then It will impact me.

but until that time, then it won’t keep me up at night.

I have other stuff that does that job very well indeed

thewayround · 16/12/2022 17:39

Helleofabore · 16/12/2022 14:19

And none of your children are same sex attracted and may be coerced into accepting an opposite sex partner?

Come again? “Coerced” into a relationship with someone?

that is a whole different issue!
