Women’s Equality Party votes for Self-ID

I gather from reading Twitter that the WEP has today voted to support self ID. I’ve looked, but I can’t find the text of the motion that was voted for. Has anyone seen it? I’ve seen Sophie Walker’s open letter asking members to vote against mobile.twitter.com/SophieRunning/status/1596036529209724929

More generally, is the WEP worth getting involved with? I like the idea of a feminist party but if they’re going down the self-ID/TWAW route then it’s not for me.

Aha! I missed that, Hepwo, but yep:

'WE have over 65,000 members and supporters'

Meaningless fucking waffle, then. I wonder how many paid members they have.

Tartifletti · 27/11/2022 15:09

I was involved with them at the start but they were useless over Brexit and useless ever since.

WEP is a private members club for earnest posh ladies that likes to cosplay as a political party. Even by the standards of the freemasons it is undemocratic and cliquey. Sandy T and Catherine M elected themselves leaders for life and they ignored the results of their own membership self-ID consultation. They didn't even want to have a conference for wider membership.

Mandu Reid got a whopping 0.8% of the vote share when she stood for Mayor this year, just behind Count Binface.

I don't know about the truth of this, but beautifully worded 😆

Hm. Running at a deficit for the past couple of years, it seems.

They were captured from the off. Anything with 'women' in the title has been a target for male take over and control.

ArabellaScott · 27/11/2022 15:30

I was thinking today, too, how the use of 'Equality' is maybe a bit of a giveaway for the party not being serious about women's rights. Surely everyone has known women need equity, not equality, for a very long time now? It can't be operating on very firm foundations if it's aiming for actual equality, because women and men have different needs, different lives, different issues when we're talking about fairness.

Surely as soon as you recognise the need for equity, you recognise the differing needs women have, and understand that many of those are rooted in our biology?

Ah, but if you think woman doesn't mean "adult human female" but means "anybody who likes pink fluff and glitter, wears frilly satin undercrackers and weeps a lot," then instead you'll be thinking that those differing needs are "better selection of nail varnish and lip gloss" - there's a kind of logic there, if you squint very hard.

ArabellaScott · 27/11/2022 15:46

Then they need to rename as the Feminine Equality Party and campaign for hairdressing regulations, or something.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 27/11/2022 15:49

The Aligned Genderists Party has a certain ring to it..

It's bang on.

Well done the Women's Equality Party. Most people are in favour of Self ID except a small group of reactionaries who have a lot of influence in the UK media- (and increasingly strong links to the far right in the US and around the world)

ArabellaScott · 27/11/2022 17:30

Oh, please. Get some better arguments. These are too easy to disprove.

Only 138 people voted for the motion. That is not "most people".

WEP has disintegrated over this. An angry 70 something transgender male demanded the sacking of a woman and got it. The race to the bottom didn't take long after that. Any time a transgender male gets involved in a women's organisation it's destroyed from that moment on. What they have achieved with their attempts at colonisation is a far stronger women's movement which is everywhere, not trapped in constipated and ineffective politics.

MinistryofCheer · 27/11/2022 18:30

According to opinion polls most people in theUK-support Self ID-This little group on Mumsnet are outliers.
That's why there are more and more posters calling for alliances with the extreme right- the other group apart from the Mumsnet posse who are opposed to self- ID.

how many voted against?

I've seen that 83 per cent voted in favour so that would be around 28

'opinion polls'

wingsoverscotland.com/transforming-the-question/

'English women were 2:1 against self-ID on the first question, more than 3:1 against identifying females as fathers on birth certificates, and more than 5:1 against letting people with penises into their changing rooms.'

And even YouGov, historically tends to push 'trans rights':

yougov.co.uk/topics/society/articles-reports/2022/07/20/where-does-british-public-stand-transgender-rights

'By 60% to 17%, Britons think the legal process should continue to require a doctor’s approval, and by a similar 59% to 15%, Britons say transgender people should continue to have to show they have lived in their new gender for two years before the change can be legally accepted.'

i read a lot of empty and angry fulmination on your links- rather like on here

is that the house style?

The fact remains that you are in a considerable minority.

Thanks goodness.

thats why there are so many pleas to pal up with the extreme right.

Some of you will stop at nothing,.

ArabellaScott · 27/11/2022 18:43

The house style? Of YouGov?

ArabellaScott · 27/11/2022 18:43

You didn't read the articles, did you?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/11/2022 18:44

About 8k I read somewhere.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/11/2022 18:48

The fact remains that you are in a considerable minority.

Wrong. The majority of women unsurprisingly say they want penis-free toilets and changing rooms whenever the question is asked.

They also don't agree with legal gender self ID or it being made easier to change legal sex. The population overwhelmingly reject the idea of males competing in the female category. You aren't up to speed. But you can educate yourself by reading the links kindly provided. Or don't. Up to you.

One day you're going to come into contact with reality, and it will hit you like a fucking high-speed train.
