But I know I am not alone in beginning to feel like a resource to be tapped.

Yep. I've contributed to crowdfunders and I will again but I have to start being discriminating because I'm a mum doing a job that fits around the needs of my kids and elderly parents and it's not quite minimum wage but I'm sure the head girl feminists that seem to hate KJK earn more than I do.

KJK's t-shirts raise money for her cause but I also end up with something fabulous for me. Which is important to me, and I also think important to women more generally. I think this is a genius and very feminist move on many levels. We become the billboard, we can be quietly GC without having to engage in conversation - just go around wearing our lovely t-shirts.

Middle-aged mothers in particular face a huge motherhood pay gap, I earn 15k less than I did 10 years ago as a result of children and my children's needs requiring more flexibility than my well paid career was willing to give. I work far harder in my lower paid role, incidentally, than I did pre-kids in the role that used my multiple degrees.

If I'm giving up some of that hard earned cash and not spending it on shoes or clubs for my kids, it actually means a lot if I get something in return.

KJK is just wonderful. She might not understand where every woman is coming from (and she admits that, and that's why it's open mic at her events) but I do think she understands the pressure middle aged Mums are under more than many others.

SapphosRock · 22/11/2022 12:50

Do you realise how minimising that is of the women who were emboldened to speak up at the Brighton event? Do you not view women voicing their experiences (and, heaven forbid, their opinions) as positive or important?

I did not mean to minimise the women who spoke and if it came across like that I apologise.

Unfortunately the negative fallout from the event has outweighed the positives. The women who spoke couldn't be heard over the shouting TRAs. The media publicity following the event was mainly around the far right row and Carly May yelling at the baby and calling it a fascist.

A lot of women now hate the Brighton feminists, there have been calls for one of our group to be 'muzzled' and there is even a suggestion on this thread that one of the local feminists reported KJK to the police for hate crime.

When I said nothing positive came from the event, I was really saying a lot of negative things have happened because of it.

Yarnival · 22/11/2022 12:55

We could hear the speakers on the livestream.

Can you please list the things that KJK is directly responsible for from your post?

Because all I can see is other people who should be responsible for their own actions being lumped together as 'negative' outcomes.

A lot of women now hate the Brighton feminists, there have been calls for one of our group to be 'muzzled'

Sin page and fb public group ..... cannot be pointed out enough.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 22/11/2022 12:57

It wasn't KJK's fault that TRAs turned up and shouted;
It wasn't KJK's fault that idiot shouted at a baby;
IT wasn't KJK's fault that men you don't agree with filmed an event being held in a public space and streamed it in accordance with their rights under the law;
It is not KJK's fault that the media chooses to focus on people other than the brave women speaking;
It is not KJK's fault that Brighton feminists choose to focus on people other than the brave women speaking.
Any "hate" Brighton feminists are receiving (you are using hyperbole and emotive language for exasperation) is self inflicted. Tell them to stop spreading lies about KJK and act like the sisters they expect everybody else to be to them.

Yarnival · 22/11/2022 12:57

The AGCL page is doing way more harm to your Brighton feminists.

Blaming K-JK is very short-sighted.

You are missing the elephant in your own room.

SapphosRock · 22/11/2022 12:58

I never said any of it was KJK's fault!

It's just a shame.

theperfumes · 22/11/2022 13:03

This.

I'm more than happy to support Kellie-Jay and am 100% behind her actions but I am becoming very wary of the increasing number of crowdfunders for court cases that seem to be primarily about raising the profile of the initiator.

As mentioned above women are not just a tap to be turned on for cash.

Helleofabore · 22/11/2022 13:05

SapphosRock · 22/11/2022 12:58

I never said any of it was KJK's fault!

It's just a shame.

ok.

it is a shame.

But then those who are responsible for their actions need to step up and own it.

And really.... A lot of women now hate the Brighton feminists... I lay the blame for that at the feet of the Brighton feminists.

Who still have a sin page dedicated to another woman who is simply working differently to them.

And to a public Facebook page with the name Actual Gender Critical Left where some members are posting under their own name clearly poor faith posts about that individual.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 22/11/2022 13:06

Stop being disingenuous. You were slinging plenty of fault at KJK on the other thread. In particular, claiming she should have been policing who was filming the event.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/11/2022 13:11

I’m starting to worry that left wing politics rot the brain

When I said nothing positive came from the event, I was really saying a lot of negative things have happened because of it.

