Women’s Equality Party votes for Self-ID

I gather from reading Twitter that the WEP has today voted to support self ID. I’ve looked, but I can’t find the text of the motion that was voted for. Has anyone seen it? I’ve seen Sophie Walker’s open letter asking members to vote against mobile.twitter.com/SophieRunning/status/1596036529209724929

More generally, is the WEP worth getting involved with? I like the idea of a feminist party but if they’re going down the self-ID/TWAW route then it’s not for me.

Oooh its the battle of the rhymes...

<flicks hair>

Ministry stretching reality
Statistics are very lacking quality
So we'll tar everybody with the racist brush
Cos the transphobic label didn't make 'em hush.
Scrabbling around to link the far right
When everybody knows thats a load of old shite.
Biology dictates that a male with a phallus
Can never act-u-ally ever be an 'Alice'.
Women just want to feel safe and protected
In spaces for WOMEN. Instead of detecting
An unexpected penis in the bagging area;
Getting wrongly accused of hysteria.
Young girls and women want privacy to pee,
Wash blood off their hands and cry if they need.
I'm miscarrying, but if I tried to inform ya,
I'd only be told I shouldn't weaponise my trauma.
We're not bigoted for not inviting assault
So instead of tantrumming coz you think we're at fault
Why not lobby for tert-i-ary spaces
For folks whose gender ain't in homeostasis?
It's the obvious solution, and its plain to see,
But "No" you stomp, "that doesn't validate ME"!

💖

@TerfranosaurusVagina that's utterly amazing! Love the pace and rhythm (as well as the content, of course).

Imagine nitpicking typos
to support your racist bile
and using Lennon's lyrics
as your feminist poster chile

Ignore how he treated Cynthia
and Yoko Ono too
you don't need to be consistent
when you're backing your far right crew

you may say I'm a hypocrite
but I'm not the only one
When we talk of "people of Rochdale"
we mean Muslims people hated by `The Sun

(that newspaper well known for its fearless support of womens rights)

Good effort, Ministry, the rhymes are good, only let down by the content being yet more strawman bullshit!

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2022 13:57

unexpected penis in the bagging area 😄

RedToothBrush · 01/12/2022 14:47

I love how the rhymes were picked up on and commented on.

But not my point about women rights groups standing still whilst politicians and media abandoned and neglected their duties, creating a vacuum which the far right are opportunitistically trying to populate for their own nefarious agenda.

Its almost like they took the easy option to ignore what I said because it was inconvenient to their world view...

Do crack on, its entertaining to watch on several levels.

Of course, no matter how much these foolish people concede, it's never going to be enough:

Hm. The person criticising them is correct, though. If WEP actually wants to uphold single sex exemptions that is trans-exclusionary.

The only truly 'trans-inclusive' stance is completely mixed sex facilities for everything.

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2022 16:14

It's precisely the same as the Labour Sex Fudge, albeit with the clauses swapped round.

Both Labour and WEP say they will both recognise trans people's self ID'd 'gender' as what they wish it to be, and simultaneously protect single sex spaces.

It's pathetic linguistic sophistry that attempts to straddle two contradictory & mutually exclusive positions.

Either males can be women, or they can't. There is no way to reconcile the two positions. You have to choose.

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2022 16:15

The very simple question is: 'Is it possible to change sex'?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 01/12/2022 16:25

Labour Sex Fudge

🤢

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 01/12/2022 16:28

But joking aside, you can either please the men who want people to pretend they think they’re women, or you can please women who want privacy from men, dignity and safety. You can’t please both

I know which sounds the most worthy

<hands round bag of Labour Sex Fudge>

Yes, I completely agree.

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2022 16:35

Ooh, Labour Sex Fudge. Delicious, even if too much of it does give me the boak.

Kucingsparkles · 01/12/2022 17:37

I knew there was a reason I've never liked fudge!

SidewaysOtter · 01/12/2022 20:48

Labour sex fudge

Is that the one with the nuts in?

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2022 20:51
Grin
ArabellaScott · 01/12/2022 20:52

That's 'Labour's Nutty Sex Fudge'. It's extra.

Sounds like the kind of thing Ed Balls would have danced to on Strictly.

"Yes, that Japanese knotweed of politics, the gender v sex debate, caught hold, could not be tamed and is now pulling down the walls."

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 02/12/2022 22:31

Janice on point as ever

nilsmousehammer · 02/12/2022 22:37

Excellent article.

The final point is a particularly stark one: the transactivists have control of the party. And in owning it have successfully killed it, and it's on its last gasp. 200 at conference. well over 1000 at FiLiA.

Those who keep marching onto threads to inform women that everyone else is pro activism/self ID and against women's rights and child safeguarding, that they are a tiny and failing minority in a surging sea of Better Feminists marching onwards to a glorious end to women's equality - er, why is this party out of members and dying?

The SNP should probably take note.

Helleofabore · 03/12/2022 03:50

Thank you, as ever, Ig for that share. That was another good read.

Another very good article in the Telegraph today (though behind a paywall unfortunately) by Jo Bartosch on the uselessness of the WEP and other 'feminist' organisations.

RhannionKPSS · 03/12/2022 18:35

Another excellent article in The Times. Unfortunately I don’t know how do share tickets, hopefully someone can.
