Women’s Equality Party votes for Self-ID

AnonGCMum · 26/11/2022 20:37

I gather from reading Twitter that the WEP has today voted to support self ID. I’ve looked, but I can’t find the text of the motion that was voted for. Has anyone seen it? I’ve seen Sophie Walker’s open letter asking members to vote against mobile.twitter.com/SophieRunning/status/1596036529209724929

More generally, is the WEP worth getting involved with? I like the idea of a feminist party but if they’re going down the self-ID/TWAW route then it’s not for me.

Just read some of the threads on here.

Exactly. You can't find anything. Please stop. You're not helping this issue as it's polarizing the discussion.

According to opinion polls most people in theUK-support Self ID-This little group on Mumsnet are outliers.
That's why there are more and more posters calling for alliances with the extreme right- the other group apart from the Mumsnet posse who are opposed to self- ID.

Oh dear.

Don’t scratch too far beneath those superficial statistics…

When you drill down further and get to the real life implications of ‘self ID’, that support consistently diminishes. Particularly the part about sport and males using female single sex spaces.

Happy to link up those stats for any reader who has not seen them.

How surprising you either think readers of this board haven’t seen the stats and analysed them or you believe that was a convincing post…

It is like you haven’t spent a day on this board to see that same post come up every single day.

'opinion polls'

wingsoverscotland.com/transforming-the-question/

'English women were 2:1 against self-ID on the first question, more than 3:1 against identifying females as fathers on birth certificates, and more than 5:1 against letting people with penises into their changing rooms.'

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/most-scots-are-opposed-to-gender-self-id-poll-suggests-q0qzkjqnf

murrayblackburnmackenzie.org/2021/12/14/polling-shows-being-supportive-of-transgender-self-expression-is-not-the-same-as-supporting-self-declaration-for-legal-gender-recognition/

And even YouGov, historically tends to push 'trans rights':

yougov.co.uk/topics/society/articles-reports/2022/07/20/where-does-british-public-stand-transgender-rights

'By 60% to 17%, Britons think the legal process should continue to require a doctor’s approval, and by a similar 59% to 15%, Britons say transgender people should continue to have to show they have lived in their new gender for two years before the change can be legally accepted.'

Thanks Arabella.

And of course the more direct questions around sport and use of female single sex spaces contradicts the lovely feeling of wellbeing the top level statistic gives that some posters feel they can use to falsely portray a consensus that dramatically falls apart at the very first dissection of the issue.

But people are going to continue to try that tired, tired old trope.

Just read some of the threads on here.

I encourage any reader to do just that.

I am very glad that you want that too cheer because it will soon become very apparent that probably the majority of posters on MN FWR are either centre or left leaning. I have not seen any 'far right' regular posters that I can recall discussing 'far right' views. So, some maybe but they certainly don't discuss their far right views here.

Or..... like disconnecting the word woman from its common usage for your own political agenda, do you also have a new meaning that you have created for 'far right'.... and by far right you mean 'any poster who doesn't agree with MinistryofCheer's viewpoint?

Because we have had a whole slew of posters who have tried to redefine 'far right' to mean just that....

ArabellaScott · 28/11/2022 10:05

It's tedious out and out lying, Helleofabore. Easily disproved. But some people genuinely seem to think that if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes true.

Ok 'disproving' it is pretty easy.

Dreikanter has posted a question in that very same poll here on this thread that immediately throws your superficial statistic into being questionable. Because they simply don't stack up when further questions are asked.

And two years ago, people had not yet woken up to the males being in the female toilets / changing rooms / rape crisis centres and sports. More people are aware now - even my elderly neighbour.

I encourage Pink News to do this exact same survey again. I would welcome the findings.

MrsJamin · 28/11/2022 10:07

This is the only thread you've ever posted on @MinistryofCheer. Do you ever think that actually, you thinking that men can utter a sentence and literally become a woman is an extreme opinion to hold? How is it extreme to consider that you cannot change sex?

I know.

And we will just keep pushing back with evidence to refute the poor interpretations that are repeated.

Its baffling why you would spend so much time on here arguing with a minority opinion. If is only about eight dinosaurs in an echo chamber, why not just let us natter among ourselves?

Yes me thinks MinistryofCheer doth protest too much.

Such froth towards a group minority group of women is so unnecessary given that Ministry says that our opinions are minority and county for nothing!

lifeturnsonadime · 28/11/2022 10:10

I doubt they would, because other polls show a decrease in support since 2020.

yes... I think I was writing it as more of a challenge than a 'wish'. Because we already know that the more people understand the more people reject 'self ID'. WEP is going against the tide of evidence that self ID is not supportive of the sex based rights for women and girls.

You only have to look at the number of young women who are pushing back hard against Dylan Mulvaney at the moment. Young women are fucked off that a male can reduce their experience of life the way that Mulvaney has. And be celebrated the way Mulvaney has for doing that.

Remember that poster who told us there was a maximum of about 2000 feminists in the entire UK who believed that sex matters and should be prioritised above gender when it does. And that there was a handful of us and we were all sock puppets?

So is this one

But I appreciate that many of you are in the process of creating your own reality where any video evidence is a fraud so you will no doubt deny these too

This is an excellent question.

Unless poster is actually recruiting for the far right and is useing repetition of the words "far right " as some sort of subliminal Jedi mind trick. As I'm not sure why else he/she would parrot those words in Every Post
