This is an experimental thread, all input much appreciated!

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Right, bring on the flames or flowers! <cowers>

They can just identity as blokes, probably.

Hang in there, sisters! (Sorry, making myself angry again)

There is so much "information" out there claiming that transwomen are at more risk of murder due to transphobia that I started believing it. No longer.

This is also a good summary (even if it is the critic):

I haven't read this yet but Maya recommends it so I will when I get time later..

Helpful article by Michael Foran on the interaction between the GRA, the Equality Act and the Scotland Act

Tldr: UK gov could suspend enactment of GRR until they sort out the Equality Act

A note on what's happened in Scotland that may give us something to feel better about... Labour plans to bring in same measures if elected in a general election. The storm this has caused in Scotland and the massive pushback just might give them pause for thought. Also we have the House of Lords which the Scottish Parliament doesn't. Chin up! It's not over yet.

IReallyLikeCrows · 21/12/2022 16:34

@CyanCyan , that's a good article, particularly where the person is pushed to report something as a hate crime for the statistics. I think that there are a lot of innocents being dragged into a lie that they have been led to believe is the truth. I believed it, why wouldn't someone who is being told that victimhood is a core part of their personality. You can't just be trans or non-binary or ... you must also be a victim of bigotry and possible violence. Some people though, those at the top of the TRA know that it's all lies and they should be ashamed of themselves. The similarities between TRA and MRA are notable.

There was a trans activist on Radio 4 last night. She was very amenable, no frothing and rage but I wish she'd been pulled up on one thing. She said that all this Scot's thing amounted to was being allowed to change your gender on your birth certificate. All the other complexities aside I wanted the interviewer to say, "It's sex on the birth certificate not gender."

If you can change it then it really isn't sex any more, unfortunately.

The first man to be convicted of cat calling a woman in a town centre. Is it a good sign? I mean, will a few more of these idiots being taken to task teach other not to behave so?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11562517/Man-catcalled-woman-one-UK-100-fine-sexual-harassment.html

A man who catcalled a woman on a London street has become one of the first in the UK to be slapped with a £100 fine for sexual harassment after he was caught in an undercover police operation.

The offender - who was not named - was issued a fixed penalty notice for harassing a woman in Ilford town centre last Friday.

The fee was handed to the offender using the council's Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). The PSPO was created initially to empower council enforcement officers to fine people soliciting sex in the area.

The comments are disheartening. Seem like the lads don't like their 'fun' being stopped.

StephanieSuperpowers · 21/12/2022 17:06

Well, they'll have to adjust to the new reality - it's not fun unless everyone is having fun.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/12/2022 17:10

I wish...

And this is one of the ramifications of that.

That's really rubbish, CyanCyan. Can't your neighbours offer a bit more support?

Kucingsparkles · 21/12/2022 19:21

That sounds terrible @CyanCyan, what an absolute arse.

We’re going to get some legal advice in the new year but I’m doubtful we’ll be able to do anything to revoke RTM. I never thought it was a good idea with 80+ flats in the building but only half a dozen of us objected. Maybe it’s time to get the patio repaved.

Kucingsparkles · 21/12/2022 19:34

The topic escaped out into AIBU, caused horror and outrage amongst the wider MN audience, and was swiftly disappeared into FWR - the Righteous monitors are on a hair trigger.

Righteousness never rests.

CyanCyan · 21/12/2022 19:41

I saw that in AIBU 10 mins ago. Ffs.

CyanCyan · 21/12/2022 19:43

They’ve moved it back to AIBU.

duc748 · 21/12/2022 20:30

I read a post from MNHQ saying sorry, and they'd moved it back. It certainly (and unsurprisingly) caused consternation.

Gonners · 21/12/2022 21:02

I'm impressed that MNHQ reacted so quickly in reversing that move. There are good questions being asked by people who haven't been following the story and wouldn't otherwise be aware of it.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/12/2022 21:08

It's a sign of how closely women's conversations are policed on here by external monitors. I'm always amused at how often leading mens rights activists weigh in on how transphobic this board is - they evidently follow it obsessively and often post with mixed results 😂
