This is an experimental thread, all input much appreciated!

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Right, bring on the flames or flowers! <cowers>

It's a sign of how closely women's conversations are policed on here by external monitors. I'm always amused at how often leading mens rights activists weigh in on how transphobic this board is - they evidently follow it obsessively and often post with mixed results 😂

Yeah, I've been following the No Evidence to Suggest Abuse of Self-Id thread! 😀

bignosebignose · 21/12/2022 22:22

Posie Parker is back on Twitter, which should annoy plenty of the right(eous) people.

SinnerBoy · 22/12/2022 00:34

Tricyrtis2022,

The comments are disheartening. Seem like the lads don't like their 'fun' being stopped.

I wonder how they'd feel if five blokes kicked their head in outside the pub.
I mean, it's just a lads' night out, right?

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/12/2022 03:50

@CyanCyan Time to get serious re you electricity meter issue. Report him to your freeholder and/ or the energy supplier. Packing a meter cupboard full of items is a fire risk, they are not to be used as storage.

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/12/2022 04:01

I am chair of our management committee (although we are share of freehold not RTM) and the way to deal with officious pricks like that is to get even more officious on their arse.

Write to the committee copying in the freeholder expressing genuine concerns about fire safety in the communal meter cupboards.

mach2 · 22/12/2022 06:28

I was thinking that it must be some sort of offence to block meter access. The man sounds like some ghastly mini-hitler.

Excellent!

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/12/2022 07:08

@mach2 it is certainly very inadvisable and energy companies will take a very dim view. Also it will be most likely be against his lease to use communal areas for personal storage.

Winterborne74 · 22/12/2022 08:25

Nothing useful to add on the officious prick front @CyanCyan except moral support. Hope you manage to get him to back off with as little grief/stress as possible.

This quote (possibly from Keynes) just randomly popped into my head and I thought I'd put it here, in the context of the Bundle Of Good Beliefs That Must Never Be Questioned thing: "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"

I'm a Labour Party member, but I won't be voting Labour whilst they persist with this ridiculous policy. When are Starmer and Co going to wake up and smell the coffee?

duc748 · 22/12/2022 15:53

Kucingsparkles · 22/12/2022 08:51

It's almost like no-one thought it through when they took some essentially meaningless phrase, and wrote it direct into legislation.

Britinme · 22/12/2022 20:48

And I just heard on the radio that the Spanish government has approved a bill on transgender rights, along Scottish lines.

Britinme · 22/12/2022 20:52

One of the things that upsets me most is the aligning of people with GC viewpoints with the political right, as evidenced in that linked article:

Tensions around the legislation prompted Socialist LGBTQ activist Carla Antonelli – the first and only trans woman to serve as a lawmaker – to resign from the party after decades of activism.

"We have seen part of the Socialist party and the feminist movement go from defending the rights of the trans minority to ruthlessly boycotting our very existence," she wrote in an op-ed published by El Pais on Thursday.

I've never been right wing in my life, but I know reality when I see it, and when I see solid left-wing writers like Suzanne Moore and Julie Bindel pushed out to right wing papers because left-wing media sources won't give them room, I think it's absurd. They haven't suddenly become right-wingers.

It's one of the major techniques to slur/attack/dismiss nonbelievers in Genderism or any sources that attempt to report anything but the most glowing glittery rainbows about it.

There's going to be a kerfuffle between Holyrood and Westminster, which, as some have suggested here, may have been Sturgeon's intent all along.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4692698-womens-rights-general-conversations?page=36&reply=122485274

Westminster may resort to using powers that it has never wielded before as the row with Scotland over its controversial gender reforms bill escalated. The Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill was passed yesterday to jeers of 'shame on you' in Holyrood.

The vote puts MSPs on a constitutional collision course with Westminster as UK ministers consider the 'nuclear option' of stopping the bill from going for royal assent.

ExiledElsie · 23/12/2022 07:43

I had a discussion with my son about this, he thinks I am worried about nothing. He also did the "look who agrees with you, doesn't it concern you?"

When we talk again I will ask him why his caring liberal mother has apparently morphed into a bigot.

He was tipsy and was hopelessly misinformed on lots of points. For example, he thinks a woman who wanted a female carer could still ask for one could trust that any carer described as female would be so.

I'm going to discuss it again when he's sober.

bignosebignose · 23/12/2022 08:10

Glinner (Graham Linehan) is back on the Tweeter. I’ve always liked that Musk fella.

Kucingsparkles · 23/12/2022 08:12

DH is (a) a molecular biologist, an atheist and a materialist, as am I (b) 100% in agreement with the overall picture of Genderism being a load of faith-based bollocks that has been embraced into the Bundle of Good Beliefs by shallow-thinking people desperate to signal Righteousness.

And yet in a conversation yesterday about All This <gestures helplessly around> he suddenly wailed, "It just can't be as extreme as you're suggesting! Surely, surely your MN people are just talking about the worst-case scenarios??"

If it's so bogglingly ridiculous for those of us who are well-versed, just think (or see when this topic escapes into Wider MN) how bonkers it looks if you've been deliberately kept in the dark by governments, lobby groups, the mainstream media, etc. It's just too much for the public to get their heads around, and perhaps that is the very reason that Genderism has captured so many spaces.

OP posts:
StephanieSuperpowers · 23/12/2022 08:14

Well, even if we were just talking about the worst case scenarios, why should they not be considered? Especially since many have happened, at least once.

Dotellhimpike · 23/12/2022 08:16

Glad to see Glinner back on the twitters, like KJK I don't always agree with them 100% but they are both loud voices that get heard, and overall a force for good.

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/12/2022 08:17

I'm against purity tests now. I no longer need to agree with anyone on any issue to appreciate their perspective.

bignosebignose · 23/12/2022 08:46

I only caught the last couple of minutes in the car so must go back to listen later but the 8.10 slot on Today was about Scotland, and Justin Webb - speaking to Baroness Kennedy - used words like legal fiction and untruth.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/12/2022 08:51

If it is orchestrated to spur a bid for independence then it could so easily backfire with a large number thinking 'not yet, too dangerous while the monkeys are running the circus'.
