Why? What is the endgame for TRAs

Brefugee · 31/10/2022 14:22

I keep wondering why this is all happening now. What was the actual trigger point of people like Nicola Sturgeon becoming so adamant that the rights of Trans people have to be promoted and fought for at this time?

Why is it desireable that GRCs be obtainable so quickly? Does it all go back to Foucault and his post-modernist cronies? What is it that Sturgeon and Trudeau and other governments who are falling over themselves to push a trans-agenda up to? what is in it for them?

To be clear: I'm not rabidly anti-trans and up to now it hasn't really impinged on my life in any other way (I did know two transwomen way back but have lost touch. I do know a couple of young transmen and they seem fine but i don't know them well). I am painfully aware, of course, that other people's lives are being hugely impacted by this (seemingly?) sudden surge in transwomen and am very keen, as a 2nd wave feminist, that women are protected and allowed to live their lives and achieve their full potential in any way they can/want to. (so I'm not TWAW - i'm in favour of either fully proper unisex spaces or 3rd spaces)

I just don't get why. Why now? Why Canada? Why Scotland? Why anywhere?

thank you all - certainly something to think about. I have a book by Kathleen Stock so maybe i should start there.

Stock's book is good but quite academic. I would suggest Trans by Helen Joyce is an easier introduction then go back to Stocks.

Brefugee · 31/10/2022 17:54

I'm ok with academic, thanks, but I'll try Trans too.

TheClogLady · 31/10/2022 18:15

They are both excellent books but Joyce’s is one anyone can pick up and get a good understanding of the issues and Stock’s is perhaps aimed at people who already know and understand the issues and are on board from a feminist viewpoint (whereas some people are coming in from free speech or child protection angles).

I agree but they are both good books. In answer to your question, I am afraid it is a multi-stranded thing (with money in the mix there somewhere) but at least one of these multiple strands is pedophilia.
It happened before with PIE and the Labour party in the 1970s had a connection; but at the time (yes I am old) I couldn't or wouldn't believe such things of 'my' Labour Party.
I now vote Conservative. Some of their MPs were also captured by gender identity ideology in those cross party groups...hence Theresa May's gobsmacking quote 'Being trans is not a mental illness' Someone needs to follow the lobbyist money....I think the Tories maybe were less captured as they had more reliable funding sources than the left/Libdems and also because the ideology really strains many strands of traditional Conservative values.

TheKeatingFive · 31/10/2022 18:28

The Green Party has form when it comes to taking liberal permissiveness too far - at great cost to the vulnerable

worldcrunch.com/culture-society/the-ugliest-open-secret-of-german-politics-pedophiles-in-the-green-party039s-past

The left are poor at engaging with when they've gotten things wrong. I doubt this will be any different. But the pendulum of public opinion is swinging back to greater sanity I think.

in terms of what they want? The eradication of biological sex as a key defining characteristic, to be replaced with their woolly definition of 'gender'. But too many eyes are being opened now. Too much sunlight.

VerveClique · 31/10/2022 18:29

Yes excellent post @KatMcBundleFace

Basically the barriers to entry are very low and there are lots of incentives to join… and lots of disincentives to leave.

In any disaster situation it’s always a combination of conspiring factors.

In any significant social change there need to be advocates from across the political spectrum.

So this is a perfect and disastrous storm.

TheKeatingFive · 31/10/2022 18:30

I keep meaning to read Stock's book. As a philosopher, lesbian and clearly not one for kow-towing to the mob, I can only imagine how immensely frustrating this bollocks is for her. She's a legend for hanging in there.

TheKeatingFive · 31/10/2022 18:34

In any significant social change there need to be advocates from across the political spectrum.

Its interesting to sit back and realise how many groups have things to gain from this.

However, I think the key strategic error the trans lobby have made us failing to keep LGB on board. Lesbians have woken up (mostly) and gay men are starting too.

Brefugee · 31/10/2022 18:39

one of the most (not the most, but pretty high on the list) in all this is how i can't now in good conscience vote for the greens (I'm in Germany - we're well along the path to Self ID)

OP posts:
JanieAllen · 31/10/2022 18:42

Patrick Harvie of the Scottish Greens is the dictionary definition of 'misogyny' - he called women who won't bow down to this ideology 'domestic terrorists' during discussion of the Hate Crimes Bill in the Scottish Parliament. I'll never vote Green again.

