Nicola Sturgeon is now going to force members to vote in favour of gender recognition reform.

I feel like she does not understand that this is such a wedge issue that this might cripple the SNP for decades to come.

'we need new laws, new processes' ... 'I am determined that appropriate gender recognition for under 16s and for non-binary people will be part of our shared future'

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:20

She is an extremist. But the SNP are supporting this.

Smilelesstalkmore · 27/10/2022 16:22

Not a single actual meaningful argument there from Maggie Chapman, just misty eyed guff about people 'being who they truly are'.

I also flicked back to earlier on, and literally happened to stop on someone saying 'most marginalised in society'! I wonder how many times that has already come up this afternoon.

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:25

Yes. Entirely sentimental, fact free speech. Latest speaker noting some of the massive gaps in detail and practical application.

John Mason not supporting. Good on him.

FFS john Mason. Yep real feminist board this. What a joke.

Smilelesstalkmore · 27/10/2022 16:27

Not sure who is speaking now, but she is calling for the government to wait for the full findings of the Cass review.

beachcitygirl · 27/10/2022 16:28

@AlwaysTawnyOwl so why do you think she stood on a manifesto backing gra reform TWICE? Is she stupid? Or a liar? Or did she just act in a self-serving power crazy manner.?

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:29

Who was the woman in the aqua jacket? Somebody White? Does anyone know?

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:30

Ah, Tess White. North East Scotland. She was excellent.

Runningslow · 27/10/2022 16:36

I imagine it’s because she wants independence and for some reason the two causes have been linked politically ( assuming you don’t want Alex salmons)

Fandangoes · 27/10/2022 16:37

Listening to this online - it beggars belief! Its so hard to listen to. How can they prioritise trans people feeling embarrassed and humiliated having to wait for some documentation to the violent threat to women if predatory men are handed this loophole!

Runningslow · 27/10/2022 16:37

That was to Beachcitygirl

ghostofadog · 27/10/2022 16:40

Just having listened to Michael Marra, is this a glimmer of hope for Scottish Labour or is it just his view? I didn't agree with everything he said but at least he was engaging properly with the issues. I got a detailed email response from him which was pretty sensible.

“This bill does not do all we want it to” when Maggie Chapman said that it sent shivers down my spine

this does make me wonder what the end goal of this bill is now?

Another thing many of the dewy eyed sentimentalists are apparently too gullible to clock: this is not the end point, it's only the beginning.

Once this is in law to build on you just wait.

Here comes self id of age. Watch it gallop over the horizon, nappies in hand.

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:41

Emma Roddick nearly greeting with her own kindness.

Yes, he was thoughtful.

Skyellaskerry · 27/10/2022 16:43

It is appalling that only the conservatives seem to have allowed a non whipped vote.

Rearleft · 27/10/2022 16:44

Well done Ash Regan.

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:45

EA issues now being addressed. Public Boards Act, etc

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:47

Labour will seek to amend at Stage 2 and have the primacy of the EA asserted.

That's heartening.

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:47

Cass Review: it's findings should inform Scotland/Sandyford

To be published end of 2023

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 16:49

That was Ms Baillie. Pam Gosal up now.

It's a stepping stone on the way to the complete erasure of women as a sex class.