The person who was asked to be muzzled, made a point of starting a hashtag #FUCKOFFPOSIE, and is generally to be found on Twitter, under ever Tweet on Posie, either badmouthing her, or trying to undermine Standing for Women. Infact, I wouldn't be surprised if she was the person who logged this false and spurious accusation against Posie.

I was at the Brighton event and heard Women just fine (it was possible to, if you were standing near the Front) and I disagree with your assessment that Brighton was a negative event. It was a wonderful day, where women all over the country got to meet and connect over our shared life experiences, and how gender ideology is impacting us and our children, and socialise in a pub afterwards. Only to see the poisonous bile of the Brighton Feminists afterwards clearly trying to ruin a good occasion, because they are jealous of Posie.

If "The media publicity following the event was mainly around the far right row", then that's the fault of the Brighton Feminists, then isn't it @SapphosRock ?

After all, they made a point of focusing on 3 allegedly right wing people and their mobile camera, rather than the 200/300 participants and the wonderful speakers. They even ignored the TRA terrors who threw smokebombs, brought knives and were consistently verbally abusive towards Gender Critical folk that day.

Your dislike for Posie consumes you. And you'd rather bring her down, than see us win, collectively as a movement. Very skewed priorities.

Well, Posie isn't going anywhere, so Brighton Feminists can just go off and do their own thing. You won't be getting my money. I don't support women who look to undermine other women's work.

Oh really, that's not how you're coming across.

If you're constantly being mis-read you might want to preview your posts before posting.

Helleofabore · 22/11/2022 13:18

To be fair, I am not sure that Sapphos does dislike KJK.

sapphos are the people who are running the website and the posting on that fb page representative of the general feeling about KJK in the Brighton Feminists?

Or are they outliers?

MoirasSaggyBundles · 22/11/2022 13:19

@SapphosRock I'm also pretty sure that I recall you saying on the other thread something along the lines of outsiders not understanding the "culture" in Brighton and so shouldn't come and protest there. As if the people who have created this culture - TRAs and their panderers - own the bloody town like a mafia. Fuck that, anybody should be able to protest in their country anywhere.

Helleofabore · 22/11/2022 13:20

Thanks Birdsweepin.

HatefulHaberdashery · 22/11/2022 13:24

Atta woman. She's so amazingly tenacious and gritty. I love that she doesn't scare easily. Brighton Police definitely messed with the wrong one, there!

@Helleofabore - That was a collective "you" in regards to @SapphosRock post. I believe a lot of the Brighton Feminists, as well a great number of WPUK leadership and affiliates, genuinely dislike her, hence these otherwise inexplicable bullying and drama, every time the woman so much as moves.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/11/2022 13:30

Wine
Helleofabore · 22/11/2022 13:30

Thanks for that Haberdashery.

Your dislike for Posie consumes you. And you'd rather bring her down, than see us win, collectively as a movement. Very skewed priorities.

It's not hard to see why people are wary of people, particularly those who used to be more sympathetic to TRAs, who do this.

Can you imagine the consequences of any of that clique disagreeing with Ali Ceesay! I think Sappho is going to find out if she suggests "working together".

BellaAmorosa · 22/11/2022 13:38

@Birdsweepsin

She's not going

As expected. Good for her.

FOJN · 22/11/2022 13:42

Has the HOO/baby screamer debacle really been resurrected to derail this thread?

I haven't heard KJK even reference Brighton feminists never mind say anything negative about them but she seems to be of great interest to them. I'm sure she's flattered to learn she wields so much power that without saying a word about them she can make people hate them. Maybe Brighton feminists can provide evidence for the prosecution.

beastlyslumber · 22/11/2022 13:43

I'm just quietly amused that whoever is trying to get KJK arrested will now be sitting at home, watching the updates and must surely be thinking, "what the hell have I done..." Hahaha what a foolish person. And if they're not thinking that, they're even more foolish. Not everyone can be a tactical genius like KJK, but you could at least try not to kick the ball away from your own net once in a while.