Everything they want, whenever they want it.

I don't honestly think the bulk of them have thought it through.

I agree with this.

It’s like asking “what is the endgame for this red faced, angry toddler who is screaming for ice cream right now?”

That it’s proved to be a magnet for so many with their own agendas should have been obvious, but ICE CREAM NOW!

Apparantly the big money to be made in the pharmaceutical industry is from creating new medications that have never existed before.

How do you create a new medicine? You invest ALOT of money in R&D to cure dofficult diseases ( cancer cure) or a new illness appears.

Well, putting humans on cross sex hormones creates a whole new patient, with a whole new set of illnesses.... So many medicines to be made! It's an absolute cash cow.

That, and trans people need medication for life.

And that's before surgery cost. Apparantly surgery can go up to the $1,000,000. These are perfectly healthy people who may not have ever even needed minor surgery.

So there is ALOT of money to be made here, timatelt turning healthy humans into medically dependant beings.

For me, the only way a politician can barge through policies that are clearly unpopular and problematic is if they have been paid to do so.

BlessedKali · 31/10/2022 21:58

Rest of my theory:

High profile AGPs who want to break down all boundaries for their own gains, regardless of damage done to others, in classic narcisstic fashion.

This is aided by young social justice warriors, who have been trapped inside for two years and have pent up anger, anger at our broken economy, out broken society, impending ecological collapse. This is a perfect wayto vent that fury, at who? MUMS. Cos it's always easy to take out angst at mums.

This is just MY theory.

JacquelinePot · 31/10/2022 22:30

Yes, Blessed, but this started getting crazy before lockdown and the roots formed yeeeears ago.

You reminded me of M. Rothblatt, who literally wrote the book on transhumanism. Bodies as meat lego to be crafted, swapped, upgraded, disposed of.

Throw into the mix the ever-increasing ratio of so-called left-wing teachers/lecturers/academics who have been promoting their views about boundary pushing/social justice/"the next civil rights movement" to children, teens and young adults for years. These young adults do/attempt to proselytize to their parents and then bring their views into the workplace where HR is full of acolytes who have gobbbled up the same ideology via their CIPD training and then roll it out to their companies/Gov departments/industry governing bodies/unions etc.

We really shouldn't underestimate the impact of the internet and smartphones, either. The book iGen by Jean Twenge is good on this, although it's very US-centric. I think it goes a long way to explaining why teens get sucked in.

JanieAllen · 31/10/2022 22:33

I went past the window of H&M this evening - they were selling children's T shirts 'hear my voice' on them... I can't help thinking there's a lot of so call progressive posturing which isn't doing people or children much good.

I don't think anyone really knows......

Ideas

1/ USA libertarianism. The ultimate liberationism, in a free market anyone can be anyone. That includes remodelling your body to reflect your "soul".

2/ USA capitalism. Can the American health care system be trusted on this? When they make a profit out of making physically healthy people dependent on drugs for the rest of their lives.

3/ Queer Theory. Boundary pushing, to change a society that they see as centering people who are heterosexual or haven't got gender dysphoria. Power struggle by those who "feel" oppressed.
There are also those in this group who wish to erode boundaries around age of consent. Like PIE in the 70s. Eroding women's sex based rights helps a certain type of person too.....

4/ Finding a tribe /rebellion. There's definitely a social contagion element to all of this. Young people especially want to fit in with the Rainbow. It's belonging to something and now the letters are as long as the alphabet, anyone who wants to can. The QT elements are the only thing my kids and I disagree about, nothing else to rebel against. It is almost spiritual with holy days, and months of observance. Maybe humans need that? To believe in something beyond science eg humans can change sex.

5/ There is no doubt the Internet has magnified and sped up social changes of all types. Protests seem more fragmented and niche, as the culture wars heat up. And yet the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

6/ Mental health. I do think the worsening of mental health, especially amongst the young is a factor. Our lack of understanding of neuro diverse people doesn't help either.

