Women’s Equality Party votes for Self-ID

AnonGCMum · 26/11/2022 20:37

I gather from reading Twitter that the WEP has today voted to support self ID. I’ve looked, but I can’t find the text of the motion that was voted for. Has anyone seen it? I’ve seen Sophie Walker’s open letter asking members to vote against mobile.twitter.com/SophieRunning/status/1596036529209724929

More generally, is the WEP worth getting involved with? I like the idea of a feminist party but if they’re going down the self-ID/TWAW route then it’s not for me.

This thread is full of people advocating working with the far right

So is this one

But I appreciate that many of you are in the process of creating your own reality where any video evidence is a fraud so you will no doubt deny these too

Yes!! Please readers... if you have missed these threads, please do read them.

Now you have two threads in mind ministry, could you please cut and paste the posts that you find are 'working' with the far right?

Rather than allowing people of the far right to say their piece and allow people to make up their own mind.

Or, have you redefined 'working with', to mean sit on a panel and discuss things from another view point, or to speak your view at a seminar where people you don't agree with are also speaking ... or is it that if a person also agrees that water is wet that they should be denounced as spreading falsehoods about water being wet because they came to that view point from a different aspect to you?

If you cannot allow people to voice another opinion, one that you disagree with, doesn't that make you a bigot? Doesn't that make you narrow minded? Doesn't that make you the one that is very intolerant?

So, yes readers. Do read these links.

And I look forward to seeing ministry's examples of particular posts that are from regular posters and show that those posters are 'far right' or 'working with' the 'far right' in the way that ministry means.

Helleofabore · 28/11/2022 11:53

Unless poster is actually recruiting for the far right and is useing repetition of the words "far right " as some sort of subliminal Jedi mind trick. As I'm not sure why else he/she would parrot those words in Every Post

It is very funny to see, isn't it?

I think they think that people will not go and read the links and the links that others have posted, like the rest of that Pink News/You Gov survey... you know the rest of it that showed that superficial statistic to be a lie when reviewed in the broader survey answers.

Looking forward to more of that kind of evidence.

nilsmousehammer · 28/11/2022 12:27

Helleofabore · 28/11/2022 10:08

I know.

And we will just keep pushing back with evidence to refute the poor interpretations that are repeated.

It's the issue in microcosm, isn't it?

"I identify as This being True!"

"Yeah but factually it isn't, is it? Look at the evidence."

"I identify as their being no evidence and it still being true and you denying it because [insert current worst slur that can be thought of] and you hang out with [insert Hitler/anyone else that might throw a bit of mud on them]"

Being reasonable requires two parties capable of reasonability and with shared meaning. You cannot make policy and law and practice based on someone's personal reality and their emotional reactions when others refuse to indulge them in this.

nilsmousehammer · 28/11/2022 12:32

Why IS the phrase 'far right' synonymous with 'worst possible evil anyone could think of'?

We don't actually HAVE that kind of far right in the UK. It doesn't exist. It's a US import and is totally irrelevant here. The Tories would be middle left in US terms.

Authoritarianism is a belief of the American far right AND the British far left, and neither of them believe in rights for women, homosexuals, or child safeguarding. Or freedom of speech.

Kucinghitam · 28/11/2022 12:51

I read those kinds of posts as the Righteous equivalent of "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!" and "I fart in your general direction!" Grin

Helleofabore · 28/11/2022 12:54

Kucinghitam

The posters also come over a bit like 'brave brave Sir Robin'... Like they are used to people running behind them with coconut shells galloping like a horse ....

Helleofabore · 28/11/2022 12:55

So, ministry when you think of horseshoe politics and authoritarianism.... at what point does the far right become the far left?

Birdsweepsin · 28/11/2022 12:56

I hope this isn't going too far, right, but I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this thread from afar. Right now things are tough for the WEP and my favourite Disney villain is Jafar, right?

ministry's contributions are also an excellent example of Brandolini's law.

There are many people on the threads I quoted advocating for alliances with the extreme right.

There are even more people on this thread denying that it is happening.

MinistryofCheer · 28/11/2022 14:52

Still interesting to see the way that those who point out this ebarrassing state of affairs are piled on, ridiculed and silenced- whilst those who advocate for allying with the extreme right are treated with sympathy and respect.

I think it's largely nonsense.

QED

Really?

can you post where people have been attempting to ‘silence’ you? We are here asking you questions and for you to evidence your opinion which involves some pretty negative prejudices. At least one of your posts made some rather false statements that seem to have been deleted.

And ridicule? Yeah? Hyperbole much ?

MinistryofCheer · 28/11/2022 14:52

And yet, not ‘totally’ nonsense. Because the far right and its intolerance and tactics mimic the far left.

I'd say it is the opposite of silencing, that posters are actively encouraging undecided lurkers to read the thread links you provided.

Here, I'll do it too - Dear undecided lurkers, please do read all the thread links which allegedly demonstrate what has been claimed, and make up your own minds!

QED

By the way, which posters on this thread have been treated with 'sympathy'? For what?

Respect? Yeah. For making arguments that are coherent, and easily checked and verified. If you can do the same, then maybe some of that respect will be extended to you.

No poster on MN owes another respect. Civil interaction, yes. But not respect.

And certainly not for thinking that their contribution that started out making unfounded accusations about 'strong links to the far right in the US and around the world' and just continued to spiral from there, was worth anything more than questioning.

However, it seems that FKATondelayo is wrong.

Projection.
Misrepresentation.
Citation needed.
Argument from popularity
Ad hominem

Needs a 'claiming victim status' added to it after that post...

Specific quotations please rather than links to threads that do nothing to demonstrate this allegation.

I always thought it was a right wing position to shut down conversation and to refuse to listen to another persons point of view. Which seems to be what genderists think is right wing. it's confusing.

To the tune of Irreplaceable by Beyoncé

To the right, to the right

Put everyone on Mumsnet in a box on the right
Believe this shoddy evidence, that’s my plea
I’ll say you’re from the far right if you don’t agree

I’ll keep talking that mess, I think I’m fine
Even though I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time
‘You’re so mean’ will be my refrain
If you ever ask me to explain

You must not know ‘bout me
You must not know ‘bout me
I see Nazis every minute
Even though they’re not really a thing in the UK, baby
