I've just seen this on twitter.

Seeing as though mumsnet are their target market, this is very foolish of them.

Please don't call feminist women "gender criticals". It's dehumanising. Gender critical feminists, gender critical activists, women's rights activists.

PriamFarrl · 23/10/2022 17:52

Let’s look at it this way.

If a town was hosting a National Front convention and people asked shops to fly a Black Lives Matter flag then we would know that they were asking the shop to do this because they wanted the people going to the NF meeting and know where the shop and wider community stands.
The thing with this though is that is easy to see that the NF are the bag guys.

By flying the trans flag in the town where there is a feminism convention going on you are saying that the feminists are the bad guys.

MargaritaPie · 23/10/2022 17:48

Some gender-criticals talk about being "cancelled" a lot, yet also seem to have no problem with bullying others who have a different viewpoint than they do.

’gender-criticals’? Not gender critical people?

WinterTrees · 23/10/2022 17:56

Who mentioned being cancelled on this thread? Women gathering for a feminist conference are righty complaining about being trolled by retailers, who have no business getting involved in this kind of political messaging.

Or should that be - retailers who will soon have no business if they get involved in this kind of political messaging?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/10/2022 17:58

A lot of trans rights activists don't seem to know very much about FiLiA.

They know it’s women talking and that seems to be enough.

Filia's been amazing today. I didn't attend a single talk on transgenderism. We did cover religious fundamentalism, surrogacy and motherhood though, amongst other topics. So why they're displaying the trans flag, I've no idea. Unless we aren't allowed to talk about anything that affects women anymore Hmm.

So much this.
Nothing to do with transgenderism.

Yet Cardiff welcomed the largest feminist conference in Europe with LOTS of 🏳️‍⚧️

Even the Air Ambulance Charity shop bizarrely had one. There was lots of stickers around saying " Terfs, read a book" which amused, and one bizarre sticker with a blue and pink tram, and some nonsense about trams rights. Do they identify as trams now?

Joules took the flag down by 8pm last night, and I think Fred Perry did too. It was helpful to know which pubs didn't want our trade, there's lots to choose from so it wasn't an issue.

Good to see TRAs finally learned harassing women outside these venues makes them look especially mental. It was much less stressful without the shrieks etc.

The conference was about women's rights all round the world. Nothing to do with trans people and the placement of the flags was cynical. We live rent free in their minds.

Hi andpeggy, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for supporting LGBT and trans rights.

Please don't allow yourself to be bullied by haters into taking the flag down.

When you say "LGBT and trans rights", did you realise that T stands for trans?

It means you've included trans twice. Are you trying to indicate that you think that the people who come under the T umbrella deserve twice as much support as people under the LGB umbrella, or is it a typo?

MargaritaPie · 23/10/2022 18:19

"Women gathering for a feminist conference are righty complaining about being trolled by retailers, who have no business getting involved in this kind of political messaging."

Are you referring to the recent LGBA meeting? It seems to be equally split amongst men and women, there are photos circulating on Social Media such as this one.

And how can you possibly accuse retailers of accusing gender critical people/LGB-Alliance members of "being trolled" just by putting up an LGBT/trans flag?

I'd much rather live in 2022 where gay and trans people can have rights and marry etc and see flags supporting LGBT people having rights compared to how life was for LGBT people in the not-too-distant past.

But this is it isn’t it. With TRAs everything is about them. The idea that women can be talking and they don’t feature is beyond them.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 23/10/2022 18:29

Pie, either you haven't read the thread and genuinely don't know we're talking about FiLiA, being held in Cardiff, or you are pretending not to know.

Which is it? I honestly can't guess after the times you've posted newspaper links that said the opposite of what you said they did.

Just coming on to point that out - oh dear, oh dear @MargaritaPie are you really that gullible to believe that was an actual photo of the recent LGBA conference?

LK1972 · 22/10/2022 13:30

Excellent idea, all the shops that are prepared to throw women under the bus should display THE FLAG, makes them easy to avoid.

Fantastic idea.

Would safe me lots of googling

It makes you wonder what other things she's gullible about doesn't it 🤔

Even by that posters standards it is quite something to post that photo that has already been comprehensively debunked.

I think the content of the speeches may be going up on their website soon. It really was a very moving and thought provoking day.

I missed Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who spoke in the auditorium yesterday afternoon, so I hope that goes up.

Numbers wise, they said over 1,700 over the conference. It was overwhelmingly feminist women but I think men were allowed for certain sessions too.

Can you please stop dehumanising people who disagree with you.

’gender criticals’ ? Imagine if we on this board used ‘the transes’ or ‘transes’.

It is basic respect. It is always interesting to see who cannot extend it to others.

That was the LGB alliance conference in London. We are talking about the Filia conference in Cardiff.

KatMcBundleFace · 23/10/2022 18:44

Yesterday afternoon we listened to a group of seven women from around the world discuss migration and motherhood.

The auditorium was full of women, and yet people are sharing photos of a Leave Means Leave rally in Bolton in 2018 and saying it was FiLia 2022. Bonkers.

Putting a trans flag in a shop window in support of trans rights isn't trolling for goodness sake.
Not everything is always about you.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 23/10/2022 18:48

MargaritaPie · 23/10/2022 18:40

ok how about this one?

Is that supposed to be a genuine picture of the LGB Alliance conference?

Because if so, still the wrong conference, petal

Wrong conference, wrong city, wrong country.

London, England versus Cardiff, Wales.

KatMcBundleFace · 23/10/2022 18:49

What about the TERF stickers? Where they just there all around the hall as a total coincidence?

The playing innocent here is ridiculous, we all know what was going on.

You lot should have gone to the conference. It was moving and important. Solidarity with my sisters all round the world.