7/ Puritanism. "The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have a chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior 'righteous indignation' — this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats." Aldous Huxley

8/ Virtue Signalling. Politicians and institutions definitely saw this as an easy win. Get brownie points from the youth and all you've really got to do is open the loos to all comers.

9/ Homophobia. In fundamentalist religions it seems to be better to trans away the gay. We've seen this frequently in some cultures and it was mentioned in by Tavistock whistle blowers.

10/ Keeping the lobby group staff paid. After the great battles for equal rights for LGB people had been won, what next for the Stonewalls of this world. They've literally built an industry out of all this.

Two fictional works look at what's going on: Simon Edge in the End of the World is flat has a right wing billionaire at centre.
Ben Elton, in Identity Crisis, has the Russians as the cause.

Kathleen Stock is good on the emergence of the queer theory sex is meaningless nonsense.

Good list! I too think that the reason is actually a combination of forces that have come together at just the right time to give this ideology a massive push.

sosolongago · 01/11/2022 15:04

I don't know where it is coming from but if you take the 'affirmation' approach to children declaring they are transgender and then medicalise them immediately (as Stonewall, TRAs, WPATH are advocating from what I can see), the logical conclusion is that lots of children will become sterile and will not be able to procreate as adults. Who wants this? Who benefits from this?
It smacks of eugenics given the high proportion of autistic/ADHD children coming forward. It is all very Hitlerian/Dr Mengele but done on the pretext of 'diversity and inclusion'.
Children across the world need protection from these unsavoury adults and greedy drugs companies/medics NOW.

BlessedKali · 01/11/2022 21:41

Social media is THE tool being used. It doesn't just play 'a' part but it plays the entire part.

There is a fantastic documentary on Cambridge Analytica (called The Great Hack), a company who became excellent in using social media and algorithms to implant ideas in people's heads. The were able to charge HUGE money for their services, because they were so effective at what they did - manipulating society to believe something (Trump enployed them for his election campaign). As the documentary explains, in order for them to be able to charge vast sums they needed evidence that they were effective, and so they manipulated certain small countries andcreated civil unrest and then used the results as evidence for the service they could provide.

They have proved it is possible to make alot of money from swaying the publics beliefs.

So rather than blaming the internet, the question might be, who is using the internet to spread an ideology, and why?

And so I refer to my two previous suggestions: pharma & high profile transhumanists ( i dont want to use any other possibly more inflammatory words here in case i get deleted)

They have since closed down due to being unethical.... But where there is large money to be made, someone will step up ad take it. Im sure another company offers these services, or CA have got more stealthy.

Im sure transgender ideology is just the start of many new and increasingly bizarre social manipulations.

Think how effective nazism was, with so much less of a powerful medium by which to spread the propaganda. Now it can beam into people's heads, for hours upon hours a day.

These are just my personal opinions.

Crouton19 · 01/11/2022 21:43

My theory (in addition to the many excellent examples already given): The lack of affordable housing means many people aren’t on the housing ladder until 30s/40s so not part of geographical communities so much as online ones, and the birth rate is falling so they are not settling down and having their own families so much either. Eternal adolescence! Cancel culture and virtue signalling then become ways of having some sort of control/dominance on those perceived as being privileged in comparison.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 01/11/2022 21:50

It’s cultural revolution. Getting a whole bunch of kids to hate their “Karen” mothers so they can be castrated, mutilated, their boundaries eroded, women’s right taken away and with the added bonus that the youth are devoid of critical thought so that they blindly follow the lies of Sturgeon and her ilk while all of our public services are destroyed.

Thelnebriati · 01/11/2022 22:23

Its social collapse dressed up as cultural revolution.

livvyposts · 01/11/2022 22:24

The endgame is an end to transphobia, free and prompt access to healthcare when needed, an end to discrimination against trans people in housing, employment and other areas along with the ability of trans people to have fulfilling lives free of harassment and able to fully participate in society. That and of course the overthrow of patriarchy and capitalism and with it the abolishment of gender as a hierarchical systam.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 01/11/2022 22:43

Yes, really imperative to get young girls to have mastectomies, that will overthrow the patriarchy! Go for it….

Bodily autonomy is an important part of challenging patriarchy.
